Maggie Locklear, Jack Fry

23 May, 2018

Jack goes to pick up Fairy, the bird, from Maggie's sanctuary. You know that guy, in the TV shows and that girl, in the same show, that you always think 'They fit PERFECTLY together, why don't they ever become a couple?' Yeah, like that.

Location

======-< << Locklear Animal Sanctuary - Open Acreage >> >-======

Locklear Animal Sanctuary sits on a good sixty acres of land. Some of it is woodlands given the nature of the place. There are large enclosures on the property, most for larger animals that the owner takes in when they need rehabilitation. There are three main out buildings which consist of the barn, guest house and main house.

To the side of the barn there is a large area where horses can be ridden and trained. There are also trails that lead from the barn and out throughout the property for the horses to travel. There are also paths that lead to the main buildings.

Jack has been around a few quick times, or called and texted - he's kept an eye on Fairy. But during the wildfire, all he sent was a text explaining how busy he was, but that he'd be coming by soon as it was all over. And now, here he is - the fire stopped yesterday. He looks rested, tanned and content with life, dressed in civilian clothing as he parks the car and him and Goblin both leave it, looking around to see if Maggie is about somewhere.

Maggie had to break off from the group over the weekend and go to save some other animals. So it left her with little time to do much else but take care of the animals that were being funneled into the sanctuary. She returned Jack's texts and had sent her own, checking in on him to make sure he wasn't running himself into the ground. When he arrives, she's waiting for him. She looks a bit tired, but that's because there's been an influx of animals. But she's all smiles for the two visitors, "Hey guys." she waves.

"Hey Maggie," Jack says, eyes warming up when walking over to her. "I guess your work isn't over by far, is it," he says, a hint of concern. "Sylvana's really good with animals, I'm sure she'd love to help out - and I'll do what I can, too," he promises. Goblin runs over and does his usual joyful excited greeting of Maggie, licking her hands and being all wriggly against her legs. "You alright there?"

Maggie gives a chuckle, "We've got a lot of injured here and the vets staying in the guest house for the time being." she tells him. There's a look to him when he mentions Sylvana, "I was surprised that you had a daughter." she admits. "And you need to get rest for the next few days. None of this trying to take care of everything." she shakes her head. Then she reaches down to scritch Goblin, "Hello handsome. You're all wiggly today." she laughs.

"I'm also surprised I have a daughter. She showed up a few weeks ago - didn't know I was a father until then," Jack admits, grinning lopsidedly. He's already starting to wander slowly towards the bird enclosures, eager to see the little whiskey jack. He waves a hand in a dismissive gesture. "I'm fine - I've slept, I've had food - I'm starting to itch at doing things again. However, I've promised to help Syl at her house too, so yeah... Maybe I shouldn't promise too much," he admits. Goblin gives Maggie a few last licks, then settles in to walk alongside her and Jack. The ranger glances thoughtfully at the woman, as if considering something. "You doing alright financially around here?"

"Well, that's a shock." Maggie tells him with a laugh. "She seems to be taking after you though." she adds to that as she walks with him. Then there's a smile, "You've no real reason to promise me things." she tells him as she looks to the bird enclosures. "And family comes first." she admits. Then there's a look to Jack when he asks about finances, "So, I don't usually bring this up, but my moms an heiress, so money is not an issue." she tells him. But the subject changes, "Fairy is so ready to get going. And she's happy you're doing it." she states.

"That explains the lack of bills sent my way," Jack says, smiling her way. He doesn't insist in paying - he doesn't make loads of money, after all. So, he's thankful about everything, his gaze warm. "Yeah... Sylvana is very good with animals." He doesn't elaborate, but Maggie couldn't really misunderstand what he said back there up in the forest, during the fire. When everything was stressful and they had to hurry. Wandering near the enclosures now, his step gets a bit more quick. "So she's alright? I... am actually hoping she might want to stay with me," he admits.

"I wasn't going to send the bills to you even if I wasn't financially well off." Maggie shakes her head at him. "It's not good to send bills to people doing deeds." she smiles to him. Then there's a look to him, "She possessed that bear. I'd say she's probably wonderful with them." she winks at him. Then they are at Fairy's enclosure and the whisky jack is all happy. "Oh I'd say she's more than alright. And I'm sure she'd be fine with staying with you. I mean...most girls in their right mind would." she muses.

Jack isn't worried about opening the enclosure and reach inside for Fairy, not this time. The bird hops up onto his hand as he takes her outside and ruffles her feathers and chirps joyfully. "Hey, I've missed you too." He doesn't ask the bird anyhthing else for now, instead carefully petting her head with a finger, stroking the soft feathers. He looks up, squinting at Maggie and simply nods; Sylvana DID possess that bear. "You say that - but girlfriends leave me," he says with a grimace. "Because I put work and animals ahead of them." He studies Maggie closely, and admits; "I am sort of dating someone though. I don't know how serious it'll be. Red might be all upset - she did try to set us up, didn't she?"

Maggie just looks to Jack for a moment and there's a soft 'ah'. "I guess I missed my chance." she states with a chuckle. "I...just don't really jump on people the moment I meet them. I like to get to know them." she tells him in a quiet tone. "And she knew I liked you, yeah. No idea why she'd be upset though. Not like she knew you were dating someone." she smiles to him.

Jack looks rather surprised. And then he looks away, focusing on the bird - he doesn't know what to say, now. "Well," he says finally, looking back at her with a wry smile. "Well, shit." He still isn't sure what to say - he seems half baffled, half confused. And slightly awkward. "I'm sorry. I like you too... And I didn't mean to, you know." He sets Fairy onto his shoulder - the bird shows no intention of flying away. Not yet anyway. "Anyway, you deserve someone better, trust me."

Maggie gives him a bit of a smile, "Hey, it's alright. I'm...used to it. Nothing for you to be sorry about." she admits. "Didn't mean to what? Not like you needed to disclose that you were dating someone. I'm sorry that Red had me up for dinner and made things awkward." she tells him with an apologetic look. Then there's a quirk of her eyebrow, "Someone better?" she shakes her head. "You don't really know that." she chuckles. "But, it's nothing to argue over." she admits.

THe frown remains on Jack's forhead. "It wasn't awkward. It was great," Jack says firmly. "You're great." He smiles a genuinely warm smile her way. "I won't disappear - I'm always gonna be around. Unless you want me to not be around, of course." He sighs. He's not very good at this, and he knows it. "Fuck, I just don't want things to be all weird. Will it?" Jack adds; "I wasn't dating anyone, at that dinner. It's recent."

Maggie really doesn't know what to say for a moment, "I'm glad it was great." she tells him. "And no, you're always welcome here." she admits. "Just...wish I'd known that I needed to speak up." she states in a soft tone. "Nothing weird." she shakes her head. Then there's a look to him, "Recently? Well...that makes me feel better." she laughs. "I'm fine, Jack. Really. So, have fun and I hope she understands that you've got a daughter coming into your life and things." she tells him.

"Yeah, I'm not that much of an asshole," Jack says wryly. Fairy chirps something, and he listens and nods. "Fairy wants to go now - she'll test her wings back at my place. But it seems she's staying with me." He's very happy about that, obviously. And goblin gives a little bark, jumping and spinning, as if he finds this alright too. "Come see me and Fairy and everyone some day. I'd like that. But, I best get going now." He gives another smile, and then starts off towards his car. "I'll see you soon! Thanks so much for everything - we owe you."
