The Greengarden - OT01 | |
Through the back of the Greengarden Greenhouse is the storage of all manner of seedlings and young plants. However, behind all of that is a quiet area with chairs and picnic tables that sort of resembles a break room, despite being surrounded by plants and various plant growing accessories. It's there in that informal setting that one finds Ian, perched on top of one of the picnic tables with a glass of lemonade in one hand. There's a cooler or two with cold beverages and some snacks. It's not a formal to-do and those who come to gather are encouraged to plop down wherever they like. Folks have been meandering in and once everyone seems to be assembled and to have found a seat, Ian opens up the meeting. "So, since our last meeting, you poor misguided folk elected me to kind of keep things in order around here.. or something vaguely like that. So, thanks for that. And thanks for coming out. There's a couple of matters of business that I'm going to bring up and then we'll open up the floor." Billy Ray brought a case of beer - Bud, of course, and put it down with a baker's dozen of bakery cookies. He grabs a beer and moves to take a seat, flopping into a seat to sip at his beer and munch at a cookie and listen - jeans, worn shoes, flannel shirt, wifebeater, trucker's cap. Isolde arrives on time. A cup of coffee in her hands and her hair let down. She’s still dressed in her work clothing, so it’s easy to guess that the Doctor has another shift to go at the hospital tonight. She gives a smile to those that she knows as she walks in. She then finds a seat and settles down, paying attention to Ian as he speaks and she gives a soft clap, “Congratulations, Ian.” she tells him with a smile. "Hello lovelies." Eden says in greeting as she makes her way into the room as well, a little smile crossing her lips as she glances across the greenhouse before settling her attention on Ian. "Oh yees, Congratulations." She echoes Isolde's compliment. Jon was almost late. He was wearing the same scrubs he'd been wearing for the last 15 hours and looked more than a bit worn. He looked to Ian and said, "Oh? No fuckin way, right on, man. Grats and my condolences." If he could be more stoic and deadpan it'd take actual, physical effort. Effectiveness:4, bedside manner: 0. "Firstly, some of us have been working on the Freehold Garden to try and restore it from the sad and sorry wilted state that it is in currently. It's going to take a lot more work so for those who might be inclined to help but aren't really as familiar with gardening -- let me know. Sophia and I can help with assigning projects that need assistance, and we're always glad of any additional help. If you're interested, let one of us know after the meeting." Ian takes a breath then and continues. "Secondly, Isolde has begun to offer some healing classes for those who are in need of training, particularly in those areas and need to complete those requirements in order to become full members. Please do attend. I, likewise am available to work with those who are interested in developing gardening skills. If there are those within the group who want to volunteer as mentors or host additional events such as those that might involve hedgefruit identification and scavenging, that would be beneficial." He then says, "And the third, is that we're going to begin the search for a garden space within the Hedge specifically for the Greenies. What we do for the Freehold is primarily for the benefit of the Freehold and focused toward healing and aid. This garden will allow us not only to continue those pursuits but to work on our own projects as well. Anyone interested in venturing out with me to go looking, again, let me know after the meeting." He smiles to those who offer congratulations and dips his flower enwreathed head a bit in silent thanks. "So.. that all said.. if anyone has any business they'd like to bring up.. feel free to shout on out." He gestures with green-tipped fingers toward those gathered. Billy Ray lifts his hand, "Er, ah. Sorry," he says as he rises. Billy Ray Johnson, y'all. Paramedic, flight medic certified, trauma. Ain't got no skill wit' gardenin', fraid to say. But hand to hand - particularly Chinese Kung Fu, sure, guns. Science, makin' shit - particularly guns, armor, stuff like that, includin' Hedgespun an' Tokens, ah'm yer man. Some skill wit' a blade as well. Good wit' gettin' stuff done, got a library fer Hedgespinnin'. New fella, prospect. Wantin' to help y'all out. Spring, Knight o' the Honorable Order. If it involves tech or makin' shit, ah'm pretty damn good at it, not t'hear my mama boast or nuttin'. Mah licenses from Georgia still good fer medicine an' whatnot but ah'll hafta fix that at some point ah imagine right quick." He sits back down. Isolde gives