============-< << Dair-ya Creamery - Farmland >> >-=============Cows. So many cows. Black and white-splotched bovines dot the landscape to either side of a long, long gravel drive in all but the bitterest and worst of weather, the hundred ladies of the milking herd meandering in twice a day for handling in the parlor. Heifers and calves, not to mention bulls, are given their own space, and sturdy fences given a clean wash of white each Spring divide the farm's land into pastures for its herds. Nearest the road and extending out over a good 200 acres, tillable fields for growing forage and feed extend in neatly tended rows, bridle paths among them gated such that a rider can open them without dismounting. Set up on a slight rise away from the road, a rambling blue farmhouse sprawls in friendly disarray, stabling and outbuildings for the creamery kept near, but not too near the several homes built up over the property. The Pink Cow Run A track around a field, about a third of a mile. There's obstacles in forms of oldfashioned cow fences, a mud pit, and a swing over a little pond. Run and have fun! Guess The Weight There's a wooden cow about 3-feet long, 2 feet high. Painted pink, of course. Guess its weight! (Tip: It's between 15-25 pounds. The closest guess wins 10 free icecreams!) Dunk The Cow Some unfortunate soul (a member of the Fry family), sits on a board above a big tub of pink water. Throw at the target and dunk him! Other things:
Jack's here, of course. He wouldn't miss this. He is /not/ the one you can dunk in a pink bath - a younger cousin has to do that. Jack's already done that when he was a young one. It's basically a rite of passage, for the Frys! He's instead helping out over with the pony riding - he's brought Troll too, for those more daring bigger kids if they want to ride a larger horse, or even some adults who might want to give it a try. The White Witch is -not- dressed as a pink cow. She is wearing a blouse of white, sleeves long and fluttering with the breeze, paired with some dark jeans and boots. A red velvet scarf tied about her waist, hair long and unbound. Paired with her usual necklace, there's a charm with the goddess Hathor on it, because what else would she wear to an event like this? Avalon moves about the small crowd, taking the moment to adore a bovine, before she finds her way towards the horses, and Jack. "Had the feeling this would be the area I'd find you in," she notes, amused. Maggie's had her hands full with animals after the wildfire, so she's not really left the sanctuary unless it's been to get supplies. She's decided to come out for the Pink Cow Run though, she needed a new stuffed cow and so did Baloo. Her truck is parked off over with the rest of the vehicles and she heads the way of some of the vendors, until she sees the horses and familiar faces. There's a bit of a smile as she picks out a few stuffed animals and waits to get her change. Not interrupting the cousins at the moment. "Hey there," Jack says, upnodding at Avalon. He looks at her scarf and looks faintly smug - as smug as he would ever look, which isn't much at all. "Looks good," he notes, before giving a girl of about five a boost up on a shetland pony, letting one of the Fry teenagers lead the horse around. He glances to make sure everything is fine and orderly, then steps aside to talk with Avalon. "Want to ride?" he asks her, patting Troll. Goblin? He's nearby but he's being calm and just lazes near on the grass. He knows not to be too excited at big events with lots of kids. The observant ranger sees a familiar figure some distance away and he does raise a hand to wave at Maggie, shooting her a smile. One hand snakes down, and Avalon gives the end of the scarf a little waggle, making the tassels dance. "It is lovely. A nice addition to the collection," she muses with a grin. She watches Jack as he boosts that kid up, and then glances over to Troll. A soft chuckle comes, and at first, she looks a touch skeptical. "I don't know, Jack. I've not been on horseback since I was a few years older than that little one." Then, "But Troll -is- lovely. Maybe a little go 'round." Goblin gets an affectionate sound tossed his way, and Maggie gets a wave as well. Maggie gets her change and shoves it into her pocket with a smile to the man running the booth. She's now the proud owner of two gigantic pink cows. Don't judge! She waves one at Jack and Avalon, "It's so fluffy!" she laughs. Then she's heading that way, even as her words draw a few laughs from people around her. When she gets over to the horse area she gives a smile to them, "How are you guys doing?" she asks them. "You gotta pay up," Jack says, flashing a grin. "But it's only a dollar, so you will survive." It's all for charity, of course - there's a girl of about ten collecting the money (though kids under the age of 10 gets to ride for free.) He turns Troll around a bit to let Avalon up, and offers to boost her too. "Hey Maggie. Redecorating at home?" he teases the zoologist. "Pink's all the rage?" He studies her closely for a moment, then smiles. "I'm alright. Finally caught up to things after the fire. How's things on your end?" Avalon pulls a crisp one dollar bill out of her back pocket, to hand to the girl collecting the money. "That is -adorable-," she calls over to Maggie, as the cow of pink fluffy doom is waved towards them. Her spirits are bright, clearly. And she is unashamed in the fact that she takes the boost up from Jack. Running her hands along Troll's neck, making a soft cooing sound. "Augh, I feel so tall," she laughs. Maggie gives a smile to Jack, "Nah, Baloo likes to have stuffed animals so I was getting him a new one. And going to see if maybe if we can get the cub to take to one." she tells him. She doesn't look too well rested, but that's due to animals. "Pink's a good color." she chuckles. "And things are going alright, we just have a lot of animals coming and going at the moment. Then there's a grin to Avalon, "They do make us feel taller. Which is one of the bonuses." she admits. The horse named Troll is the most calm animal - he doesn't move an inch when she sits up, but does move his head up and down in appreciation from the touch of her hand on his neck. "Troll, move around in a circle nearby, would you?" Without even holding the reins, Jack moves along Troll as he starts walking, gesturing for Maggie to join if she wants to walk alongside. "I can carry one of those," he also offers, freeing her of one of the pink fluffy cows for a moment if she wants to. In front of them, kids dresed as pink cows run across their path, but Troll just stops momentarily and then wanders on. Nothing phases this horse, really. "Can I buy you ladies an icecream? Red's been busy making fresh batches." "Baloo?," Avalon asks from her position on high, continuing to give bits of affection to Troll. "Bumpier than I remember," she murmurs under her breath, but there's a happiness to it. A girl who didn't realize that she missed being on horseback, until it happened again. "Such a good boy," is crooned as the horse as he stops, rather than plow over the small child-cows. "Hopefully more of them going then coming, Maggie. And I'm not one to turn down ice cream, ever." Maggie joins them, she's not weird about things at least. She does give Jack a bit more space these days though, as is polite for a man who is dating someone else. She hands him one of the fluffy cows and there's a softer smile, "Thank you, Jack." she states to him. Then there's a grin, "I'll take ice cream. Don't have to twist my arm too much." she chuckles. Then she looks up to Avalon, "Baloo is a black bear that's a permanent resident at the sanctuary. He's sort of my shadow when I'm at home." she admits. "And thankfully yes, more going. Just having to work lots of overtime." she nods to this. Somewhere around here, there's a grey bird, whiskey jack, sitting on a fence or on a roof top - Fairy is here too, but she blends in. The chirping sound might be recognized by Maggie however, as the bird swoops overhead briefly, in greeting. "I think Maggie has magical powers - animals heals from her touch," Jack says simply. He's only half-joking, the warm look at Maggie suggesting he's regarding her with much fondness. "I should come over and meet Baloo properly, rather than just waving from a distance. Most of my bear encounters have been more 'Please don't hurt me'-kinds," he jokes. At the ice cream stand, he purchases three scoops each for them both, and for himself; Neruda - a salt rose taste. Milton - rosepetal lemonate with candied bits of rosepetal and lemon zest. And an african violet. Apparently, the theme is floral and poets, this time around. He'll help Avalon down from the horse if she wants, but she can eat it up there too. "I always am suspicious of Red's icecream - and I /always/ gets pleasantly surprised. That woman can make icecream out of anything and make it taste great." "I'll have to remember that, should I come across any unfortunate creatures," Avalon says, looking quite pleased at her current seating arrangement. She's not getting off of Troll just yet. Five more minutes, Dad! "A black bear? Oh my. Gorgeous things. Big. More chill than most bears, from what I've heard. Still, I'm only -so- good at talking my way out of things with animals." She grins, taking the ice cream when it's offered up to her. "I'm in the same boat," she chuckles. "But I've yet to try anything at the shop that hasn't at least been interesting. How's Syl doing, Jack? Haven't seen her since the rain." Maggie gives a bit of a smile when Fairy does her fly by, "I'm glad she's still