Just after lunch on a weekday might not seem like the busiest time for a bar, even one with a selection of pub food on offer. And well, it's not. The bar is mostly deserted, except for the large man behind the bar, busying himself with cleaning and tidying from the small lunch crowd before the post-work crowd manages to make it's way in. He's dressed in blue jeans and a black shirt with the bar's rather simplistic logo across the front, and he looks bored out of his mind as he picks up bottles from behind the bar, holds them up to check their level before wiping the outside down with a rag and replacing it on the rack before moving on to the next one.
Oberon comes in through the front door. Beau turns from his work, watching the two entrants with a slowly blinking gaze. Just spending a moment taking them in, or rather what they are. He offers a small nod as Wally offers an order, and pulls a glass out from under the bar and gets to pouring. "And you?" The comment is offered to Luna. "We've got some food, too." There's a motion with his chin towards one of the menus spaced along the bar. "Beau." Is the response to Wally's own introduction.
The front door opens once more and another Lost comes inside. A new face. As most people these days. Though, this one looks he knows this place. He smiles as he looks around as he heads to the bar."Aunt Celine did not change a single thing all this time, hm?" He asks to the barman."Mind giving me some water, please, B?" He asks as he takes place in one of the stools by the bar. Then, he looks at the two other Lost."Hi. I'm Dave." He doesn't offer them a hand, but smiles brightly. Wally looks at Beau and says, "I'll have some warm pretzels with honey mustard, please?" he asks. To Luna he replies, "I'm great! I just delivered a kidney to the hospital for a transplant, and I'm told the operation went well!" To Dave he says, "Hullo, Dave, I'm Wally." He has an easy smile. The ale is placed in front of Wally, and Beau is tapping the order into the computer even as Luna is speaking it, quickly followed by the addition from Wally. Then he's setting to quickly getting both soda and water with a short nod for Dave's arrival. "No, she did not. But why change what works?" Beau shrugs, two more glasses finding their place on the bar in front of the respective orderers. He leans against the back counter, crossing his arms over his chest as he regards the three with a tilt of his head, probably listening in to the kitchen.
Dave smiles to the bartender in a shy thanks as his water is delivered. He inspects it quickly and a second later, he drinks from it while paying attention to the other two Lost conversation. Specially to the girl that didn't give him her name. Wally catches Luna's look and chuckles. "No, I didn't *donate* a kidney; I delivered one. I'm a courier. I do all sorts of things, but on top of the usual things, I transport organs between hospitals up and down the East Coast. It's one of my favorite things to do; brings hope to people who've lost it." A big grin, and then, he drinks the ale and smacks his lips as the head tickles his upper lip. "I knew moving to this area was a good idea, and these microbrews are one of the best reasons for that. Thanks, Beau!" "Family recipe." Beau grins slightly at Wally. Well, there's one way to get the grumpy guy to smile. Compliment the booze. He excuses himself for a moment to dip back into the kitchen and emerges with three plates. The two orders that are deposited in front of Wally and Luna, and a third plate with four fried mozerella sticks that ends up in front of Dave. Well, until Beau pilfers two of them and goes back to his perch against the back of the bar, munching away. "Organ delivery, that's one I haven't heard before. Guess someone needs to do it."
Trying not to interrupt the interesting conversation about organs delivery service, Dave whispers a 'thank you' to Beau when the other man puts in front of him a plate with the mozarella. Calmly, the green haired man pick one of the sticks and gives it a bit bite. A moment later, he smiles and 'hmms' to the taste of the food."An Oracle? That's interesting." He murmurs and, a second later, he realises he said it out loud instead of just in his head and instantly his cheeks get pinky."Sorry." He says and tries to hide his shame with another smile. Wally looks at Dave and says, "I like your hair, man. I tried braids once, but they kept frizzing apart and looked silly on me, you know? But you pull it off well." As to Luna, when she starts touching things with antennae, he arches an eyebrow. "Does being an oracle make things boring if you know what's going to happen before you do something?" "Of course they're good." Beau says that with a level of confidence that would maybe be off-putting if they weren't just that. He picks up his bar rag and goes back to cleaning bottles. "That does sound boring. Takes all the excitement out of life if you know what's coming." He wrinkles his nose a bit as he sniffs a mostly empty bottle of tequila, then shrugs and returns it to the rack.
