Heard a nasty rumor you wanted to have a chat?

Byron Whelan, Beau Desrochers, and Jonah Joseph

7 March, 2017

The officers of the Harvestmen have an impromptu meeting. Planning was had. Part of Real Estate.

Location

Stoneheart

Today just so happens to be one of those days where the roof is a damnable thing for the Broken Hearth. Where the crystals have forced their way inside, rain seeps through as if the Hedge's perverted variant of Mother Nature'll be damned if she doesn't take back what's hers. A giant of a behorned man stands at one of the tables, several makeshift maps laid out before him. Jonah's not dressed in much beyond jeans, a hooded jacket, and for whatever odd reason is sans shoes. The lieutenants got word of an improntu meeting just to go over things, although the Captain isn't usually known for such planning.

Byron ducks his head a little on his way in, glancing up at the water that makes its way in regardless, before scanning the room and focusing on the horny one. With a flick of tiny wings in a futile guesture to throw some of the water off of his shoulders, the stone figure in sweats makes his way across to the table covered in maps. Clearing his throat as he gets within arm's reach, he offers, "Heard a nasty rumor you wanted to have a chat?"

Beau is only a few moments behind Byron, dressed in his usual jeans, tee and leather jacket. He's even settled on combat boots for some reason. He steps up to the table, offering a polite nod to both Byron and Jonah. "I heard the same rumor." He crosses his arms over his chest and leans his hip against the table, angling his gaze to get a look at the maps spread out before the commander.

"Rumors aren't lies, at least," Jonah responds when looking away from the maps. Each of the men is giving a quick nod in greeting. "Evening, Lieutenants. It's about the meeting I have set up for Saturday, and this." He then lifts his arms up, gaze flitting to the eyes. "And this place. We need something of our own, and as good as the Freehold is for letting us use it, it's not enough. Nowhere near it, and can't get even a decent bit of training without a goddamned audience have the time."

Byron mms softly, glancing over to nod his head in greeting to Beau, then sidestepping to make more room for the other Lost. He folds his arms over his chest as he listens, watching the maps that Jonah's looking at. His attention shifts to Beau, then to Jonah, while he listens, waiting for a moment after the Captain finishes to nod and offer, "So we either find something better and clear it out, or work out a way to create one. I take it you have ideas?"

Beau tilts his head to the side, still running his eyes over the map, rubbing his chin as he considers. "Well, it would be nice to have a place to set up some real training equipment. A few sparring rings, some decent exercise equipment." He doesn't touch the maps but traces some of the lines on the one closest to him. "I mean, we can only go so much around a firepit." He jerks his thumb towards it.

Jonah first points at Byron, and then nods to Beau. "That's the long and the short of it. The hedge is always a weird place, and I'd imagine you know it best, Byron. Which is why I'd like you and yours to explore when you're all able to get together, and take any others that an LT can give you if they're free for it. With Beau, you and yours can try clearing out areas that might be suitable, hobs and any ongoing treaties notwithstanding, of course. It also sounds like you'd be perfect for helping outfitting the place the moment we get it set up."

Byron nods slowly at the instruction, "We get lucky, we find something we just need to clear out and reinforce a door on. Its the clearing out that can make it, ah, interesting. Good homes in the Hedge are hard to find. It'll be a good test." With that said, he falls quiet again and nods slowly at Beau and Jonah's assessment of the situation, "Looking forward to it. We have anyone showing interest in signing up lately? A few more faces that aren't completely brand new wouldn't be frowned on."

Beau nods at the instructions. "I think I can get my group together to do that much. Be good team building." He turns his gaze towards Byron, pressing his lips together in thought, nodding his head at the other man's assesment. "But we might need to get some of the craftier members of the freehold to help us build things." He sighs and rubs the back of his neck, a sure fire hint that he's starting to make plans in his head and organize his thoughts. "Already looking to boost recruitment?" He smirks slightly.

"We got enough for now, technically, but we always want more. People willing to sign on, do their part, and train up to guarantee they can go out in the field and live." An affirmative nod follows that, and Jonah's gaze flits to Byron. "I can't say I know any that've wanted to join just yet, but I bring it up whenever I can. Whether it's approriate or not. Speaking of building, it might help to actually find or see if we can get a solid quartermaster. If we can get things consistantly built, need someone to manage, and you don't want it to be me."