doing nicely." she tells Jack. "And sure, Baloo is always up for meeting properly. I'm sure the cub would like to see new faces as well." she admits. She takes her ice cream and there's a happy smile. It's a bit refreshing to get out. "Red seems to be amazing with a lot of things." she admits. Then she gives a look to Avalon and a grin, "Yeah, he's very chill, which is surprising given his origins, but he's been in good hands for a long time." she nods to that. Trying out the icecream, Jack's expression is first dubious, then he tilts his head, tastes some more - and decides he likes it. Especially the one with lemon in it. Troll leans in to sniff it but tosses his head - he's not impressed, at all. "Hey, don't slobber all over my ice cream you big Troll," Jack says and mock-glares at the horse. Troll? He pulls his upper lip up and nods a few times, fast - like he's laughing. There's a few laughs from the crowd too. If Jack wanted, he could put up a whole animal show. "What about dunking my cousin?" he suggests, pointing over to that area. "He's been dry for over an hour now. People got bad aim. How's your aim?" For a few minutes, Avalon gets to live out the dream of countless little girls - sitting on a nice horse, eating ice cream. All that's missing is a flowy dress. But the Witch looks quite pleased, nonetheless. "I'm going to have to start bringing you treats, too," she murmurs, conspiratorially, to Troll. "It always amazes me, how many second chances animals are willing to give." She takes that offered hand down from Jack at that point, though there's a definite chance that this won't be her last time going for a ride. There are more dollar bills shoved in her back pocket, after all. "I can hit the broad side of a barn on a good day." Maggie gives a bit of a laugh when Troll starts to eat Jack's ice cream, "Well, if he didn't get it, Goblin would." she teases him gently. Then there's a look to the dunk tank and a bit of pondering. "He looks a bit warm. Maybe he could use to take a dip?" she looks to Jack and Avalon. "And animals seem to be like humans in that regard. No matter how many times they are kicked, burned or beaten, they will always be willing to give someone a chance until it's just too many taken." the woman admits. "Lets go dunk your cousin." she adds shortly after that. Jack's cousin, seeing that the ranger is looking his way, looks rather panicky. He's dressed in white - but the water underneath him is very, very pink. He's not fallen in, yet. But, seeing that broad grin on Jack's face, and the two determined women moving alongside, he looks worried. "Oh yeah, let's go make Jimmy pink," he says and almost rubs his hands - except he's still eating icecream. He murmurs something to Troll, who nods a few times and then the horse trundles back to the pony riding area to where Goblin is still lazing. This event actually costs a whole 2 dollars. Torturing someone costs more! -> >> Avalon to Here << <-============================================Rolled 5 Successes for an exceptional success. < 3 4 5 8 10 10 10 10 > ===========================-> >> Strength + Athletics [No Flags] << <-What's an extra dollar to torment a Fry? Even for Avalon, it's totally worth it. "Hey, Jimmy!", the witch calls out cheerfully. "You look like you've had -far- too dull a stint at this event." She grins, and it's a cheeky thing. She forks over her two bucks, and holds her ice cream out to Jack for the holding. Pack mule, poor Jack. "This is going to be hysterical, I'm awful at this," she whispers to her two companions. Of course, sometimes a witch gets lucky. Really lucky. And when Av takes the ball, winds up, and throws? She looks downright professional. SMACK. SPLOOOSH. There goes poor Jimmy. Jack is happy to be pack-mule - he stands aside. Watches his cousin realise, a split of a second before he does fall in, that he will become pink. SPLASH! Jimmy, who might be 16 or so, goes down into the large tub - there's a collective cheer at Avalon. Spluttering, Jimmy comes back up and climbs out, trying to shake some of that paint stained water off. His white outfit is now... pink. So is his hair and skin. "Get back up!" Jack tells him, grinning madly. The boy sighs, and climbs back up, resetting the mechanism. Eyeing Maggie warily. -> >> Maggie to Here << <-============================================Rolled 6 Successes for an exceptional success. < 1 3 3 4 4 6 6 7 8 8 8 9 10 10 > ====================-> >> Strength + Athletics.Adroitness [Rote] << <-Maggie gives a laugh when Avalon is NOT bad at hitting the target, "Very well done." she tells her. Then she picks up a ball and there's a bit of a hmmm. "Well, here goes nothing." she tells Jack and Avalon. She steps up and then winds up the pitch like someone who played baseball before and then there's a lightning