"Fortune and misfortune are intwined. One begats the other." Luna says simply, "Can I get some napkins?" She grumbles and takes off her hoodie. But doing so reveals those two deep purple wings she has on her back. "Oracles are neat, but they have their prices." Luna says towards Dave. "Fate takes and gives, it does nothing for free." Dave nods to the Oracle's words in agreement and then looks at her wings taking some time to assimilate all its details calmly."Nice wings, by the way." He murmurs before taking another bite from his mozarella stick. "Are either of you," he asks Dave and Luna, "new to the area?" He doesn't bother asking Beau; the Desrochers are a fixture. "I ask because--well, I moved in six months ago, promptly got sent on various travels to do various things, and now I'm back. And one of my roles is, well, orientation for...newcomers. I apologize if you aren't and I missed you, but I still don't have a full census. Not that that's likely to ever happen." "Asking for a census of all the newcomers? Might as well ask for a solid gold statue of yourself while you're at it." Beau snerks softly as he examines the last bottle, finds it fine, as one always should with a good scotch and sets it down. "You'll get the statue first." He picks up one of his clean bar rags and places it in front of Luna, using the one in his hand to clean up any spill on the bar.
Dave arches a brow at the mean comment from Beau and turns to look Wally to wait his time to talk."I'm a Desrochers. Spent the last few years in Europe. Arrived yesterday." He explains briefly."Are you one of the Waykeepers? I wonder if there is a place to a 'newcomer' among your group. I'm free and willing to help." He pauses for a moment."I'm oathed. So, you don't need to worry about telling me intel." He then grins to the courier to asure the man he's a nice guy. "Aye, I'm a Waykeeper," he says to Dave, and to Luna he says pleasantly: "If you'd like, I can tell you what is needed to join the Freehold here, and introduce you around." To Beau he just chuckles. "No, you're right; as a group...well, organization and strict requirements aren't our strong points now are they?" A slight grin. To Dave he says, "If you'd like, I'm sure you can become a Waykeeper. You should talk to Ava, though--I'm afraid I'm not the sort to do recruitment to the ranks. I can introduce you, if you'd like?" Beau snaps his fingers, pointing at Dave. "That reminds me. The Harvestmen may need someone with carpentry skills eventually, to help with a project that might be coming up. The captain will be at the meet and greet, can't miss him, taller than me. Big horns. Goes by Jonah. Don't need to join for the project either if fighting isn't your thing." He grins his fangy grin for a moment, which probably isn't totally reassuring. He pulls out the soda hose and refills Luna's drink for the bit lost.
"Ava? I'd like that, if you can do it. I'm crashing at my family's farm. I assume you know where it is. And I still need to buy myself a phone, so you can leave a message here and someone will pass it to me at some point." Dave says to Wally before turning back to the other mozarella stick to start devouring it too."This is delicious, B. You'll need to teach me the recipe at some point." He then grins to the other Desrochers. Then, he stands up."Well. I'm going to take a look around. It was a pleasure to meet you both." To Beau, he just smile. With that, he turns around and departs. -> >> Wally to Here << <-=============================================Rolled 5 Successes for an exceptional success. < 3 3 4 4 4 4 5 7 7 8 8 9 9 10 > ===============================-> >> Dexterity + Wyrd No Flags << <-"Well," he says, "there're a number of laws to learn, and of course, a Freehold Oath to study and understand before you swear it. I could go into detail, but the short version is pretty much what you'd expect: don't betray us; obey the laws of Hospitality; the Crown changes hands four times a year but each period is split between two Courts; don't kill other Freehold members; and the like." He does something a bit strange, then. He opens up his courier bag, angling it so the opening faces the ceiling light. Then he looks in, sticks his arm in to a depth that appears as if it would go all the way through the bag's bottom, and comes back with a folder, which he hands to Luna. "Here you are." "The killing one is important." Beau chuckles under his breath, a deep rumbling noise in his chest. He leans forward against the bar, arms folded along the edge. "This freehold is rather accepting as far as others I've been guest to. So it shouldn't be too much of a problem, but it never hurts to join one of the factions either, just to help out where you can." -> >> Luna to Here << <-==============================================Rolled 1 Success < 1 5 5 7 7 7 7 9 > ====================================-> >> Clarity + 1 No Flags << <--> >> Luna to Here << <-==============================================Rolled 0 Success < 4 6 7 7 > ==========================-> >> Intelligence + Occult No Flags << <-Luna nods, and takes the folder, smiling. "Thank you. I'll need to look these over." Luna looks towards Beau, and nods. "So where do I go when I'm ready to pledge to the freehold?" Wally finishes his beer and his pretzels, and says, "Well, Luna, here's my number," and he hands her a standard business card with "Scarlet Speed Courier Service" on it and his phone number. "You'll have to set up a meeting with the Crown, but there's a meetup happening Sunday--hosted by Ava and Dobson--and it's happening right here, so you can meet other people from the Freehold."
Beau nods slowly. "Yup, show up, have fun, meet people, get drunk." He tosses his rag over his shoulder as he begins to clear the dishes as they get up. "See you guys later, Oracle, Flash." There's the faintest hint of a grin across his mouth as he deposits the dishes in a window for someone else to take care of. Wally says, "Take care!" |
