Jacob Matthew Drake
Jacob was the single child of married ranch owners in rural Vermont in the 70s, and had nothing intervened, would have grown up, taken over the ranch when his parent's passed on, probably found a local girl to marry, and died a rancher just like his father, a completely unimpressive life. Jacob's apparent acceptance of routine and simple life might have been why the Marquis took him in the first place. Adding him to his pack of Hounds, Jacob joined, then eventually led, the pack whenever the Marquis needed to make a statement, or dispose of a toy he didn't want anymore. A Hunt would be called, and with grat spectacle, the Pack would chase down the target of the Marquis' ire and rip them to shreds.
This changed when the target became one of the Marquis' new serving girls, a brewer who had gone out of her way to be nice to him. She knew just where to scritch and usually had a bowl of her best mead for him to enjoy while he waited at the Marquis' feet in the great hall. So when a Hunt was called, and she was named the target, for the first time, Jacob's slowly fading humanity protested. He knew where the Marquis' lands were weak, where others had escaped, because he had hunted them down that way, so rather than killing the girl, he showed her how to escape. Originally intending to return, the two got lost in a Hedge thicket, and scarred and scratched with memory numbing Thorns, stumbled out into the real world.
Its taken some time to sort things out. His old home having long since been foreclosed on and sold off, nothing left of his real family, and hardly any Lost in that area, Jacob found out from local Hobs about Fort Brunsett and Fate's Harvest, and decided to take Zany with him there - surely it would be safer for them both in a Freehold. Time to see if that's true...
RP Hooks
- Instinctual - Jacob hasn't been back to human society for THAT long, and as such, he's not always the immediate master of the beast. Under stress or when suddenly having to make a snap decision, you may catch him answering EXACTLY like you would expect a canine to respond - chasing, growling, lashing out. He's trying to be better about this, really he is, and it can be a source of embarrassment depending on the situation. Sometimes, however, it happens to lead him to the RIGHT choice, which might explain why it still happens from time to time.
- Loyal and Defensive - Jacob can be UNREASONABLY defensive concerning the few people he considers friends. There's a specific reason for this, but it might take some determined work to uncover it.
- Humility - Jacob really does not like the spotlight being pointed directly at him. He doesn't handle praise well and stumbles when a group conversation is pointed at him, though he has less trouble in one-on-one conversations. He will happily volunteer to be helpful even if that means going out of his way for someone he's just met, if he knows he can do something they need done...just because he can. He really is trying to be a Good Dog.
Contacts
- Zany - I was supposed to slaughter her and instead escaped with her.
- Signe - Silver hair. Cute puppy. Need to make her blush more often.
- Lala - If wearing a dead Muppet wasn't enough of a warning, this one HAS to be Trouble. That might not necessarily be a BAD thing...