a wave to those that are new and may not know her face when Ian mentions her medical classes, "Doctor Garreau, at your service." she tells them with a brilliant smile. Then she listens to what Ian has to say, nodding a bit at a few things. When he asks if there's any business, there's a bit of a smile, "I have some. I recieved a letter from one of our recruits by the name of Oberon?" she quirks an eyebrow at Ian. Then there's a look to Billy Ray when he speaks up and there's a smile and a nod of welcome, "It's good to have you, Mister Johnson." she tells her fellow Spring. Jon wasn't one to speak up. Getting him to talk about himself like ever? Was like pulling tusks. He was actually watching the doctor withthe flowers in her hair more curious than anything else, and still had his ID on. FInally he asked, "Dr. Garreau, you were at one of our lectures about CTE." Techno-Viking could talk. "Wish I could do what you do. That's some great work, and as a player, thanks." It was a surprisingly authentic statement as much as the snowskin was capable of. "I'm a med student doing my intern study at General. Orthopaedics and sports med. I, um, I pretty much kill plants on contact so I didn't bother to learn. Ian, I'm sorry if I ruined any on the easter hunt thingie. I'll work out paying you back." "Please, go ahead," Ian says to Isolde when she mentions having some business that she needs to bring up. Then he glances over to Jon and smiles a little wry smile. "Sometimes Winter's frost can be unkind to the plant-life; however, your skills in medicine far outweigh any frostbite visited on the grass during the Egg Hunt. I think you can conssider yourself forgiven, and we'll put your medical skills to work enough to more than make up for it." Billy Ray thinks for a second, snapping his fingers at Isolde, "Ah know ya, Doc Garreau. Y'did the contralateral interhemisphereic approach t' deep seated cavernous malformations - that paper in the Neurosurgery journal las' year, right? Good work, doc. Way past m'knowledge! Pleasure t'meet ya. An y'too, doc," to Jon with a wave. Isolde gives a bit of a blush when Jon brings her up and she gives a bit of a handwave, “It’s what I enjoy doing and it helps you guys out as well. So that’s reward enough in itself.” she tells him. Then Billy Ray gets a smile, “Thank you. It’s nice to know people know my work.” she admits. Then she pulls out a letter and stands, “Oberon sent me this letter. To be honest...I’m not sure what has happened, but maybe you guys do.” she states as she unfolds it. Then Isolde starts to read, “Oberon writes: Dear Isolde, This is Oberon, the infamous. Since all the happenings, I had more time to devote to the Greenies and I came up with an idea that would benefit all of us and could be of some use to me to regain people's trust. Or not. But this is it. I was thinking on gathering some investors to come up with a business to me. It'd be a flower shop since it's what comes most naturally to me. Plus, we could use it as a facade to an underground clinic to the Lost so those Greenies that have healing skills and magic could come to help those in need without calling too much attention from the mortals and to have a proper place to do surgeries and the like. It'd be a well equipped room maintained by donations and linked to the Greenies. I volunteer to help in the clinic since I do need to learn a few things about medicine to achieve the full membership in the Greenies. That is it. I hope you could bring this idea to the others in the meeting today. I'll be not there. I think it's still too early to appear in public meetings and some people can be unpleasant to me and create some distraction to the meeting. With my most sincere regards, Oberon "Oberon is currently under a directive not to speak until the end of the Season by Queen Pook, during which time he is to occupy himself with listening to others and we are to help him to learn those things which we can teach him. His tongue and its lack of control in public, among other things, has earned him his current disposition," Ian says with a small spreading of his hands. "As per the Queen's directive, he's been offered shelter within one of the cabins on the commune and I have had him working within the greenhouses to keep him busy and continue his teaching." He considers the letter then and says, "I'm not against the idea of a clinic space where we might tend to those who are in need of tending. Obviously we have this space and grounds which we can expand the purpose of, or we could consider a new property in addition. I'm interested as to everyone's thoughts on the matter." "It's a rather wonderful idea I think." Eden says as she listens to the letter being read out to the gathering, "I for one don't know of any places we can go that are quick and