Ashe has open office hours for Custodian things. Oberon comes for a book and Max wants to join! Custodians

Location

Whelan Chronicle

It's Sunday and Ashe has offered up the conference room of the Whelan Chronicle for office hours. She had put out the note that if people had business or needed to talk to her about. The woman is sitting at the table with a bottle of soda and a notepad where she's taking notes. Apparently caffeine is needed for today. There's a whisper from something close to her and Ashe pokes her finger into the back of her hair where it shushes.

Sitting next to her is a fammiliar face to some, Byron is one of the Lieutenants in the Harvestmen. Ashe gives a look over to the Gargoyle when they have a break between visitors, "So what do you want to do for dinner?" she asks him with a bit of a smile that peeks through the shadows that surround her.

Oberon knocks on the office door before opening it gently and poking his head inside."Sorry. Is this the office of Ashe?" He asks as a strain of bright green hair falls in front of his eyes."I'm Oberon." He says introduces himself and smiles politely.

Byron rumbles softly at the question and looks curious for a moment, as if he hadn't considered food yet, but now that she's mentioned it, there's a soft growling coming from the gargoyle's midsection, "Well. Something with meat..." he trails off when Oberon arrives, both brows going up as he falls quiet...it's Ashe's show, so he doesn't respond beyond offering a bow of his head in greeting, "Byron."

Not long after Oberon wanders in, so does the enchanted mortal Max. Dressed casually as always, she wears a simple hoodie with a t-shirt underneath, denim jeans, and sneakers. Her attire made of various shades of gray, muted colors helping her to blend in with a crowd more easily. Her hair is worn down in loose, somewhat groomed curls. Even if her hair is slightly messy, she makes it work. A light but friendly smile is on her lips as she makes her way into the office, lifting a gloved hand to wave at all the familiar faces. "Is there a number I can take or something? Somewhere to wait until it's my turn or whatever?" she questions, giving a nod to both Byron and Oberon as they were obviously there first. She doesn't want to intrude on whatever business they have going on.

Ashe always thought of food! There's a grin to Byron and she's about to say something to him, but then Oberon's arrival shushes her. The Shadowsoul gives a wave to the man, "Welcome, Oberon. I'm Ashe. Come on it." she offers as she motions to a seat. "What can I do for you today?" she asks him with a smile, it pulls at the stitches that are permanently in her face. When she sees Max there's a nod of greeting, "Come on in and have a seat Max. I can handle business with both of you guys." she tells the young woman as she motions her to a seat. "Do you guys want something to drink or anything?" she asks.

Byron offers a smile at Max when she makes her way in as well, only offering, "Hey Max..." to the enchanted mortal. Rather than saying more to Ashe, he reaches over to grab a pad of paper from the side of her desk and scribbles down a small list of restaurant types on it, doodling a little while his attention is drawn back to Oberon with some curiosity, waiting to hear what he's here for.

Oberon gives passage to Max but waits outside until being invited to get inside. Once in, he gestures gently to Max takes a seat first."Well. Ladies first." He says to Ashe as he picks another seat."I'd like some tea, if you have some. If not, I can go with a glass of water."

"Hey Byron, good to see you taking a break from keeping us all safe," Max tells the gargoyle with a friendly tone. Then she glances to Oberon, giving him a playful smirk as she takes a seat. "I may be female but I'm pretty sure I'm not classy enough to be a 'lady'," she replies, chuckling playfully. A hand reaches up to brush some of her hair from her face as she returns her attention to Ashe. She shakes her head lightly at the offer of something to drink. "I heard you were in charge of this Custodians group and thought I might see if I could join to help out with the Freehold," she explains.

Ashe stands and heads over to the small table where there's a pot of tea sitting and gets Oberon a cup real quick. She slides the cup over to him and then cream and sugar should she need it. Then she settles back down into her chair and gives the two across the table her attention. She gives Max a nod, "I am in charge of the Custodians, yes." she tells her with a touch of a smile. "Would you be alright with having to go into the hedge sometimes with the group?" she asks her. "We work within the Hedge and out of it. If you aren't comfortable with the Hedge, that doesn't mean you can't join. It just means I'd give you tasks that dealt with the real world." she adds.

Oberon smiles to Ashe as he takes the tea and adds sugar to it calmly. He then leans back against the back of his chair and lets the two women have their talking.

Byron smirks at the banter about Max being a Lady, but perhaps wisely withholds his commentary. he shifts his attention to look at Ashe to watch her response, then back to Max to judge the reaction, but again doesn't offer anything further. While he waits for an answer, he glances curiously at Oberon, finally setting his pen down. He takes in a deep breath and nods slightly at Ashe, as if agreeing with her idea of 'don't have to go into the Hedge.

