The previous DJ signs out, the mic cuts over, and in a moment there's a rather lovely English-accented voice over the airwaves. "Good day Fort Brunsett... It's time for New Music Friday," says the woman, who seems pleased as punch to be broadcasting today. "I am your host, Her Royal Majesty, Amanda Green and I am here to bring you the newest music of the summer," she says.

The Broadcast

"As ever, you can feel free to call in to the WFBR studio. Request some new music. Chat me up. Spread the latest gossip. Tell me what you think about ''numbah six''," that said in a bad Boston accent, "and his beef with the lovely Enid Schmitt. Promise I'm unbiased!" says Green, with a little laugh.

"Good morning Fort Brunsett. This is Her Royal Majesty, Amanda Green, here to brighten your mid-day with New Music Fridays, on behalf of WFBR Fort Brunsett Radio," the voice that comes over the airways holds a crisp, BBC-broadcaster perfect English accent. "Let's get right into it. This is a new one from TLC, titled ''Way Back''." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibR0rYNMJpI
+
"Well then, enough talk. Lets get to it. Last week, I gave some sad and slow. It resonated with at least a few of you. I had claims that ''emotions'' were felt. This week... for better or worse, we'll have a bit of the same." Green pauses, then continues. "Let's start off with Lana Del Ray, featuring ASAP Rocky. This is... Summer Bummer." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWVLtkCZS58

The song winds down, and Green comes back onto the airwaves. "What do you all think? TLC's big comeback? ...no?" she asks. "Mmm, well. I have a new song I'm rather excited about... but before I get to that, I simply ''must'' take a moment to talk about... ''Yesterday''." The word comes out wholly exasperated. "I wrote an article about how beautiful it was to see a community handling a difference of opinion in positive, productive ways. And then some of you all decided to throw a bit of a riot. Imagine my disappointment..." There's a faint sigh. "Now then, I'll hold the song I was intending to play, and instead give you another new release by Nine Inch Nails. ''This Isn't The Place''." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_g8nAqDu3gI
+
"Mezermizing. I do love Lana Del Rey... and ASAP Rocky stole my heart when he collabed with Rod Stewart..." Green pauses. "Once again, this is Amanda Green, broadcasting on WFBR radio. And I've been on for how long, and already had a caller!"

"Nine Inch Nails has released their latest EP today, titled ''Add Violence''. Five tracks in total. I recommend you all give a listen," Green says. There's a moment's pause, then she continues. "This is Her Royal Majesty Amanda Green, broadcasting from the WFBR studios, bringing to you New Music Friday. Have a request? A new song you'd like to hear? A mood you need me to help you achieve? Or, do you just want to chat? Share your opinion... dance contests turned to riots? Feel free to call in," Green says. "Now, this is ''Valley Boy'' from Wolf Parade." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lRslooNX4Js
+
Green's voice cuts out, and another voice comes in. "6 is in the right here, Enid sticks her nose into too many things, like way too much. Or whatever..."

"Wolf Parade is a Montreal-based band. Their brief existence has already seen an indefinite hiatus, and the return to making music. That was off their latest, after their return, and I absolutely love it," Green says, over the airwaves. "We've another new album that just dropped today. Foster The People has released their third full-length studio album titled Sacred Hearts Club. From that album, this is ''Static Space Lover''." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWbgYLlWJk8
+
And Green's voice once more, "What would you say if I challenged that with... it's her right to publish as she wishes? And that so long as the people are buying papers, she ought to continue?"

"So much new music to sort through. So much of it sounding... similar. As you all know, we had a few weeks there of summer sadness, slow and aching. Believe we've struck a different tone this week, yeah?" Green's voice, once again, comes through the radio. "Filed under 'sounding different', and ''being different''... This is a combination of words I never thought I'd say. The Wu-Tang Clan has released a track on behalf of ''Chipotle Grill''... to wrap about burrito ingredients?" Green sounds perplexed. "I don't know. You all tell me what you think. This is... ''SAVOR WAVS 360''... I think." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=neROSiqT5xI
+
The caller's voice continues. "Her right to Free Speech ends where someone else's Right to Privacy begins. Or Whatever. Like. Just because something can be sold for a profit doesn't make it moral. You're basically ok with heroin if you're using that line of thought - as long as people are buying it, it's ok."

