“People sell their soul in such small quantities - a seemingly trivial compromise here, a rationalization of a minor evil there - that they don't realize what they're doing until it is too late.”
– Mike Klepper
Overview
Rozalia Ramiel Cobalescu was born in Romania on Halloween in 1984. She was abandoned in Hunedoara forest about two months after her birth. Or that's what they guessed. She was taken to a local convent and was put up for adoption. Though her first family brought her back almost immediately...due to weirdness that started happening after she was brought into the home. The Mother Superior did not put her back up for adoption. Deciding to raise the child within the convent. She gave Rozalia her name as well. Sometimes people give kids names that they either live up to or that they are horrible at. In Rozalia's case, she ended up living up to the name. In many weird ways. Growing up in Romania and growing up in a Convent meant that Rozalia had access to a lot of literature. Mundane and Occult oriented. She grew up being taught about demons, ghosts and angels. Apparently old nuns on the edge of a forest dealt with things unseen. A lot. When Rozalia was 16 she was taken by a local gentry that was named The Curator. One that created and collected Changelings that were based off Mythical creatures and legends. But the Curator was not going to be using Roz for one of his mythical creatures, he took her more for entertainment for himself and a select few of the other creations.
Roz was not an entertainer, but she was broken over and over again and built into a dancer. It's why she's inhumanely dexterous. And she hated being turned into what she was. She never wanted to be an entertainer. She wanted to be an academic. But, Arcadia and Keepers don't care what you want really. So she was a dancer for them. And when she tried to run she was put in a glass box, much like a music box ballerina. She stayed that way for almost thirty years in Arcadia. When the Curator found a new entertainer, Roz was tossed into one of the branches of the Curators compound that dealt with Ghosts. Being away from the light and adapting to talking to the specter's of people that didn't make it to being full Changelings turned her into a bit of a hybrid while she was there. She became a pretty bitter thing. Then she soon became crazy, hallucinating that one of the ghosts was telling her that she needed to escape. That this wasn't her home.
Finally, she snapped. Remembering her life before the darkness. She broke one of the mirrors in her room, arming herself with one of the huge shards, she didn't know she herself was bleeding and she set off with a purpose. To get the hell out of her prison. She had memorized the change of the guards. The one that came on fresh for their shift was not expecting the timid ballerina to attack him.
Roz stabbed him in the neck and in the face. Mortally wounding him. She took off covered in the blood of the guard. It didn't take long for one of the other captives to see the trail of blood that she left and followed her. When you try to stop a crazy person, you generally don't get a good response. Roz stabbed the other woman several times and then made her escape out of the main compound. She was almost at the thorns when she was tackled from behind and fell onto the shard of mirror that she had murdered one, maybe two people with, but they were not people anymore. They were crazy things. She was bloody in the end and had multiple wounds, including one that opened up her collarbone. With one final thrust, the last guard that blocked her freedom was dead and she was sure she was going to die. When she tore herself through the thorns she wished for it once or twice. When she came out and took her first breath in freedom she almost fainted. But given she came out in the middle of a park at night that didn't happen. She was barefoot, bleeding everywhere and a police officer took notice. She didn't remember much of anything. She remembered being taken. The Romanian police found out that she was a missing person and they were shocked that she'd turned back up. It had been five years. She was 20 now, but she spent so much time in Arcadia. The doctors performed surgery to close her wounds and to reset her broken ankle.
It took her six months to acclimate to the real world. She was put on tons of medicines, mainly for anxiety. She was pretty messed up. Given she had no family to speak of, she made plans to move to America. Which might have been the worst decision in her life. She arrived in New York a year after she was out of the Hedge. She fell in with the wrong crowd and ended up starting to sleep with men for money. She was ashamed of it, but it was a quick buck. The shame and guilt that she felt eventually lead her to the Sun court, where she was for the year she was in New York. From New York she moved to Montpelier Vermont and her life took a turn for the better. There was no more prostituting herself and she started to teach dance locally. From there she realized that not dancing or dealing with it was futile and she quickly fell in with a few of the Dusks that she met. She started to die her hair a rich green color and she started with the tattoos. She hated the white hair and her sickly pale skin, but she couldn't change what Arcadia did. So she did little things to try. Her dance classes took off, which was a good surprise. But getting her business off the ground meant she was dealing with work and teaching more. Which displeased most of the men that she dated. In the end, Roz told herself that she couldn't date a non Changeling. She couldn't deal with the lying and the secrecy. So it's been a lonely time for the Dusk. Which is not surprising.
Roz moved to Fort Brusnett in 2007 and opened up her own dance studio. While she teaches a long list of things, she is a choreographer by profession and has done routines for a few famous people. She's not known to name drop though, even if they might. Fort Brusnett was where she started to delve into the Occult again. It was her true passion. She also started making contact with the other Supernaturals of the area. Mainly the few Werewolves that were around and the Bloodsuckers. But they are good people when they aren't trying to use you for a Juice Box or a Chew Toy.. This lead her to the Lord Sages of the Unknown Reaches. She had the contacts and fit in well with the woman who mentored her. Roz does worry about being retaken, like all Changelings do. Sometimes she does have the Dusk outlook on it. But she's doing her best to not be taken. She doesn't have any real enemies, maybe if that one Changeling she stabbed lived she might have been pissed, but otherwise she tends to keep clear of the drama. But can deal with it if needed.
