Harassment

Staff's opinion of harassment is decidedly dim.

On a game like this, differences of opinion happen. It's not fun for either side when it does. While this is a game of adults, and players are expected to act like adults and mediate most personal conflicts by themselves, this isn't always possible.

When an impasse is reached, neither side agreeing with the other, you have choices:

  • You can agree to disagree and avoid the objectionable topic/behaviour pattern.
This is by far the best choice.
  • You can continually bring it up, try to explain (again) why your point is the better opinion, and make the other person long to dump you out an airlock.

The second example is harassment.

If someone asks you to stop a behaviour, stop it.
If someone asks you to stop contacting them, stop it.
If someone asks you to stop paging/@mailing them, stop it.
If someone asks you to stop trying to play with them, stop it.

Do NOT use your alts to spy on them. Do NOT have your friends pass messages to them. If you enter a scene and they are there, either leave or refrain from interacting with them in the slightest. Passive aggression and snarky remarks in metaposes DO count as harassment, and are actionable offenses.

If someone persists after requests to cease harassing you, send a +request to staff with your complaint. Logs are helpful for verification.

Complaints will be relayed to the harassing player, along with a warning. Three complaints and disciplinary action will occur, per 'news punishment' or Punishments.

Now, staff is not stupid.

Staff has a lot of players to keep track of, but they will notice if one player is consistently crying wolf to get others in trouble.

On the same note, if you have been being harassed, but haven't said anything, haven't said anything, until the point where you have a nervous breakdown and explode, that is regrettably as much your fault as your harasser's. You KNOW when you are unhappy. You KNOW when someone is making you uncomfortable. Speak up. Staff can't help you if you don't tell them there is a problem.