"I really don't know what to make of it. RZA is incredible, as ever. Chipotle supports ''real food'', without antibiotics and all that. But a collaboration between the two? Is that social change?" Green gives a soft sigh. "I'll add that there's more remixes, done by The Head and the Heart, AWOLNATION, and GRiZ... that's some serious names... Well, then. This is Amanda Green, presenting New Music Fridays on behalf of WFBR Fort Brunsett Radio. Let's keep switching genres faster than anyone can keep up. This one could have been the backdrop for the latter part of yesterday's dance off. What do you think, Mr. Alexander? Is it stand-on-a-table-and-scream worthy?... This is ''No Relief'' by Trapped Under Ice." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHfZxputLKY
+
And Green's voice is back. "Well then. We've a moral obligation to help one another, and protect one another's privacy. Audience? What do you think...?" she asks. There's a pause, then she continues. "Let's hear from Galantis while we think on that, yeah? Here's ''True Feeling''." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-U7JSVY7grg

"Loud? Raucus? What better to follow that lovely track than one featuring... say... Justin Bieber?" That's Green's voice, back on the air. "Before I queue up the latest by David Guetta, I wanted to share with you all that ''Numbah Six'' has called in. If anyone hadn't seen, in my latest article, I offered the man a guest editorial in the Tamarack Times. After... some discussion... He's agreed. I encourage you all to set your expectations for next week's run very, very high."
+
"I love Galantis. And I love this town. You all ''care'' so much!... I had a repeat caller, whose name I can't quite remember. She had a message for the people of Fort Brunsett..."

Green's voice cuts out, and in it's place, the distorted and masked voice of one Number Six. "I wanted to say that I neither support nor condemn what occurred at the so-called dance-off yesterday. For now, mum's the word. I'm primarily calling to let you know that I read your column and would like to take you up on your offer to submit a guest editorial to the Tamarack Times, should that offer still stand. And I hope it does."
+
A woman with a thick Russian accent speaks. "Hello. This fight, it is funny. Littering is not. Do not make the city mess with flyers... I will offer other option to litter. I will build small boxes, little free libraries they are called, at cost. Very popular I am told. People will want to have them in yards and by businesses. Stick the love letters in those."

"Decidedly muted response from Number Six," Green says, as she comes back on the air. "But, perhaps he's saving the good stuff from next week. We'll have to see... Here's David Guetta featuring Justin Bieber in ''2U''." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7IPNBW9fSvc
+
"How about it, ''numbah six''? Care to start your own alternative media distribution solution?" Green asks, as she returns to the air. "If anyone else is willing to, please contact the Miller Mill. Fresh, local wood, at cost! You can't beat that... Here's a new one, from One Republic and Seeb. This is ''Rich Love''." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJ6hAQjW9Aw

"Are you ready for this, Fort Brunsett? Truly?... because here it comes... I love Justin Beiber. I said it. Hashtag Sorry-not-sorry," Amanda Green says, ever so boldly, over the air. "And for anyone still listening, this is Amanda Green, broadcasting New Music Fridays on behalf of WFBR Fort Brunsett Radio. And if you're still listening, Mr. Alexander, it is ''rude'' to abruptly hang up on people. Hmph. This is ''Last Resort and Spa'', by Battle Tapes." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2lH0FzVejo
+
"This is Amanda Green, broadcasting on WFBR, Fort Brunsett Radio. I am with you all today to bring you ''New Music Friday''... which is also rapidly becoming ''Public Forum Friday''. I've no problem with that. I love hearing from you all. All but the toxic types that are still wondering why women are allowed on the air..." Green trails off for a moment... I had an interesting caller. One that supports Ms. Schmitt's efforts... This is what Ms. Helah Morgenstern had to say..."

Green's voice comes back as the song draws to an end. "That was a new one form Battle Tapes. A Los Angeles band, almost a decade old, and I'd only heard them this week. I rather like it. Moving on to another LA band... This is Wildling with ''Leavin''." https://youtu.be/fAD7q_GrejI?t=20s
+
In a soft female voice with no discernible accent which, it may be noted by anyone who has heard the real Helah, is NOT Helah's voice... "I support Ms. Schmitt. Shame is a valuable social implement, and I invite all who feel themselves unjustly persecuted to examine their lives for the source of their shame. Which decisions could they have made better to avoid their current pain? Self-improvement should be the goal of all. I feel that Ms. Schmitt performs a public service and should be lauded, not decried."