There's a moment of thought to the question posed to her, Max briefly glancing in Byron's direction since he had warned her of the dangers of the Hedge before. Returning her bright-eyed gaze, she gives a small nod to Ashe. "With a group? Yes. Not to underestimate the dangers of the other side, but things can get deadly and dangerous out here too," she points out. After all, she had gotten shot pretty badly last time Ashe had seen her. Then she glances over at Oberon, smiling lightly at him. "You don't have to wait until I'm done with my stuff. You should bring up whatever you need too." There's a pause of consideration before she adds, "Unless it's secret business."

Ashe gives a nod to Max, "I wouldn't put you in the Hedge by yourself. That would be carelessness on my part and I really wouldn't wish a Durance on anyone." she tells Max in an honest tone. While she's an Autumn, she does care for people. "Do you mind starting as a recruit and going from there?" she asks Max. Then there's a look to Oberon and a smile, "What are you needing, Mister Desrochers?" she asks him. Apparently she was multitasking well.

Oberon bites his lower lip as he turns to check on Max. Then, he grins."Hm. Well. I'm just here to ask for a book. I was accepted into the Greenies and though the Custodians could have a book about Goblin Fruits I could borrow to learn the basics so I don't bother the other members with noobie questions and such things."

Byron sits up a little as he listens, slowly nodding his head. To Max he does offer, "If you're ever in a situation where you think you need to go into the Hedge, please for the love of Autumn, get me or one of the Harvestmen. I dont care if its just 30 seconds, that's all the time It needs." It like the Hedge itself is a thing. He does at least let it go when Oberon talks about the book, trying not to interrupt further.

Max expression turns curious at Oberon's request, books about goblin fruits? That could be interesting, even if she didn't really know what goblin fruits were. She doesn't comment though as she shifts her gaze to the gargoyle. A brow raises slightly at Byron, Max giving him a bit of a questioning look. "I can't imagine a reason I'd need to go into the Hedge unless it was for something with the Custodians," she points out. "I don't know who else are Harvestmen besides you anyways," she notes with a slight furrowing of her brows. Returning her attention to Ashe, she offers the other woman a friendly smile. "It would be presumptuous of me to think I'd be anything more than a recruit for now. Especially since I'm still learning about everything, you know?" she says with a bit of a chuckle.

Ashe gives a bit of a smile to Oberon, "Yes, we have books on Hedgefruits and things. I don't have them here, but I can make sure that one gets to you or that we deliver it to you. Unlike the library, if it becomes overdue I will hunt you down for the book back." she tells him with a smile. There's a look to Byron and a smile to him, not minding him talking as well. She then looks back to Max, "Byron is right. If anything involves you going into the hedge, you should have someone with you." she agrees. "Whether it's for Custodian things or if you want to attend a meeting or Crowning. You're a part of our society now, so it's something that we should look out for on your behalf. Plus if you want to learn more, there might be times where you do need to go in with a group." she states. "And recruits aren't recruits forever. We'll get you all settled in the Custodians and see where you shine and see where we need to work." she admits with a smile.

"Well. Thank you very much. That's it, then. Please send the book to the Wayhouse. I mean, if you don't mind." He says as he sips from the tea before landing it aside."Thanks for this too. It is very good." Then the Fairest stands up and nods to Byron and smiles to the two women."It was a pleasure meeting you all. If you excuse me, I need to go." And them he calmly turns around and heads to the exit.

Byron offers, "Good luck.." to Oberon as the man works to take his leave, then settles back into his chair to refocus his attention on the interaction between the two women, a little more curious now about Max' reactions and what Ashe might be able to task her with or not. Idly, he crosses one of the items off on his little scribbled list.

"Nice seeing you again," Max tells Oberon, a friendly smile giving his way. She lifts her hand to wave him goodbye, her gaze lingering on him just momentarily as he heads on out. Returning her gaze to those remaining, those bright blue eyes of hers flit momentarily between Byron and Ashe before resting on the latter. "There's a few people I'd trust to take me to the other side. I'll keep that in mind about reasons to go over there. Though... why don't you guys do those things on this side if things are so dangerous over there?" she wonders, raising a brow slightly.

"We'll get it to you, thank you, Oberon." Ashe states with a smile to him. Then there's a wave as he departs. She then gives a look back to Max and she listens to her. "Having few you trust is understandable." she admits. She then chuckles, "Not all of the knowledge that we collect and document is on this side of the hedge. Sometimes we find old tomes, legends and things of that nature in the hedge and we have to check it out." she tells her.

