"WHY GOD?!"

Participants

Eckhart, Ashe

2017.10.15

Eckhart seeks out Ashe to join the Custodians and she investigates the cube he has.

Location

The Broken Hearth

It's nearing the end of the day for some and the middle of the day for others. Ashe had been at Stoneheart for most of the day. Between trying to get things sorted with the Library and talking over repairs to the Broken Hearth with Donald there was a lot for the Monarch to do. And right now the Shadowsoul is standing and looking up at something that's looking down into the room. "One more." she states and then there's the corpse of a hedge bunny tossed up to whatever she is talking to.

That something happens to be a rather large fae mount. The bat like creatures ears sticking straight up and the split mandible is dripping blood from the fresh hedge bunny that it's just eaten. Because they've gotta eat to, right? http://tinyurl.com/ydcu8oh7

Eckhart was already in Stoneheart, although its rather easy to miss him thanks to the large size of the place. He was out near the entrance to the Autumn court's hollow. It wasn't until the sound of the overlarge carcass being tossed around echoed far enough that he was roused from his own distractions. He arrives on the scene, an odd Rubik's cube in hand. He's dressed in jeans, a black sweater covered in symbols of Halloween, and trudges about in dirtied tennis shoes. "'Scuse me," he calls over to Ashe, "But, um, what exactly is that?" The question comes with him pointing off to the dead hedge hare.

Ashe gives a look over when she hears the voice and there's a big smile, it's hard to tell when she's smiling given the stitches. "Hello." she waves. She holds up another dead hare and wiggles it a little, "I call them bunbuns, but I think they're just hedge rabbits of some sort. They've got really long tails like a mouse so some call them Mabbits." she admits. "Apollyon loves them. So I try to keep them stocked up. Or he tries to eat Uvall." she chuckles. When she mentions trying to eat Uvall theres a bat that clambers up on the antlers on her crown, "The big savage does!" he squeaks. "Anything we can do for you? We weren't causing too much racket were we?" she asks Eckhart.

Eckhart shakes his head, and offers up a facsimile of a smile in an attempt to show some manner of kindness. "Not a bother at all," he says with a quick glance up to the bat, and then back to the Shadowsoul. "Looking for the Queen and lady that's over the Custodians. Ashley Whelan, I think it was. Told me she was about yea tall," he notes with his hand stopping somewhere around six feet, "and ready to rip anybody's head off."

Ashe gives a nod to that when he tells her they aren't a bother, "Good, good." she states. Then she listens and there's an amused look at the description and the name before she chuckles, "It's just Ashe, like from Evil Dead and Army of Darkness. Or the tree. And the Crown might make me that tall. And I tend to just shoot people. Apollyon bites people though." she points up to the fae mount. "What can I help you with?" she asks as she motions him forward. "Come on up and have a seat. No reason to stand really." she admits.

Eckhart's gaze flits from Ashe to the crown, and then to his sneakers. He shakes his head then, and brings his hands to his back. "Thanks, but no thanks. I've sat down long enough that I could do with some stretching. that's if you don't mind it, of course. I've been meaning to talk to you about the Custodians."

Ashe gives a nod to that, "It's no problem to that, I understand not wanting to sit just as well." she tells him. Then the Shadowsoul gives him a smile at the mention of the Custodians, "Ah, ask away, I'm always willing to talk about them." she tells him. While they talk, Uvall comes teetering down to her shoulder to watch with beedy umber eyes. Because he's nosy.

"Simple really, and I appreciate something simple in the last couple of days." He clears his throat, and steals a glance up at Uvall for a moment. The bat has a bit more of his attention now. "I wanted to join the Custodians. Speaking honestly, I see it as a chance to learn something more. Of the freehold and whatever the Custodians have to offer. I plan to do the same, adding what I can and know along with whatever I find in the local hedge belonging to the Custodians."

Ashe gives a gentle nod to that, "Simple is a nice change of pace given the last couple of days. I can appreciate that." she agrees. Then she stands quietly as he speaks and when he's done there's that stitched smile again, "That is a simple enough thing to do, Eckhart." she tells him. "We will have a meeting coming up over the next few weeks, but, I'll go ahead and announce you as a recruit to the group as a whole." she explains.

"I appreciate it. Speaking of things I've found." Eckhart returns one of his hands to the front, the one with the puzzle box. The thing looks like a Rubik's cubes, but if the other Changeling puts her hands on it she'll see that the colors shift and darken or brighten in hue with every turn. "I can't quite tell /what/ this does, but the most I can wager is that it offers sight beyond sight. Or something. Just make sure you're not over 100 degrees or under 40 degrees while holding it. It tends to make things worse."

"It's no problem." Ashe tells him. Then she looks curious as she listens to him and her black and silver eyes shift down to the Rubik's looking cube and she nods to that. "It's pretty." she tells him as she reaches out to touch it cautiously. Because she's an Autumn, of course she's going to touch it. "I could probably tell you what it does." she states. "Or well...if my contracts agree with me today after the Fallen Fair yesterday." she muses.

