Utridge Family'No' is never forever | |||||||||||||||||
HistoryArriving on the scene in 1863, second-youngest of the Seven Families, the Utridges have been clinging to the lowermost rung of "upper" class for the past century and a half, producing myriad upwardly mobile offspring. Originally focusing on banking, business and genteel trading, the family has tried, and failed, to break into the political scene of Fort Brunsett. Famous in the family for his success, the Honorable Mr. Jared Utridge, a local judge, managed to acquire political office and hold it for a whole four years in the early 1870s before his excesses resulted in a quiet dismissal. Not before certain alliances had been cemented with the Alexanders... Again, an Utridge managed to be elected to a minor position in 1885, and a third time in 1890, but since that year, no Utridge has ever successfully won an election in the Brunsett area. At least one Utridge is on every ballot, and the family does continue to hold positions of material wealth and power, but control over the city itself eludes them. These days the core group has begun to branch out into the hospitality business, trying to draw in tourist dollars in a shameless effort at attracting positive attention to the Utridge name. The family maintains a handful of speedboats docked on Lake Brunsett, and while family homes are often in the vicinity, the patriarch prefers to dwell in the Red Clover Hotel. OpinionsSupernaturalThe Utridge family is 'supernatural agnostic' as a general rule. It isn't "live and let live" -- it's "live until you inconvenience us" or "live as long as your presence benefits us" as far as the majority of the family is concerned. Would they sell out a relative? You bet your Betsy they would, if it would give them political/social/financial clout somehow. A lot of family members think it's a steaming heap of horse muffins and refuse to give credence to psychic powers or 'fairies' in the slightest, but the higher-ups are well aware that these 'supers' are real, and have real power, and they are always on the lookout for ways to manipulate that power for their -- and the family's -- benefit.
