Autumns meet at the Caretaker's House

Location

The Caretaker's House

It's a quiet Sunday afternoon for the people of Tamarack Falls. Though as one gets through the doors to the Caretaker's House in the Meeting House graveyard they would notice that there is something definitely amiss. Or well, something in the house is a bit angry and moving stuff around. That thing can't be seen at the moment.

And sitting in one of the chairs and looking perturbed Shadowsoul that's got a scowl on her stitched face, "Jack you need to stop that." she growls out to...nothing. Apparently the resident ghost is having a good time messing with people today.

Byron is more heard rather than seen at first, with heavy footsteps thumping his way from the back until he appears in one of the sitting room doorways, and almost stumbles over one of the chairs that has apparently been moved, "Damnit." he sighs and gives Ashe a questioning look maybe just to confirm the reason, then looks around the room, muttering, "Who peed in his cornflakes?"

Ashe tries not to snicker when Byron stumbles on the chair, "Apparently he's not been getting enough visitors. I'm about to send him out for a full day." she tells him with a glower.

And when that's said, there's one more thrown picture frame and then it goes silent as there's a gust of wind that travels by and the sound of the basement door slamming is heard.

There's an odd series of sounds from the hallway leading to the sitting room: it sounds almost like heeled footsteps, but the rhythm is off. Click, click, click-click-click. Click. Click-click-click-click-click. And then an eerily melodic, "Jesus fuck!" followed by a thud. A pause, followed by harmonic muttering, then Poppy appears in the doorway pushing white-blonde hair out of her face with one black-manicured hand. "You seem to have a resident asshole," she informs the two before adding, "Also, hi. I'm Poppy." A wry grin.

Byron sets a look on his face at Ashe's explanation. You know the look. Every parent has had it. The 'Jesus, what did he do THIS time?' rueful not-quite-amused-more-resigned look, though he finally nods, "Well, anything that will put him in a better mood. I don't wanna keep cleaning up the broken glass." And then Poppy is there! Byron chuckles softly and turns his head to look, keeping his voice down, "Normally he behaves, but we havent been introducing him to enough people lately and thinks we are ignoring him. Hello there."

"Oh gods his murdered someone." Ashe frowns as she starts to stands, but then a wild Poppy appears and there's a chuckle, "Not dead. Okay." she muses as she retakes her seat. The face is not familiar to her, but she gives a smile and a wave, "Hello Poppy. I'm Ashe." she introduces herself. "And that's Black Jack. As Byron said, he's generally better behaved. Apologies on the mess." she tells them.

"Your hallway has a bunch of crap in it; it looks like a crackhead's idea of an obstacle course," Poppy says blandly, the choral undertone somehow suggestive of a sad trombone. "And no, not dead." A smile at Ashe's introduction and the siren nods, stepping carefully into the sitting room. "It's nice to meet you," she says cheerfully, then gives Ashe a thoughtful look. "Black Jack? Does he actually play?"

Byron takes a step towards the hallway, then stops himself and waves it off, "if I straighten it up now, he's going to get pissy again that I cleaned it up and find something ELSE to knock over. He can chill out first." With that said, he guestures a little more welcomingly to Poppy and smiles, "Ashe is the ringleader of this circus, more or less. Aside from Jack being grumpy, it's been rather quiet tonight. I hope you are settling in well?"

Ashe gives a chuckle, "That's an appropriate description, though he's probably just a drunken baby." she admits. "Come on in and have a seat, would you like something to drink or eat? The kitchen is fully stocked and things." she offers. "He used to play Blackjack when he's alive. He won't give me his real name. So we nicknamed him that." she tells her. There's a look to Byron when he tells Poppy that she's the ringleader, "August is the Autumn Councilor to the Freehold and things. I just keep people going when he's absent." she chuckles. "I'm guessing you are new to us?" she asks Poppy.

Byron's comment is met with a rather sharp grin. "Duct tape?" Poppy suggests, a wicked gleam in her eye. "I appreciate the information. And...yes, more or less new to the area. I've got a place to live, and a job, and nobody has puked on my shoes yet, so it's a good start." A tilt of her head greets the information about the local Autumn court, then the siren nods again. "I appreciate the information," she says, moving over to settle herself on a chair.

Byron murmurs in amusement, "I tape things down and he'll see it as a challenge. I'd rather not give him a /mission/, because he has all day to obsess on things, and I dooccassionally need to help people out in the Hedge." With that said, the huge chunk of obsidian shifts his weight and settles down on the floor, crossing his legs and folding his wings in close to keep from batting at anyone whenever they pass, "Well, no one has puked on my shoes yet either, so I hope that's not an obligatory requirement I havent met yet..."

"Duct tape is the most useful tool these days." Ashe chuckles to that as she settles back in the chair. Then there's a look to Poppy, "Not having your shoes puked on is a good thing. What do you do for work?" she asks her curiously. "Do you have any questions about the local Court or the Freehold?" she asks her. "I know sometimes being a new arrival can be tough, so if we can help in anyway, just let us know." she offers. Then she looks to Byron and there's a laugh, "Yeah, no challenges for like a week or so." she muses. Then she goes quiet to listen.

"Depends on whether you're likely to end up working in a bar at any point," Poppy says easily to Byron. "Eventually, some asshole will puke on your shoes. Sometimes I feel like I could have another fucking career, with the knowledge that I have gained on how to remove bodily fluids from clothing." Opalescent eyes gleam at that and she looks over at Ashe. "Part-time musician, part-time bartender," the siren responds. "I owed someone a favor, which is how I ended up here. And I'd be interested in knowing whatever there is to know with regards Hedge-type things out this way. If there are any particular areas of trouble, any specific Gentry that are meddling, where to avoid in the interest of not being sold off as someone's new fucktoy, that sort of thing."

