– Steven Brust

Overview

What happens when you come home, but no one recognizes you at all? Amber is about to find out. Not that it's likely anyone would recognize her -- she she was growing up, she was the scrawny, nerdy daughter of a small town waitress. They never had much money, and it was going to take a miracle for her to get out and make something of herself.

Being stolen by the Faeries, and having your Fetch end up killing herself and your mother in a tragic car accident, do wonders for giving you a chance to start over.

Amber Watson has come back to make Fort Brunsett home again. The quiet girl is gone, and in her place is a woman who's carved a name for herself in the highest circles of money and power. Beautiful, strong, and almost stupefyingly rich, the real question is: why chose this tiny backwater in Vermont as the latest home for her growing empire?

RP Hooks

  • You Can't Go Home Again - Amber was born and raised a local girl, taken when she was in high school. Her Fetch killed herself and her mother while she was gone, though, so as far as the authorities are concerned she's Someone Else. But maybe you knew her growing up, and your own world is weird enough that she'll admit the truth to you.
  • Didn't I See You in Last Month's Forbes? - After escaping her durance and getting back on her feet, Amber went off and built herself an empire founded on real estate and smart financial investments. She even dabbles in VC now and again, for the right project. Whether she likes it or not, though, she's undeniably one of the 1%.
  • Big Fish, Small Pond - Amber isn't very vocal about why she's decided to open her next office here, when she's been doing work in both New York and Chicago. Is she looking to lay low for a while, or does she have big plans? Maybe both?
  • Everything's Coming up Roses - She may be a new arrival, but she's far from inexperienced. She's hoping to find ways to serve both the freehold and the Spring Court now that she's here.
  • Hospitality is our Watchword - Amber has recently joined the Waykeepers as a Recruit. New in town, and looking to find out more about the freehold? She's on the front line for those sorts of introductions.
  • Meet Me In the Red Room - Even more recently, Amber has stepped up to serve as a Sage Escort for the Spring Court. Just never think that being open to...engagements...means that she lacks either discretion or the ability to still say 'no'.

Contacts

  • Tegan - Fascinating, the sort of people you run into your first day in town.
  • Riley - So damn adorable. Will have to see how I can help out her work.

Soundtrack

Sxip Shirey (feat. Rhiannon Giddens) - Woman of Constant Sorrow

Please bury me in your deep valley,
and all night long that's where I'll lay.
For just one night, pretend I love you;
I'll wrap in you like I'm sleeping in my grave.

Panic! At the Disco - Emperor's New Clothes

Sycophants on velvet sofas
Lavish mansions, vintage wine
I am so much more than royal
Snatch your chain and mace your eyes

CHVRCHES - Lies

I can sell you lies, You can't get enough
Make a true believer of anyone, anyone, anyone
I can call you up if I feel alone
I can feed your dirty mind
Like I know, like I know what you want