fast throw as the ball slams into the target. DING! Poor Jimmy! And that SPLASH is just as big as the former one - the people close gets sprayed with pink water. Jack? He laughs outright at his cousin who once more splutters and crawls out of the giant tub. "I'm not even going to try, I can't ever upstage you two," the ranger says, handing back icecreams. There's applauds from the crowd too and now many more come in wanting to give it a go - the two women made it look easy! Poor Jimmy. At least this will make a lot of money, for charity. Who knows how long poor Jimmy will be stained pink. Aside from Jack, who has done his time in the dunk tank many years ago. Avalon takes her ice cream back, beaming a smile. "You too, Maggie." She glances upwards, and seems to consider the sky for a moment. "I should be headed off, though. A witch's work is never done. It was good to see you again," offered to Maggie. Jack, he gets a little squeeze of the arm. "And I'll see you 'round, Jack. Thanks, again, for the ice cream." Bright flash of a smile, and then she's meandering off, that-a-way. "That was fun." Maggie states as she takes her ice cream back. Finishing it off, she finding a container to dispose of it in. There's a smile and a wave to Avalaon when she's heading out, "It was good to see you as well." she admits. Then there's a look back to Jack and a smile, "So how have you been? Girlfriend treating you alright?" she asks him as she walks along. "Later, Av! See you soon, and thanks for coming," Jack tells Avalon before she leaves. He steps aside to leave room for the dunking-throwing - leaving some privacy to talk to Maggie while they finish their icecream. He squints at Maggie, tilting his head - as if he has to consider this question. "Yeah. It's a bit complicated." That is said with a bit of a confused air, as if he isn't sure what's going on himself. "So much weird shit happening, lately." Maggie gives a bit of a look to him, "That's unfortunate. I hope it doesn't stay complicated for long." she tells him. She was sincere about it as well. "Anything I can help with? What sort of weird shit?" she asks him quietly as she looks around. "Yeah... I'm not sure," Jack admits, looking a bit unsure whether he should talk about it. "Sorry. I guess it's a bit personal, between me and Zephyr." He smiles, and throws away the empty tub into a bin. "You know about... all the strange people living around here? You heard about it, right?" Maggie gives him a smile, "I'm not going to pry into your relationship. If you want to confide that's fine, but I won't force anything." she admits. Then she quirks an eyebrow up at him, "Strange people. Like...the ones with the ones that get taken?" she asks him. Jack's gaze turns a bit sharper, at that; he didn't expect that outright. "Yeah," he says, raising an eyebrow. "Them." There's a capital T in that word, one can tell. His voice is lowered, cause there's people milling about, even if they stand a bit to the side - he glances about to make sure no prying ears come near. "They sure are up in every business, aren't they?" he says, giving her a careful look, at that. Maggie gives him a look, like she wants to say something, but she doesn't for a moment. There's a bit of a sigh, "Don't get too mixed up in things, Jack. You don't need to get drug off or worse." she tells him. "And sometimes they are. Yeah. Most of Tamarack Falls has them." she chuckles. "Don't you start too, now," Jack grumps goodnaturedly, giving her a grin. "The more people tell me that, the more eager I get to jump into things." It's true - he just doesn't know when to quit, half the time. Or back down. "Don't worry, nobody's gonna drag me off anywhere." He sounds way too confident for his own good. "Speaking of weird stuff... you know, there's some people I'd like you to meet. People like you and me. We got a bit of a... organisation going. I guess you could say. We keep it on the down-low. Any interest?" "I said don't get TOO mixed up in things is all. I didn't tell you that you can't." Maggie tells him. "I've been to that place...you don't want to go..." she tells him as she hugs both of the cows to her chest for a moment. Then there's a look to him, "Let me think on it? I'm already a member of one organization, so want to make sure it doesn't overlap or mess with things." she admits to him. "I should probably get going. Don't want to leave people up at the house too long." she smiles to him. "Well, it depends - but mostly, we try to take care of others such like us, and help each other control it and things like that," Jack says simply. He raises an eyebrow again and looks about ready to ask her many questions about 'that' place - but holds back, for now. "Alright, it was really nice seeing you Maggie," he says, eyes softening. "Take care of yourself." |