Byron smiles a little at Beau, "New faces are always promising. The more we can get competently trained, well, the better the 'hold is." he trails off to listen, pursing dark lips in consideration for a moment or two, "I'll keep my ears open. If things work well, we will definitely be able to keep a crafter very, very busy, and yes, I imagine it would be helpful if we didn't have you wearing 30 hats, yes? I'll talk to the Privates and make sure we are not making very basic mistakes the moment people step across a gate."

"I've got enough problems keeping the stock at the pub straight, you don't want me trying to keep our stores in check, too." Beau taps his foot against the ground. "We could always just put a general call out, see if any of the privates have it in them to do so. Or even a couple of them. Or maybe one of the new faces has some experience." He pauses his thoughts for a moment, looking up at the leaky ceiling. "We might want a crash pad, too. A not leaky one."

"We should see which of the privates can do it, but I can't put a complete tack into who'd be right for it." Jonah looks down at the maps briefly, then between Beau and Byron. "If either of you have any suggestions or know of one, send 'em up asap. The more we can have things squared away, the faster we can make sure when we leave it isn't some hot mess somebody else has to clean up after us." Then he looks up above, and simply nods. "Yes. Leaking is very, very bad."

Byron taps his nose and guestures at Beau in agreement, and continues listening. At the question, he offers, "Don't know of a good one yet, but we'll be looking. I'd like to find someone that can make better axes than I have, anyway. There's supposed to be a meet and greet for the rest of the Freehold later. Maybe there will be someone with promise there, as well."

"Dave just rolled back into town, if I remember he's into carpentry." Beau is still squinting up at the ceiling. "I don't know if he could make weapons, but he could certainly help with buildings." He blinks a few times as some water drips into his eyes. "He's one of my cousins." There's a small rise and fall of his heavy shoulders. "Might not be bad to see if he's looking for some work. I told him he should come to the meet and greet anyway."

"Axes, huh? I'll try to remember that. Our lot need to be as well equipped as we can be. Considering all the danger you all and your privates deal with there's no reason not to. I'll try to remember Dave, too. See we can even recruit." Jonah rubs at the base of his horns, thinking for a few beats. "Same for using that meet and greet to look for any potential recruits that can take a bit of training"

Byron bobs his head slowly, slowly folding his arms back across his chest, "Other than that, it's been a bit quiet since Crowning. Anything else special you want to try to look into before the weekend...festivities? Sounds like we have our hands full, more or less." One dark stone brow is raised in curiosity, a glance shifted between both of the other men to spread the question's target.

"Nothing on my end." Beau shrugs. He pushes off the table, standing up straight, arms still across his chest. His usually imposing stature well diminished by the other two men in the room. "If you want to make some announcement at the shindig though, talk to Dobson, he's one of the two organizing it, and well, I'm sure he'll take suggestions from you." One corner of his mouth quirks upwards ever so slightly.

"Dobson? I know I've heard that name-" Jonah's voice trails off until an invisible light bulb goes off, and its followed by a fleeting smile. "He's a Private if I'm not mistaken. I won't try to overshadow anything, but I'll try to talk to him asap. He might be able to help with things, and probably help with recruiting a few folks, too."

Byron shoots a curious look at Beau when the name is recognized, and simply nods in recognition, "We'll see who else shows up. I met someone good with trapping a few days ago, but didn't get to talk to them for long. I'll see how good of a fit they might be for regular exploration and if so, make sure they come to the meet and talk to you."

Beau nods his head a few times. "Sounds good to me. I'll probably be too busy during the meet and greet to do anything other than work." He spreads his hands a little bit before crossing the arms back over his chest. "But I'll kick up any more names up towards you if I hear any."

Jonah rubs at the side of his face, and then starts scratching at his chin. "I think that about covers it, then. We'll see how things go with that party, and then talk around the Freehold to see who might be interested and tough enough to go through a season of training. Any other news you come accross out in the hedge is welcome too, but I think that might be it."

Byron mmms at the commentary, tilting his head when a little wing flicks away a bit of accumulated water that's been landing on his shoulder, murmuring, "Gonna bring a tarp in here next time." He does, however, bow his head at Jonah and offers, "Will do. Will see you both at the meetup if I dont end up hunting you down before then, but sounds good, Captain." He even smiles faintly as he takes a half step away from the table, clearly preparing to head back out.

Beau inclines his head slightly towards Jonah, giving a little tap at the base of one of his horns in a sort of weird salute. "Same here. Or at least wear a damn hat. But if there's nothing more, I'm going to get back to earning money to pay my rent." He takes his own half step back, waiting for Jonah to formally dismiss him.
