Recruits are the lowest rank of Waykeeper, and must be trained for a minimum of one season under the guidance of a mentor (or mentors).  New Waykeepers are promoted during the Crowning ceremony, introduced to the Freehold and, officially, to their new responsibilities.  Before a recruit may be promoted, s/he must have learned the Goblin Contract of Hospitality's Hold and gained experience in its use through at least a month's practice.  This typically means being on duty at the Wayhouse as the official 'host' with one's mentor as a watcher, and may certainly be done "off screen," so to speak.

Laws of Hospitality
Accepted throughout the world, with local variation, the heart of Hospitality is reciprocity. As a guest, you respect the host, and the host respects you in turn.
As a host, the Wayhouse promises to:
  • Be courteous to guests, offering shelter, rest and a good meal.
  • Be generous without stinting. We all have bad days. Don't scorn someone for needing charity.
  • Do no harm to guests without their knowing permission.
  • Do no harm to guests' belongings, materially or otherwise, while on the premises. Should damages be incurred, the person acting as host must offer recompense.