"Now then... let's hear another poppy song, before I end on a very different note. This is ''Feel It Still'' by Portugal. The Man." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBkHHoOIIn8
+
"What do you all think of that?" Amanda Green asks. There's a pause. "Let's see hear from Vic Mensa, and Pharrel. This is ''Wings''." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qP5MVEYBop4
+

+
"Now, I had a call, requesting a certain song... a song that's a ''touch'' older than I would normally play. But I'd be lying if I said the caller didn't have one of the most lovely voices I ever heard. This is ''clearly'' a woman worth breaking the rules for..." Green pauses. The grin she wears is heard in her voice. "This is for a certain someone that needs a little reminder of what he's got to lose. Here's ''Oh Wonder'' by Heavy." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8RmfDg45SE
+

+
"What would a New Music Friday be without a call from ''Numbah Six'' himself?" Green asks, as she comes back on the air. "The man himself has called in defend his fliers - they are not litter, you see! And if they blow about, perhaps the alligators in the sewers will get a chance to read them..." A pause. "I added that bit."
+

+
The same disguised voice that everyone knows comes on the line. "It's good to hear the people have spoken. I stand by my flyers. They got at least one person to pay attention, didn't they? You can't put everything into neat little sancitioned boxes, wouldn't you agree? As for Enid, it was never about the right to privacy. It's about standing up to a bully who is careless about her words and profits off the suffering of the people."
+

+
"Well there you have it," Amanda Green says, as she returns to the airwaves. "From the man himself. Hmmm... I bet he's the type to throw cigarette butts on the ground... From an amazing talent who dealt with one particular bully for years and years and years... Here's a new one from Kesha. This is called ''Woman''." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXyA4MXKIKo
+

+
"Speaking of sorry-not-sorry... Sorry. But not sorry. Here's the latest from Kid Rock, called Po-Dunk... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KnAzpi4avo"
+

+
"This is Amanda Green at the WFBR studio. I am not sorry. But... How about a palate cleanse after that one? This is new from a man that we've all ''heard of'', to say the least. Is this one relevant to our little little discussion...? This is ''My Mind Is For Sale'', but Jack Johnson." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3REipDpxNQ
+

+
"Gal Tuesday called in... she wanted to say a few things, and how could I not give her a few moments of your times?" Green asks, before she pauses, and the line switches over.
+

+
The accent is decidedly local Vermont. "It's a weak little man who threatens a women's livelihood in an attempt to snuff out her opinion. So while I have nothing but disapproval for what that Six has to say, I will defend to the death his right to say it. Besides; if he wants to play the fool? The rest of us can stand back and have a laugh!" And she does: loudly. "Enid: keep up the good fight, stay golden, never change, you got a loyal reader. That Six may as well be workin' on Madison Avenue - everyone's talkin'! There is only one thing worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about. Good on ya, Six - you're doing a /great/ job there, buddy!"
+

+
"Thank you for call in, Tuesday," Green says, as she comes back on air. "I asked dear Tuesday what she wanted to hear. She said... a banger. So, Tuesday, I give you ''Mayores'' by Becky G." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GMFewiplIbw
+

+
"That was the ''beautiful'' Becky G, with ''Mayores''," Green says. "Hope you all enjoyed it. I did. A little reggaeton does wonder for the soul. And the hips... well. Since we've picked things up, let's keep that energy going. This is ''Save A Little Love'' by Don Diablo... Won't you all save a little love for me?" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4LphhTa_xg
+

+
"Well, Fort Brunsett. We're about out of time. Once again, this is Her Royal Majesty, Amanda Green, bringing you New Music Friday on behalf of WFBR, Fort Brunsett Radio. Thank you all for lending me your ears. Thank you, WFBR, for lending me your airwaves. And double thanks to you all for giving a fudge about what happens in your beautiful city..." Green pauses, then clears her throat. "And now, to play us out... what I know you all were waiting for... Here's the latest from Nine Inch Nails... I give you ''Less Than''." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDV-dOvqKzQ

"Thank you, Fort Brunsett and Tamarack Falls. Thank you, WFBR. It has been a delight to serve you all this lovely day." Green pauses, and takes a breath. "Now, to play us out..." She starts, and there's a change in her voice. Clear emotion bubbling out. "Off of 'One More Light', released back in May... This is... ''Heavy''... by Linkin Park, featuring Kiiara. You'll be missed..." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5dmQ3QWpy1Q
