After Sara's bloody adventure in the Hedge the night before - of which she shall say no more to anyone ever - she decides she needs a drink. Having recently turned twenty-one, it still has a novelty appeal for the Fry woman. But where to go? Desrochers Pub of course. Local families support each other. Sara slips inside, glancing around the dimly lit room before heading straight to the bar. A free stool is quickly claimed before she waves to the barkeep, even getting out her ID in anticipation of being asked to prove her age...again. It is a clear summer night so she's gone with the jeans and t-shirt look under a black leather jacket. She didn't come all the way into the city very often, but when she -was- here this late? Of course the family bar was the place to go. There were always other options, but why? Saturna was just arriving now, pale dreadlocks braided back to keep them out of her face. She's dressed much the same as Sara: jeans, t-shirt and a dark blue zip-up hoodie, left unzipped. Sara is flashing her ID at the barman, as expected, as Saturna arrives. "Beer" she orders, something simple to begin with, before slipping her wallet back in her jacket's inner pocket. Her eyes flick around the bar once more and fall upon Saturna. Dreadlocks is not something you see a lot of in Vermont...especially on a white woman. "Love the hair" Sara offers with a smile but fully expecting that Saturna has people to meet. She up-nods the Bartender with a bright smile, making her way towards the bar with an easy saunter. "IPA, please." With a name like 'I Feel Hoppy', they had to have good IPAs! "Oh, thanks!" The bright smile is turned towards Sara, now, and she deliberately picks a stool only one down from her. "How's it going?" "Great" Sara replies with a warm, winsome smile. "Thought I'd come out and party with all my friends." She glances at the empty space around her before explaining the lack of them with, "I'm new in town." Sara offers her hand to the other woman. "Sara Fry. Pleased to meet you. How long have you been working on it?" she asks with a nod to the hair. Saturna can't help but laugh at that. "Same, on both the friends and the newness. I suppose I've been here for the better part of a month now, though. I'm Saturna Desrochers, from the Canadian branch of the family." She lifts a hand to touch her hair, pulling the braid over her shoulder to look at it. "A few years, now." "Desrocher? Like the bar we're sitting in? Do you get free drinks? Would you like a long lost sister for the evening so she can have free drinks too?" Sara teases with a grin. "Great name too. I congratulate your parents...if they came up with it. I'm one of the Boston Frys but I visited here every now and then growing up." She screws up her face a little. "Would it be too weird to ask if I could touch your hair?" "Ah, yeah. I don't have anything to do with the brewery or bar, though. I'm more on the carpentry side of the family." She grins, not even hiding the lack of comment on free drinks or long-lost sisters. "My grandmother loved to stargaze. Cassiopeia was also on the list." She sips her beer, giving a one-shouldered shrug. "A bit weird, but I don't mind." "Well, I wouldn't be me if people didn't think I was a little weird" Sara smiles before reaching out to touch the hair...only for a moment. "That's pretty cool." She brings her hand back to her lap. "Sorry, no more weird" she winks. "Carpentry? Cool. Furniture or more specific things? I mean like sculptures or...toys even? And Cassiopeia is a cool name too, shame most people would break it down to Cassie." A pause. "You may have noticed I talk a lot." "Normal is overrated." Firmly said, still with a bit of a smile. "I do.. just about anything, really. I worked for a construction company back home, but I really like smaller projects like furniture and carving." She pauses, tilting her head a little. "I haven't tried making toys. There's never really been a whole lot of children around me." Sara might like to babble but she's not stupid. She can see there is pain there and noticed the reticence to even joke about family. "You okay?" she asks with a surprisingly concerned tone for someone she's just met. "I think there's a bit of pain behind your words. If you want to talk about it..." She gestures to the world around them. "We're in a bar. Perfect place to get it off your chest." A pause. "Or I could be misreading everything and being weird again" she smiles. Saturna shakes her head a bit. "It's nothing too bad. I lost my grandpa a few months ago. We were close." Not long before she moved here, really. "None of my brothers have children yet, either." "I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather" Sara offers sincerely. "It sounds like I made a mountain out of a molehill. Sorry about that. I have twins, niece and a nephew, and I work in a toy shop so I'm surrounded by them. And I'm a cheap babysitter. Too cheap...I really need to up my rates." Their drinks arrive at last and Sara pays for both of them. "I insist" she informs Saturna before she can say anything. Sara offers up her bottle for a toast. "To new friendships? And business opportunities...if you're interested." Saturna says, "Thanks." Her smile is sincere, a little nod given to the condolences. "It's alright. I still get a bit gloomy about it, so I can understand the concern." She shifts, turning a little more towards Sara. "Working in a toy store must be fun! If you tell me what sorts of toya y" (Herrrrrrrrp) "..toys you want, I could make a few." "That was the business opportunity I was proposing to toast" Sara winks while lowering her drink. "Maybe you could make some toys we could sell through the shop? My brother-in-law owns it and he's really into handcrafted toys and games for children. Not all that high tech stuff." Any noises Saturna makes are politely ignored...even if it makes Sara giggle inside. She downs a mouthful of her own beer. "Sounds like something we should try. Ooh...do you think you could carve a little unicorn?" A hearty mouthful of beer is downed, her glass settling back onto the bar top. "I used to have a toy my grandpa made. It was just a duck, but it came apart like puzzle pieces. I could make a few of those, and.. yeah. Unicorns and dragons and things." "Sounds awesome" Sara grins happily. "Your grandpa sounds like a really cool guy. And clever too. I'll let Raymond, that's my brother-in-law, no. Would you prefer to work on commission or just have us buy them outright to sell? I mean, assuming Raymond goes for it and they're as cool as I know they will be." She downs some more beer. "Mmm...needed that. The designs we'll leave in your capable hands of course." Saturna says, "Either way works for me, really. Maybe see what he'd prefer? I totally understand if he wants to go with commission while we figure out if they'll sell or not." She drinks more beer as well. "I could probably whip something up and stop by the shop later this week?" "Perfect" Sara nods. "I'll warn Grumpy Pants you're coming. Don't tell him I called him that. So you've come here to find the rest of your family? That's nice. Sort of what I did too. Oh, wait, you said you had brothers. They must have come with you. Are they nice?" Saturna says, "Don't call Raymond 'Grumpy Pants'. Got it." A firm nod, as if she really did need that mental note. "I wanted to get to know more of the family, yeah. My brothers are all home in Canada, actually. I came alone." "Oh...so they're probably great brothers. They stayed at home" Sara giggles before draining her drink. "I better get going. It was lovely to meet you, Saturna. I still love the hair." She slides off the stool while fishing for a card in her jacket. It is a card for the toy shop and she quickly scribbles her own number on the back before handing it over. "Here you go. Why don't you give me a call sometime...professionally or personally. We can go out with all our friends again." Saturna laughs, finishing off her beer. "They're pretty good, as far as brothers go." She stands as well, taking the card and pulling put her phone to send a quick text of her name to Sara. "For sure! We should definitely do this again. Have a great night!" |
