Watchers

They are Oneiromancers and Seers, the guardians of the skein, walkers in time. They are also often a bit cracked, but that can't be held against them; visions of the future and the eccentricities of dreams are enough to addle even the strongest wills.

While the Harvestmen protect the Freehold from physical threats, and the Greenies heal the body, the Watchers are both guardian and healer of the dreaming mind. Let the Blackbird Bishops heal the waking; the poisonings and invasive presence of the Fae, their servants and deciphering the tangled futures ahead are for the Watchers.

History

Founded shortly after the Freehold's creation and inspired by a particularly nasty piece of Loyalist handiwork, the Watchers have had a relatively uneventful history.

As of September 2016, they have yet to face their first true challenge.

Requirements to Join

Recruits are expected to have a working knowledge of basic oneiromancy, or some variant of a prophetic gift. These requirements may be satisfied by tinkering with Changelings' innate capacities, knowing the Contracts of Dream or Omen, certain Psychic gifts or Thaumaturgical abilities.

Membership is not exclusive to Changelings. Any fully pledged member of the Freehold may join.

Rank Structure

Watcher-Elect

Influence: 5

The Watcher-Elect is responsible for the leadership and coordination of all other Watchers, and holds a seat upon the Freehold Council. He or she is responsible for hosting monthly meetings, and for disseminating and managing new information, policies, promotions and disciplinary action.

OOCly, they are given Head powers over the Watchers +faction.

The Elect's authority, given the frequent fluctuations of sanity involved in prophecy, seldom lingers on the shoulders of truly powerful Seers or Oneiropomps; truth told, the bureaucracy and cat-herding tends to end up on whoever is willing to do the task and put themselves up for election. It has one of the highest turnover rates in the entire Freehold.

Watcher

Influence: 2, Influence: 3, Influence: 4

There is very little formal rank structure within the group, but it is common knowledge that the greater a prophet you are, the better you can withstand the horrors of others' dreams and guard them from the Kindly Ones' predations, the more influence you hold over others.

Full Watchers are warriors in their own right, manipulating the skein and teasing out secrets of the future to provide a more ephemeral guard for the Freehold's members. Non-members may hire them, but there is always a price.

Freshly raised from Recruit status, you will be Influence 2. You are still in training, but you are given the respect of a full member.
Influence 3 is the result of effort and trust. You have been around for a season or more, you know how things work, and you have the pull to prove it.
Influence 4 is harder to achieve, and harder to maintain. You are an active mentor, committing time and energy to training others, or perhaps you are a liaison between groups, or the personal dream-walker of a king.

Recruit

Influence: 1

You either are or you aren't an Oneiropomp. You either are or you aren't a Seer. There is no halfway point, and no one without at least a small gift is eligible to become a recruit. Recruits' gifts and skills, whatever they may be, are honed and trained by full Watchers, and at the end of a month's time, if your mentor(s) believe you are ready for the pressure, you will be promoted to full Watcher status.
