Custodians
Keepers of Super Secret Knowledge! Aside from what the Autumn Court hoards for itself, these are the people in the Freehold who manage and maintain and collect esoteric information, and maintain/chronicle the histories of the Freehold.
Need to know who Ragnar the Red defeated in the Battle of Biscuit Pass?
Check with a Custodian.
They aren't gossip-mongers. They want the meat, and the occult. If a True Fae visits the area, they want to know why, and how, and who, so they can plot out correlations later and prepare. These are the people who will tease and pry out every detail you can bear to retell to them, for the protection of the Freehold
Members of the Harvestmen and Greenies often consult with the Custodians, though while there are commonly Greenie Custodians and Waykeeper Custodians, there are seldom Harvestman Custodians, as the two groups tend to select different .
The Library wiki page contains records, player- and staff-created, of events and people able to be located in the Freehold Library. Please follow the instructions on the page for creating sub-pages and linking them correctly.
It is the Custodians' duty to keep this updated with events/to go out and snag people to ask questions about things going on IC. :D
History
In another case of growth by accretion, in the beginning, there was simply the Librarian. What with the Freehold being focused on knowledge, however, and the acquisition thereof, the Librarian accepted help when it was offered by his peers, and when said peers proved useful to the Freehold, and were rewarded for their efforts with the respect of those in charge... well. Being one of the cool nerds got much more appealing.
To date, while certain scraps of information have been gathered, it is very much still a case of catch as catch can, and the group as a whole is very eager to learn more about the surrounding area.
Requirements to Join
At least Occult 1 and preferably Academics 2, though greater knowledge in the occult will compensate for lack of worldly education.
Rank Structure
Custodian-Elect
- Qty: 1
- Duties: The Custodian-Elect is responsible for the leadership and coordination of all other Custodians, and holds a seat upon the Freehold Council. He or she is responsible for hosting monthly meetings, and for disseminating and managing new information, policies, promotions and disciplinary action.
- More or less, you handle the politics and administration so others don't have to, and direct your fellow nerds toward goals the Freehold needs them chasing.
- OOCly, they are given Head powers over the Custodians +faction.
- Custodian Influence Level: 5
Librarian
- Qty: 1
- Duties: The Librarian is the keeper of the Library. Want permission to wander the stacks? Ask the Librarian. Need to research something for a project? The Librarian can help. Those who hold this position have responsibility for riskier secrets and are given access to restricted areas the regular rank and file cannot enter without permission.
- Custodian Influence Level: 4
Assistant Librarian
- Qty: 1
- Duties: Help the Librarian, learn about the Library and the tending thereof, and if the Librarian isn't around, wear the big hat and quietly shhhhh people. If the Librarian retires, the Assistant Librarian steps up and picks a new Assistant.
- Custodian Influence Level: 4
Custodian
- Qty: Unlimited
- Duties: You and the ranks above you are the occultists and, frankly, the educated book equivalent of computer nerds. You are the people other players seek out when they want to know if a particular Keeper is allergic to Ogre toenail fungus, or if a member really did betray the Freehold. You may not have access to the most dangerous information (read: politically sensitive), but your skills mean you have a better chance of researching information in the library than most. You actively try to gain more knowledge for the Freehold, and in some cases, this can mean accompanying Harvestmen out into the Hedge to get it.
- It is common, and desired, for individual Custodians to have specialties, to allow for deeper research pursuits than flitting from book to book like shallow-sipping butterflies.
- All members of the Custodians this rank and higher gain a +1 bonus when researching in the Freehold Library.
- Custodian Influence Level: Mentors: 3, Others: 2
Recruit
- Qty: Unlimited
- Duties: Recruits are responsible for helping higher ranked Custodians, and are often sent out on retrieval 'missions' to acquire specific information about targets higher-ups need further research on. Once a recruit has proven his or her willingness to work both for and with the group, and to share information gathered, s/he is eligible for promotion. The higher-ups will take member advice into consideration when monthly evaluation occurs.
- Loners who try to join just for access to the Library will be weeded out quite quickly.
- Custodian Influence Level: 1
