Harvestmen

The Harvestmen tend to attract the adventurers, the bold, the warriors and would-bes. They are the swords and bows, the semiautomatics, the knives in dark alleys, but they are also the maps, the Marco Polos and the Indiana Joneses.

As the Freehold is scarcely a year old (at the time of game opening!), there isn't yet a specific Hall or Hollow built or claimed, the group practicing in the main cavern of Stoneheart for the time being.

Harvestmen are often members of other Freehold subgroups. This is a position which entails a fair amount of physical risk and lack of anonymity in the Hedge.

History

When coming to a new area, with new dangers and an unfamiliar Hedge, it is reasonable to assume that a modicum of physical defense will happen, and it did.

Thus, the Harvestmen were born.

While to date there have not been any insurmountable difficulties, their task is not an easy one, and there have been signs, subtle and not, that the True Fae have noticed the valley's new occupation...and are pleased.

Requirements to Join

One of the easiest groups to join, the only requirement is the desire to protect the Freehold and the willingness to spend a fair amount of time training combat skills to achieve that. Even the explorers are expected to be competent enough to handle themselves until greater combatants can arrive, or they can make a break for it.

Rank Structure

Many members have come from martial backgrounds, and the basic structure of the Harvestmen reflects their influence.

Captain

Qty: 1
Duties: Commander of the militia. Point of Contact for Crown & Council. Organize and maintain the ranks. Share information with Lieutenants, who will share with lower ranks. All intelligence collected is given to you, to share with other groups. You control the rank structures below you, and it is up to your judgement to appoint a new Lieutenant if existing Lieutenants retire. Should a Captain retire or perish, the Captain's Second is automatically promoted to Captain.
OOCly, they are given Head powers over the Harvestmen +faction.
Harvestmen Influence Level: 5

Lieutenant

Qty: 2-4
Duties: One Lieutenant is appointed by the Captain as the Captain's Second, and where the Captain is unavailable, is deputized to perform as Acting Captain. All Lieutenants report to the Captain. Command and train with the members of the squad you lead. You are the POC for your squad, and you relay the Captain's orders. You are empowered to promote Recruits to Privates. Typically, while all Harvestmen train to fight and gather information/maps, one of the Lieutenants leads a group composed of exploration specialists, more independent than the regular rank and file.
Harvestmen Influence Level: Second: 4, Other(s): 3

Private

Qty: 4-8 per Lieutenant
Duties: You are the rank and file, or specialists among them. You defend the Freehold and patrol the territory it claims for itself, following the orders of your Lieutenant. In the absence of your own Lieutenant, report directly to the Second. In the absence of the Second, report to the Captain. In the absence of both Second and Captain... you're in trouble! Find another Lieutenant or do the best you can.
Harvestmen Influence Level: 2

Recruit

Qty: Unlimited
Duties: Train! Learn! Obey every rank above yours, which is everybody. You perform the same duties as Privates, train with Privates, and are eventually promoted to BE Privates. Typically, a new recruit is trained and evaluated for one Season, then considered for promotion. If they have been a good team player and have made noticeable progress, they will be promoted. As promotions are at the discretion of officers, they may occur at any time. Promotions must be announced to the group as a whole, and, additionally, a list of newly promoted members and their new roles must be announced at the next Freehold meeting.
Harvestmen Influence Level: 1
