Ash Lefevre
[[Category:{{{kith_3}}}]]
Overview
Like so many changelings Ash was not born with his current name. Unlike many, however, he retained his last name rather than his first. Born in 1977 as Jake Lefevre to a branch of the Lefevre family that lived in Pennsylvania Ash had what one might term a more or less typical childhood, at least as far as the Lefevre family was concerned. He showed no particular aptitude or even interest in the occult arts and so other than some very basic instruction that should have kept him on the right side of the Pact he was given no real tutelage.
This is unfortunate since with better training he might have been more careful. People interested in being polite might refer to Jenks Township, Pennsylvania as 'quaint' or 'rustic'. Those less charitably inclined would probably use words like 'podunk' or 'backwater'. He was hardly the first eighteen year old who had to be hospitalized after a night spent stumbling drunk about the Allegheny National Forest. Most people attributed the changes in his personality and the sickly turn of his health to nearly freezing to death, but of course his Aunt and Grandmother knew better. They knew that the thing in the hospital bed was a piece of faerie magic meant to replace him and that he must have done something that violated the Pact his family had made so long ago.
Most normal families would have done something about the inhuman creature suddenly replacing their lost relative, but the Lefevre are far from a normal family. Originally they hoped for Jake's rapid return and kept the Fetch because it would have been easier for Jake to step back into his real life but days stretched into weeks and weeks stretched into years.
Jake lived these years in the deep forests of Arcadia. Who his Keeper was or why he was taken has long been wiped from his memory. The closest he ever comes is late at night when he wakes, covered in sweat, remembering as he strode slowly through that deep green, walking in the footsteps of a shambling wooden giant with skin covered in bracken and moss.
The one thing he does remember is the sunlight as it sparkled, glittering green as it reflected from the strange jewel he held in his hand. He turned it this way and that, simultaneously remembering its arcane purpose while having no idea what it was. Still, it fascinated him the way it captured the golden rays of the sun, returning them as emerald shards of light. He did not have any training in the arts of the fae and so the arcane markings upon it were unknown and alien to him, and yet as he stared at them they seemed to transform, shifting without moving, twisting with changing until at last his brain could understand their impenetrable message: Rolling Rock Extra Pale, Latrobe Brewing, Colorado.
It wasn't that he had some overwhelming love for cheap beer that brought him back. It was simply all the memories that the beer triggered; parties when someone's parents were away, hanging out in the parking lot of the local convenience store trying to convince someone to go in and buy a case for him and his friends, hanging out at the lake late at night with whatever girl he was paired up with that month. It is ironic that something so trivial and mundane could revive so many memories of his previous life but the shift of a tiny pebble can sometime be the beginning of an enormous rockslide.
His actual flight from Arcadia after this is just a blur, branches whipping at his face and thorns tearing at his skin. He emerged to a world where twenty years had past though he appeared to only be in his late twenties.
Returning to his old life was impossible. His Fetch was ten years his junior and over a foot shorter. He would never have been able to take back his identity, and his Fetch had now been living the life of Jake for longer than he had. Still, his aunt was not without her resources. She knew people, and things that once were people, and found a group that would take him in and teach him about this new world and help him adapt to his new life.
He spent the next two years from them, far removed from any contact with his family, learning how to use these new abilities. He studied and became an expert in indentifying and growing the plants of the Hedge and even learned how to shape things in ways most changelings couldn't begin to understand. When he was finally inducted as a bridgewalker it was decided that he had to try and reconnect himself to the world of mortals. The close proximity if he were to return to Pennsylvania would have put too much strain on his Fetch and so it was decided that he should instead rejoin his extended family in Vermont, but as Ash, not as Jake.
