Participants

Raymond, Sara

16 June, 2018

Sara visits Raymond at his new digs and they discuss what they've been up to.

Location

Raymond's House

Emily and Sara's family were kind enough to give Raymond and the kids a place to stay, but the place was filled to the brim. So when Raymond went house-hunting he snatched up the first thing that was close to kin. It may have been a tad expensive at the time, but it proved to be suitable enough. Errant boxes can still be seen here and there, although most things have been unpacked. Much of the furnishing came from leftovers given by the Frys or from the local flea market. This late into the evening the children are playing in or the other's room while Raymond is sitting down in a chair and still unpacking things while low, melodic music plays in the background.

A light tap on the door. And then a heavier one when she realises it may not have been heard very well. She has to be more forceful. "Raymond!" she calls through the door. "Don't panic. It's just me." A long pause before she adds, "Sara!" And then feels immediately stupid for feeling the need to do that.

It wasn't heard at first, but the shout surely did catch Raymond's attention. Even if he is used to it he was in that quiet place in the back of his mind. He rises from his chair, and then crosses the room to answer the door. He's wearing a t-shirt and jeans, his shoes kicked somewhere off to the side. His mantle flares with a wave of heat, only intensified when in the Dawn's presence. He may have gotten slightly upset at the shouting. "Remind me before you leave to get a key made for you."

"Ooh...does that mean I can have parties here when you're at work?" Sara grins about the key before giving her brother-in-law a tight hug in greeting. "How are you doing?" she asks, looking him over as if she will see any problems he may try to hide. "Where are the kids?" The sound of children playing makes her look in that direction. "Question answered. So...gonna show me around this fancy place?" She is in jeans and hooped top, removing her sunglasses as she enters - even at night she will wear them (https://tinyurl.com/yaqgle9j).

The heat rises further as he simply stares at her, shakes his head, and welcomes her in with a wave. "If you can clean up your own mess and the kids aren't here, sure. Except I can't think of that many parties that'll be on and hot in the middle of the afternoon." He shrugs as he moves to sit back in that chair, then taking a glance back up to her. "Try not to be too loud, though, unless you want them to come running out. They aren't the biggest fans of the place."

"The parties will be awesome because I will be there. Doesn't matter what time" Sara smiles sweetly as she follows him into the room. The news about the kids makes her frown and glance in the direction of their sounds once more. "They don't like this place? Why?" A shrug as she considers her own question. "I suppose it is hard to move all the time." She finds a seat to sit down on, considering Raymond for a few moments. "Are you sure it is /them/ that don't like this place? Are /you/ okay?"

"Oh, yeah. Sure. I'm good. A-okay." He throws a thumbs up, and the facade is immediately broken by the playful chatter heard just above the music. Whatever the children were up to had Clement groaning about falling down some kind of pit and having to start over. Raymond sighs, looks down into the box, and then shrugs. The picture frame is set back inside, and he gives a limp shrug initially. "I don't really know. This place is so different. The people are nice and everything, but it's like something's missing. Like I'm missing one little thing that isn't right."

Sara wasn't fooled for a moment. She frowns at Raymond's attempt to be brave and then even more when he finally tells the truth. Dragging the chair over towards him, she takes his hands in hers and tries to look as serious and compassionate as she can. "We both know what is missing. She is missing from both our lives. We got our revenge but all those movies were right. It doesn't fill the hole. That will always be there unless we fill it with our love and warm memories. She will always be with us if we want her to be, Raymond. She doesn't have to leave a hole." It sounds like something she's been having to tell herself a lot lately. Leaning forward, she places a soft kiss on his forehead. "You're not alone. You never will be."

Raymond tries to put on a big smile, but he can only flash something akin to a smirk. I know, but some days it ain't that great. I'll always keep pushing forward, but I just have some nights where I stay up and stare at the ceiling."" He squeezes her hand briefly and leans back in his seat. "I'll make do, don't worry. How've you enjoyed things since you got here? I know it's not as big and the parties not as crazy, but they make some damn good booze. They even put half of it in the ice cream."

"You will do more than make good" the Dawn promises. "You will be awesome. And the kids will be awesome." Releasing his hands she sits back in her chair. "Nice change of subject there" she winks. "I'm doing okay. Went harvesting." Her voice drops a little in volume with that last sentence but then rises again. "Did a woman called Saturna get in contact with you? She might be able to make us some toys. Nice hometown, handmade stuff. And I met this guy called Logan who said he knew you. Very pretty."