convenient to access should the need arise, that is, whether it's a flower shop, or whatever facade doesn't particularly matter, and I wouldn't know the first thing about setting something like that up.. but I like the thought." "Young fella is listenin', that much ah can say at least - saw 'em go back to Miss Hazel's place, knowin' she was six kindsa pissed at him, an' he took feedback on his behavior an' whatnot. Now ah don't know him that well, but this could be a good kinda thing t'help focus him ag'in an' whatnot. He's young, jes' needs direction an' a strong hand - the young fellas, fulla piss an' vinegar, jes' gotta point 'em at a target, in mah experience." says Billy Ray. Isolde settles back down once she’s done reading the letter and there’s a nod of understanding to Ian, “He’s young, he has time to make up for things.” she states. That’s a bit ominous from the woman who looks thirtyish? “But, I do like the idea and I would happily fund the endeavor and help set up the medical part of it as well.” she states. "And we all make mistakes when we're young, I agree with Mister Johnson, just needs a guiding hand I think." she agrees with the man. Jon tilted his head, "Ain't listening too well last I heard. Girlfriend's a Harvestman and she said they had another incident. I honestly don't see him learning shit but I wasn't there, don't honestly give a rat's ass, but I do think he's right. An off site clinic isn't a bad idea." Blunt. Emotionless flat words from one analytical frozen Ogre. "Guiding hand or boot in teh ass aside? We do need better medical care. When I had to patch Andromeda up I didn't like having to do it in Stonehearth's kitchen. Not ideal." Ian listens as each voices their opinion, golden-eyed gaze shifting from one to the other as they make their thoughts known on both topics. Finally, he inclines his head and says, "Then we'll begin this as a project. Isolde can help with the medical set up portion once we've located a site. In the meantime, I would task all of you to look around and see if there are any locations in town that might make a good place to put it. I can help as far as renting or purchasing the property goes, to some degree, once we've located an appropriate space." "Ah'm fixin' to buy a lot'a land t'start a new shop fer me - a location to load m' new Hollow to fer my Hedge workshop. Gonna be a gun range, archery, armor smith, sword smith, gun smith type work. Outside town, rural area - if y'all want, we could snap offa piece of that property t'use, ah don't mind." Billy Ray says. Isolde gives a nod to that as she listens, “Well, either way. A guiding hand or a foot in the ass can be arranged. We aren’t just pretty faces. The Bright One chuckles. “We’ll have fun with the project. It’s always nice to create new things.” she admits. Jon looked to Billy Ray and said drily, "That's not a bad idea. If someone misses we can patch em up right there." Ooooh the gallows humor of Frost trolls. He did offer though to Isolde, "I honestly will do more harm than good if I try to help withthe build out, but I can help you on clinical setup end. Lifting shit and whathaveyou." There was a shrug before any remaining expression frosted back to an inscrutible neutral. Ian nods to Billy Ray and says, "If you are already purchasing land and you don't mind something being built there for that purpose, then that might be best. Then we can customize the design of the space from the start. Then, once we find our garden, we can connect it to this space as well, and have a means of multiple points of access for both the garden and to the clinic." This plan seems to be taking shape rapidly, and Ian seems pleased with the idea. He then glances over at Jon and a little amused smile crosses his lips. "A practicality I hadn't at first thought of but..." He can't help but laugh just a little bit. He then nods and says, "Okay, then Billy Ray, if it is okay with you, we will take you up on the space. Jon and Isolde, work with Billy Ray to plan out what will be needed space-wise and equipment-wise. Then let's put together a rough estimate of what we're going to need, via donations or otherwise. Perhaps we can host an event of some sort to raise the funds we might need." "Ayuh, sure, sure. Ah don't mind one whit. Jes' lemme know who t'coordinate with an' whatnot, an' ah can put it amongst the footprint of th' other stuff." Billy Ray grins at Jon, "Hopefully, knock on wood, no such thing at th' new place, bubba!" A nod to Ian. "Gotcha, sir. Sure thing, ah'm glad t'help." He digs into his pocket, coming out with a pocket knife, multitool, another knife, pack of cigs, two lighters, wadded up bills, Copenhagen tin and then a 'Rite in the Rain' notebook and space pen. He scribbles down his name, email and phone a few times, tearing it off to offer it