Tarot. The Sun.
The Sun casts light upon all features of the day, exposing everything for its true and intrinsic value, eliminating all hanging shadows and falsities which existed under the cloak of darkness. As father of the universe, the Sun unconditionally embraces every living being under his care, extending his warmth and security without demanding anything in return. However, as the earthly sun must recede into night, the Sun tarot card also represents the impermanence of happiness, understanding that all good things must come to an end, and it is only through the pain of experience that we learn to appreciate even the simplest of joys.
We must venture out of our comfort zones in order to continue spiritual growth, and the underlying message is best understood in the French proverb "Faut souffrir pour être belle", or "one must suffer to be beautiful", a suffering which we must undergo while hunting in the darkness of ourselves. For it is within this darkness that we learn to follow our own inner light, refining our spiritual selves, and with time eventually re-connecting with the always eternal rays of the Sun.