Eckhart nods his head, and takes a step back. More so to give Ashe her own bit of room. "Be my guest. The most I could potentially do is put it somewhere and hide it for a while. WHich can go well or very poorly depending on the time of day and location. There's also the problem of differing stars aligning, but that isn't important for now." He stops, gaze briefly going upwards. "I don't think so, at least."

Ashe takes the cube and gives a nod to Eckhart, and the silver floods her eyes for a moment, "Lets see what it does and then it'll be easier to see where to put it...or bury it if need be." the Shadowsoul chuckles. Then she looks to the cube and focuses on it, tilting it this way and that in the light as she examines it. Then she looks up, "Hopefully we don't summon any elder gods or anything." she muses.

As her fingers move over the cube its colors change. Her curiosity reveals that the item does indeed do what Eckhart said it does. It changes the senses. However, it gives a mild case of synthesia. Numbers feel like bursts of wind with a greater feeling of a gale at higher numbers, colors leave a taste on the tongue, each and every letter is colored one way or another, and whispers on the wind smell like freshly cooked meat.

Eckhart, for his part, looks on with his crimson, glowing gaze. His brow quirks as the Fairest's scrutiny, but he remains silent for the time being. It's only when it appears that she's done that he speaks up. "If you don't mind, though, could you give me any details you discover? I'd love to add more to the Pillar's libraries and my personal research notes."

Ashe looks down when the box shows more of the things that it can do. When the Synthesia hits the Shadowsoul gets a bit wide eyed as she's never experienced it before, "That's interesting!" she states excitedly. Then she looks to him and there's a nod. "It's peculiar." she states. "It's able to produce the effects of Synesthesia. Numbers feel like bursts of wind...colors leave a taste on the tongue." she smacks her lips. Then she laughs, "Sorry, the whispers on the wind smell like freshly cooked meat. Very odd." she admits.

And it's almost with spooky reflexes that Ashe manages to bend down and pick up a bunny to give to the large bat that tries to chomp down on when she mentions food, "Nothing was moving, silly." she states.

Eckhart nods slowly to that, and motions to the object. "It's yours and the Custodians to do with as you wish. I prefer not to keep any trinkets on me since I've enough souvenirs from the hedge to last me another few decades." To that end he lifts his left hand. Unlike the rest of him it appears to be made of thorn and thisle bound into a hand, and as he lifts it she can see one of his red eyes looking through a clean, perfect circle going through the middle. "That aside," he notes when dropping his hand, "I do wonder, now, what manner of magicks the people here are used to."

Ashe gives a nod to that, "I'll place it in the library in the restricted section for the moment with an entry of what it does." she tells him. "Does it have a name?" she asks him. "The kind that goes boom most of the time." she chuckles to that. "Right now we've got Cybernetically enhanced Briarwolves in the hedge that explode when you kill them. Not to mention titles being found and things." she shakes her head.

"I'd appreciate it, and the name sounded like Sight Beyond Sight. That may have been a mistranslation, but you can always..." Eckhart stops, blinking several times over. He looks around for a moment at the various Lost and hobs gathered in Stoneheart, and then looks back to Ashe. "Cybernetically enhanced? As in robot? As in someone made briar wolves stronger?" He nods his head in acceptance, and suddenly shouts, "Why the fuck why!?"

Ashe listens to him and then gives a smile, "I'll put it in under that name then." she tells him. There's a bit of a look to the others and then back to Eckhart. When he shouts suddenly she doesn't flinch, but she does agree with his shouting, "I have the corpse of one from Rowan if you'd like to take a look at it sometime? I have no idea what's going on with the army, but, we've been looking into them. I'm waiting for reports back on them at the moment as it is." she frowns.

"Yes, I'd like to look it over if you don't mind. I could potentially perform an autopsy if the tools are available as I don't have such things with me. Those were left in Nebraska, and that is rather sticky situation I wouldn't like to revisit for a couple of decades." A nervous chuckle follows, and then he frowns along wit hher. "Although I wasn't expecting the word army."

"We can get you the tools set up. That's no problem." Ashe tells him. "I'd like someone to help out with it. Hopefully this thing won't explode like it does when they die." she states. "There's a bunch of hobs and things gathering under the banner of something called 'Mother' and not the local Gentry the Mother Who Feeds. So it's a weird situation. Still figuring it out." she admits. "I can get the time and address to you soon though, Eckhart." she offers. "For now, I have to get home as my husband doesn't know how to cook and I'd rather he not burn the building down." she chuckles as she prepares to leave. "And thank you for this." she tells him.

Eckhart gives a slight bow at the waist. "It was a pleasure meeting you, Queen Ashe. However, I-" He's blinking like mad again, and shaking his head. "Right. Of course they explode. They can't just leave a bottle of whiskey and some cotton candy. It has to be explosions. I'll- I'll make sure to take whatever help you can give either way. Good day to you."