"Logan I know, yeah." Raymond appears all too happy to change the subject, and steps up from his seat then. He moves over to the door of the room the children are in, and slowly closes the door while they argue over which of their favorite animals is best. When it's shut he returns to his seat with a tired sigh. "He's likely to be my mentor within the Waykeepers here. And of course he is. We Fairest usually can spot one another from a mile a way, for better or worse. But, I haven't met a Saturna. I think if I go asking around for that name someone'll point me in the right direction."

"If you come across Saturna, have a chat" Sara nods. "She seemed nice. I'm pretty sure everything that could be pierced was...not that I saw. It wasn't that kind of chat. I'm pretty sure she's pure mortal too. Logan I met at the Dawn hangout so I knew what he was. Quite sure of himself...even for a Dawn" she winks, trying to keep the mood up. He's going to be your teacher? Okay...why not? He suggested I join the Harvesters full time. I dunno. I almost got people killed the last time. Giant spiders are creepy...and dangerous."

"Giant spiders make for a good challenge," says the man that simply covers himself in metal and lugs around at least one sword while in the Hedge. "And you said almost. So it sounds like you did good. Maybe room for improvement when you were out getting fruits, but good nonetheless." He smiles, this time genuinely so. "Do you mean the Harvestmen? Or the Greenies? I've only heard a little bit about the second one."

"Oh sure, they were a great challenge" Sara laughs. "Though I don't feel a need to be challenged so much again in the near future. We got the fruit so I guess it was a success. And, yeah, the only /almost/ died. Harvestmen...did I get the name wrong? I always do that. Who are the Greenies? They sound interesting. I take it we're not talking about solar powered windmill enthusiasts." She shrugs. "You think I should join them? I did this little journey to prove I was loyal and helpful to the Freehold. Maybe I should make it even more formal?"

"It won't hurt, and they're different thing. Harvestmen are like the defenders of the freehold. I don't wanna say army, but it kinda feels like it with all the ranks." Raymond shrugs, his visage unsure. "Greenies, from what I was told, are like farmers, gardeners, and collectors of hedge fruit. They use it to heal too, but I know not all fruit heals. Damn it." He chuckles. "I should've asked if they do other stuff with it."

Sara laughs at the explanation. "Oh, well I'm definitely not army type. Unless army means shooting things from a long way away." Her brow furrows. "Actually, that is an army these days. But, seriously, not my scene. I'll probably do the Greenie thing if they want me. I'm sure they're allowed to carry weapons too. I mean, I'm good with a bow but hacking and slashing I leave to you. Don't worry, I'll learn all about the fruit and let you know. That's what sisters are for, right? Helping out."

"Oh, no. As good as you are with a bow they'd take you. There's folks that punch, some of 'em shoot, and some of 'em use swords like me. One of the lieutenants is about twice as big as me, and she said she fights with her bare hands." Raymond still appears in disbelief over that, but not too surprised. "And look at it like this, if they're good for getting drunk fruit might not be a bad substitute for actual booze. Maybe."

"Why not just stick to the booze?" Sara muses. "Just kidding. Booze or fruit, please don't get drunk around the kids. Around me...almost expected. A giantess twice as big as you? Wow. I guess I don't meet the interesting people. What do you think? Am I Harvestman...woman...or a Greenie?"

"I think you're a Harvestgreenies. Green harvest?" Raymond's jest is followed by a laugh that he tries to keep down lest he draw the attention of the children. "But, you could potentially do both. You're good enough with a bow to hold your own, and you're damn well my equal with it as I am with a sword. But, it wouldn't hurt to see what the greenies have to offer too. I can't say I completely understand, but the fruit stuff has always gone over my head."

"Oh please...like I'm as good as you with a sword" Sara smirks, while also discretely gesturing with her hand to keep up the flattery. "It's nice to hear you laugh." Her smirk turning into a warm smile. "So who do I talk to about the Greenies? You seem to be hooked in already. As I expected you would be. I haven't even seen any of my cousins yet. Maybe I shouldn't spend my days hiking the woods? How do I meet people doing that?"

"You can meet all kinds of people just hiking, but I wouldn't go hiking in these woods. I'm not macho enough to deny that the place gets creepy after dark. I'm not sure who to talk to. I think I said..." Raymond's voice trails off for a few moments. When it comes to him he says, "Isadora. Wait. No, not that. Um. Isa? No, no. Isolde. That's it. Isolde."

"Isolde" Sara repeats to memory. "Okay, I'll see if I can find her. I have to go hiking. I'm a Fry. Don't worry, I know about the wrong side of the river. I won't be going over there by myself anytime soon." She glances around. "Do you need some help unpacking? I never knew you had so much stuff! I live in a little room and I still have space. Though I don't have kids either." A pause. "Never will."