to Jon and Isolde each, and after a moment's pause, Eden as well. Isolde gives a smile to Ian and there’s a nod, “I’d love to help them with that.” she tells him. Then she pulls a sleep card case from her pocket and hands cards to Jon and Billy Ray, “My cell is on there, so just use that one. I generally forward my office line to it if I’m out doing rounds.” she explains. Eden accepts the scrap from Billy, offering a smile to the man, "I'll get in touch with you later, see if you need any financial help with the project and all that. I've more money then I know what to do with right now, so.." Jon says, “nodded staying quiet watching this with some interest. It wasn't that he was ambivilent or didn't care, it was just when you were mostly translucent, an ogre, and frozen? Well emoting wasn't his strong suit people. He considered the project and looked to Billy Ray, "Dude, if you need help getting things to build the stuff we need hit me up. My family's got a couple scrapyards. They get all sorts of useful things in there. I'll make sure tehy treat us fair on it." Because the Alexander Family? Well not necessarily known for their blooming altruism. That he couldn't promise. Fair? he could guarantee fair.” Ian watches as the others exchange information and then he says, "Great. Please keep me posted with the status of how things are going." He then turns to the group as a whole once more and asks, "Did anyone else have any other business now that we've got this project in the planning stages?" "Hell yeah, ah'll take y'both up on it! Ah got money but not a metric ton'a it, so ah'll take both financial an' resource help. Ah got a feelin' ah should contact y'soonest, Mister Jon, an' go for a walkabout amongst these scrapyards, sorta shoppin' fer fair deals!" He thinks for a second, scrubbing his jaw. "What do y'all doctors recommend fer keepin' mah medical skills up? Volunteer wit' fire an' rescue? Get a few part time gigs in the ER, like? Ah imagine they use paramedics here fer some stuff, now an' then, right?" Billy Ray asks. “I don’t have any other business at the moment, no.” Isolde gives her head a little shake and then takes another sip of her coffee. There’s a look to Billy Ray as he asks about how to keep skills up and she ponders a moment, “Working as a paramedic is always good, we could use more at the hospital. They tend to get burnt out really fast.” she admits with a frown. "Volunteering for the fire department and having medical skills is always a plus as well." she adds with a nod. Jon nodded with a slow, heavy agreement with Isolde. "We can aaaaaalways use EMTs. They have to keep people together long enough to get to us. It's thankless, tiring, and makes all the difference in the world. Fire and Rescue? Shiiiit. Do it. They need people that run at danger and not away. You want to study shit you can come to her lectures with me." He cracked a faint grin. "I have no business at the moment either." Eden says as the question is posed, "Though I do look forward to the medical lessons that are upcoming, and any other gardening lessons I might be able to get as well." Billy Ray grins, "Fair 'nuff, bubba. Got yerself a deal," says Billy Ray to Jon with a grin and a nod. Otherwise he nods to Ian - all good. Ian glances around from person to person and when no further business is brought up, he says, "Alright then. We'll consider the business part of this gathering closed." He then smiles to Eden and says "You are more than welcome to visit and I will be happy to provide what lessons that you might be interested in." He then says, "There's snacks and drinks. Make yourselves comfortable and stay as long as you like. Thank you all for coming out tonight, and I'm pleased to hear that we have a new project to work on. I will let Oberon know that his idea has been well received." Isolde gives a smile and a little round of applause once the meeting is coming to an end, “Very well done. I’m looking forward to the projects.” she tells the gathered. “And now...I must flee back for the last of my shift.” she tells them as she gets up. There is a snack grabbed on the way out the door and a wave to the rest of them. Jon stuck around getting off his 15 hour run. Big guy looked exhausted but he was still going. He shared contact info with thos ethat needed it and made sure he had Billy Ray's number right to set up a time to go scrapping. "Oh, shit Ian, we got access to a trucksna dI can probably borrow a couple cube vans from my uncle if we need it. If we gas em up I'm pretty sure he won't care. If we need them to move things." Ian nods to Jon and says, "I'm sure we'll have use for all those things once the project gets underway," making note of the offer and adding it to the list of resources in his head that can be dedicated toward this new venture. |