Byron nods slightly at Ashe's answer, then adds a little, "Whether we like it or not, the Hedge is a part of what we are now. There are some things that absolutely have to be done in the Hedge. Its also a way to make sure mortals do not see what is being done. Those who have a good connection to the Hedge can use that to sense problems before they become more apparent out here, like the presence of something powerful coming this way."

"Oh I meant more the meetings and whatnot. I mean, this place seems pretty safe and you could put up security cameras and alarms and whatnot to make it safer," Max points out as an example. There's a pause before she adds, "And I'm sure you guys have all sorts of abilities. Better than mine. I'm sure if you set a date for a meeting, someone could glimpse into the future to see if something bad or not was going to happen," she suggests, perhaps hinting at her own abilities.

"Usually meetings are where I feel like holding them. We've also never had Fae-Touched or Enchanted Mortals in the Custodians. So it's never a thing we've had to cater to. I held the last meeting here. So if people are fine with this place, then we can just have them here." Ashe states easily. "I will be giving the recruits something to recover in the next few weeks. Nothing big and outside of the hedge. So you should attend if the time works for you." she tells her withh a smile.

Byron considers for a moment, then offers, "If you havent been out into it yet, perhaps we can work something out where you go out on a simple errand with a group of us, just so you can see how...odd...it gets. I know curiosity can be a powerful compulsion." He does smile a little at that, but it fades after a moment when his attention drags back to Ashe.

"Wherever you are most comfortable is the best place to hold any meetings," Max tells Ashe with an understanding smile. "I'll see how I can offer my abilities into finding this item. Just let me know when, what, and who else is going along and I'll do what I can to help," she says, grinning a bit more. The enchanted mortal always enjoys having an excuse to use her various psychic powers. Then she looks to Byron, her expression a curious one. "If you think that'd be good, then sure. Though, I wouldn't want to pull you guys away from your real work just to do something with me."

"Well get you in contact with the other Custodians and get you settled with a few of them that are around more than others. Probably wouldn't be bad to find someone inside to mentor you as well, but I'll figure that out." Ashe tells her with a smile. Then she listens to what Byron says and then Max's reply and she shakes her head, "You are part of our real work, don't think that you aren't. Byron is a Hedge Warden and it is his job to make sure people can cross safely and are competent of the dangers. You are a part of the group now. Not an outisder looking in." she tells Max seriously.

Max briefly watches Byron when he disappears to wherever, then easily shifts her focus back to Ashe. Her expression softens slightly for a moment before she gives a small nod. "Thanks," she says with genuine appreciation. "It might take me awhile to get used to that. I've never really been part of anything before. Not even a high school sports team or whatever," she tells Ashe, adding that last bit in with a playful smirk.

Ashe gives a look after Byron when his phone goes off and then turns back to Max and listens to her. She then gives her a smile, "It's a lot to get used to. It's a shock to go from real world to this. And part of our job is also to make sure you don't get taken. So if we come off like over protective parents sometimes, just know that it's because we care and not that we are trying to control anything." she points out. "I had asthma growing up, so I was left out a lot. It sucks. I don't want anyone to go through it." she chuckles. "Your first official task, is to deliver Oberon's book to him. You up for that?" she asks with a smile.

"We all have to look out for each other, right? I don't mind the protectiveness, because I'd do the same for you guys. I've already taken a bullet for you all," she says with friendly grin and a playful wink. Max chuckles the next moment and slowly moves to her feet. "I can handle that. Easy as a phone call or a check in at Hazel's restaurant," she tells her, nodding a few times. "Any message or anything you'd like to relay as well?" she offers. There's a pause before she adds, "Thanks, by the way. For letting me join the group. It was very nice to finally meet you."

"You did take a bullet for us and Aneira found one of the guys, so we'll probably be seeing if we can follow up on it." Ashe tells her with a chuckle. "As for bullets, don't take them for us, we heal easier than you." she admits with a bit of a laugh. Then she gets to her feet as well, "Just let him know we'd like the book back before the 10th of May. He can keep it for a month. It's a basic Hedge Fruit book." she admits. "And it was nice to meet you when you weren't bleeding out. I figured you were the one Byron had mentioned, but didn't want to tell him you'd been shot to death in front of me." she frowns. "You don't need to thank me, it's good to have you." she smiles to that. "I do need to go figure out what the big guy needs for dinner. Be safe in your travels, Max." she tells her with a little bow of her head.