Byron grunts softly in agreement with Ashe and tilts his head, apparently able to relax a little more when his big butt is parked on the floor. Listening to the conversation, he considers for a moment, then glances at Ashe, then back to Poppy, "I was in charge of...well, a group in the Freehold that kept them safe when they went into the Hedge, and I do those kinds of favors for the Court, since I'm not exactly a good researcher." He offers a small smile at that, "Aside from the usual caveat of...don't go into the Hedge alone...there are some peculiar Hob types that bear being careful around, and obviously stay away from the Market unless you understand what you're getting into by walking into it."

"Do you work at the Cyclone or Desrochers by any chance? I know those are ran by fellow Lost." she tells her. She gives a nod to her explanation, "Keeping a promise to someone is a good thing." she states. Then she looks to Byron as he speaks and there's a nod to his information, "There's a huge Hob army in the Hedge at the moment. We've not had an update on it in a week or so, but there's people looking into it. They attacked a hob village and were taking them. Apparently there's also half mechanical Briarwolves that are among this group as well. So if you have to go in the Hedge, go with a group, or take something that'll shoot through armor." she offers. "Byron is our Ranger of the Thorns and he's a Hedge Warden, so a good person to take." she adds.

Poppy smirks at Byron. "I'd ask if you've really seen people going into the hedge alone, but I know what they say about asking stupid questions." At the mention of the Market, she shrugs. "Most of the time, I have better things to do than sell off memories for shitty baubles. But point taken." A tilt of her head again. "What types of Hobs?" A shake of her head at the description, then she says, "Sounds like something's in charge of that army. I assume people are trying to figure out what. And I'll make a point of bringing a meat shield of ome kind." Sharp teeth grin at Ashe, then she adds, "Breaking promises is generally bad news, yes. And it's someplace else. Mortal owned." A shrug.

Byron taps his nose gently and points to Ashe when she goes into more detail about the Problems With Hobs and Wolves, "Its never a good idea to go alone ANYWAY...now its just even worse." When Ashe includes his titles, the big lug smiles and offers a slow bow of his head from his seated position, "At your service. Well, unless you're wanting to do something suicidal. Then, you're probably on your own." He winks at that and leans forward a little, to rest his elbows on his thighs. Nodding in approval of her undertanding of the danger the Market represents, he offers, "There are several that no longer care too muc about their memories, so the Market still sees decent business...but it goes without saying, when you decide to venture into the hedge, if you'll tell me when you are going and what gate you are leaving from, I will be there"

Ashe gives a chuckle, "We can warn people about not going into the Hedge by themselves till we're blue in the face, someone always doesn't listen. We just try to make sure they are warned." she nods to that. "And I don't visit the market unless there's Black Apple business that takes me there." she shakes her head. "Nothing wrong with Mortal owned establishments." she smiles to that. Then she looks to Byron as he speaks and there's a smile to the man as he does.

"Not suicidal, last check. If I were, well, I wouldn't be asking for a meatshield, would I," Poppy says dryly with a mirthless smile, a bit of a dirge creeping into her voice. "I appreciate the offer, however, and will most likely be taking you up on it at some point; there are some things I want from the Hedge from time to time. Being dead not one of them." She grins at that, then gives Ashe an interested look at the mention of Black Apple. "Also good to know."

Byron grins at Poppy's response to the suicidal comment and grunts softly, "Good. It certainly wont hurt to have some smarter folks around here. Sorta even out some of the crazy, more or less. Because this many high Wyrd Lost are completely normal and stable, right? Sure! To Poppy, he asks curiously, "Do you have any, well, special skills you want to advertise, just in case someone has a problem and needs that sort of help?"

"He's a good guy." Ashe muses as she looks aside to Byron for a moment and gives him a wink. Then she looks back to Poppy and there's a nod, "Just let people know." she states. "Are you planning on joining up with the Freehold or just going to see how things go?" she asks her. "I try not to push people either way. I work with Freehold Autumns and non Freehold the same." she admits. Then there's a nod to Byron's question as her phone buzzes in her pocket. She settles back to check the message while people answer.

A reverberating laugh greets Byron's comment about crazy. "I am pretty sure we're all fucking crazy, one way or another," Poppy says, then appears to consider the gargoyle's question. "If people are willing to come to someone who isn't a part of the Freehold, sure. I'm pretty good about gathering information, if that's useful. Also, I'm not bad in the performance department, although I find most Lost aren't interested in that kind of thing." A smirk. "What's one more flower in a bouquet?" Ashe's question about the Freehold garners another thoughtful look. "Most likely? I'm hoping to meet more people first, if it's all the same."

Byron beams at Poppy's laugh for a moment, though he shoots a curious look over at Ashe when she 'rings'. He tsks softly, "All are good things to know you can do. With this place, you never know entirely what you might need on short notice. As for meeting more people, I don't know that I have very good recommendations on places to go that it doesn't sound like you've tried already, so it might just be a matter of time. If you join Fate's Harvest, then there are a few more options, but its not like doing so suddenly lets you in on a huge social party either." He rolls one shoulder in a shrug and offers a faint smile, like 'what are you going to do?'

"Taking your time is a good thing with most things." Ashe nods to Poppy's words. "When you feel ready to talk about joining you can track down one of the Waykeepers or just let us know and we can point you to one." she tells her. Then she's standing, "I have to take my leave, August is in need of me about a matter." she offers an apologetic look to both of them. Then she bends to kiss the top of Byron's head and then straightens, "I'll see you at home for dinner." the Shadowsoul offers. Then she turns to Poppy and offers a little bow of her head, "It was a pleasure to meet you, Poppy. I look forward to seeing you more and joining in on Autumn events." she tells her. Then she starts to make her way for the door to go deal with business.
