The Church in the Wild: Hospital Hijinks

There are much scarier things than doctors and nurses.

Velvet has gotten word from her contacts on the black market that some people in town have partaken in a bit of human trafficking by kidnapping children from the hospital. However, no one has reported a single child missing from the place. Under cover of night and with a few extra knives she's going to go solve this problem asap with some help. Part of The Church in the Wild

Location

Riverside Hospital, Tamarack Road, Fort Brunsett

The fires were some time ago, but the hospital is still relatively full of victims from the blazes. This along with the usual lot of those sick or grievously injured means that the lobby still has a handful of people sitting down somewhere or aimlessly walking about. A single man sits behind the reception desk in scrubs and his long black hair tied back in a ponytail.

"Don't worry," Velvet said to Olivia when they were discussing checking out the hospital for what's going on with the kids vanishing. "You won't see me, but I'll be there, hidden. You do your thing and I'll guide you by text when I have to. Just wear this earpiece and set your phone to text to speak. Just in case." There was probably arguement and some mention of the oddity of it, but Velvet would insist. The woman is there now, a couple of steps behind Olivia. Her glowing eyes sweep the room, checking out the current security and workers around them.

"I'm not afraid of hospitals," Olivia says with a quiet scoff. "There are much scarier things than doctors and nurses." The earpiece is studied, and Velvet earns herself more than a few confused sorts of looks before Olivia complies, her phone tucked in her pocket, the earpiece in place. She looks around the lobby curiously, one hand rising to absently scratch at the side of her head. "What am I looking for?" she mutters absently.

The confused look was expected, of course, but Velvet assured her that she knew what she was doing. It's best that she isn't seen in the begining. So Olivia was just going to have to trust her. Sadly, there was a reason she didn't really work with non-Lost. But she'd always welcome this particular non-Lost. The text comes through just after that absent mutter. The text to speach chiming in Olivia's ear. "Whoever it is that's doing this is targetting children. The kid's wing is probably the first place we should check."

"How the hell am I supposed to get into the pediatric ward?" Olivia says with a small frown. "Actually, I have an idea. One second." The redhead turns and walks back out of the hospital again, only briefly, to return with her guitar case held over one shoulder. "Nothing like performing for kids to bypass any possible security." She pauses briefly to study a map, getting her bearings before turning to head down the hall.

"Cleverly," Velvet offers through the text. From where she's lingering nearby, the woman smirks. She waits, her eyes trailing after Olivia as the woman goes to grab the guitar. "Perfect. If that fails, I'll hijack you some credentials to get you in," she assures. What about her? Velvet doesn't actually say.

The walk from the reception area towards the pediatric wing is a short one. There, things are much quieter save the current gaggle of nurses chatting at their station. A few parents or family members come and go from the rooms, either for food or something else. Towards the back and near the fire exit there's something that can't be missed. A single rat sits in a corner with a cracker in its paws, but doesn't once take a bite of it as it continues looking around.

"Ha ha," comes Olivia's dry response at Velvet's 'cleverly' suggestion. She walks down the hall, giving people room to move around herself, offering up smiles and brief nods. Walk with purpose and everyone believes you belong there. The rat with its snack earns a look from Olivia and she peers over at it for a moment before looking around for Velvet, who SHOULD be nearby. "Uh..."

"Haha all you want, you did exactly that, didn't you?" Velvet points out. Is it possible for that mechanical voice to sound smug? Because it might if it could. "I see it," she texts, as her eyes narrow on the creature. "Make like you don't for a minute. If you see it move, follow that direction." Velvet's steps make no noise, leave no trace thanks to Separation. So she's is able to make her way towards it quickly, wanting to get a closer look and follow it if it moves.

The rat itself smells as a rat should, or one might expect to. However, there are also three other problems. It smells surprisingly clean for a rat. Especially for one that looks to be the type to roam about everywhere. It also smells of alcohol, and an incredibly expensive brand by the smell of it. Lastly, is the smell of blood, however faint it may be.

As Olivia stares at the rat she eventually catches the attention of one of the nurses. The woman looks a bit past her middle age, and looks fairly tired with the bags under her eyes. She's a bit taller than the psychic, and her hairs kept up in a bun. "Excuse me, ma'am. Is there something I can help you with?" As she questions Olivia the faint sound of movement can be heard in three of the rooms furthest to the back of the hallway. It sounds like a constant amount of shuffling in each of them.

Olivia looks a bit confused. "You se.... HOW do you see it?!" she hisses, looking around where Velvet is certainly not to be seen. "The fuck. Seriously." She turns her gaze elsewhere as she's instructed to not stare at the rat, just shaking her head as she observes some of the artwork painted on the wall. When the nurse approaches her, she blinks over at the other woman and stares for a moment before answering simply. "Nope, I'm good. Thank you, though. I'll probably be playing some music soon if you have any patients that are mobile and might enjoy it."

The woman appears puzzled for a brief moment. "We don't have anyone coming in for that. Not that I know of." She looks Olivia up and down, brow quirked. Before she can ask further another of the nurses stands, a younger man likely the same age as Olivia. He bounces out of his seat, really, and with a pen and pad in hand. "This is /the/ Olivia Utridge. She's a legend! She went off to New York, and... And. What happened?" He asks while clutching that notepad close to his chest.

"I'm here, you just don't know it. It's what I do." There's no more explanation than that. She lets Olivia talk with the woman as she studies the rat. She smirks a little bit when she realizes that Olivia has a fanboy. That's adorable and she's going to get mocked about that later. There's shuffling, and that's enough to draw Velvet's attention away from the rat, moving towards one of the doors. "Something going on in three of the rooms," she sends before she moves towards the closest and steps right through the door itselfs and onto the other side. There's a phone in one hand, and a gun with a silencer in the other.

Olivia blinks again as the apparent fan steps forward, recognizing her. That's... good? Bad? Olivia isn't sure in this particular circumstance. Either way, she smiles over at the man and nods slightly to confirm her identity. "I went off to New York, found that I got a bit homesick, and returned for a little while. I'll hit the road again one day, I'm sure. No reason I can't do recordings here, yeah?" Velvet is on her own at the moment; Olivia is plainly visible and has to do a bit of crowd control. She holds out one hand to the young man, ready to take his notepad and pen. "What's your name?"

"Bobby Lee," the man answers cheerily. "Bobby Lee Hampton." Without even waiting for a response from Olivia he thrusts the notepad and pen forward. "Can you sign this for me! Pleeeease!" This draws the ire of the taller nurse. "That is hospital property, Bobby, and-" Bobby looks up to her, giving her the puppy dog eyes. It does work, and the older woman returns back to the station with a tired sigh. She might just be sick of this shit.

In the first room Velvet enters she can see what amounts to a horned, demonic looking man carrying a child in one arm and readying to shove him into a sack. On the bed, however, is a girl with the exact same face and clothing. While he does this another Changeling of some furry, bestial bent is moving things in the room back into place.

Shit. Shit shit shit. There's no way she's not going to have to explain this to Olivia after. Fetch children and fucking loyalists. The rage bubbles up inside of Velvet as she readys her gun right towards the demonic looking man. She doesn't have time to wait, because she already knows what's going on in the other rooms. "Trouble in the rooms. Trouble normal people can't be around." she doesn't know what else to do. Drawing attention to it could mean more trouble for the kids in the other rooms. But better that they end up dead than slaves. In Velvet's mind at least. She only waits a couple of seconds, enough to line up a shot as neatly as she can before she pulls the trigger.

Olivia grins over at the nurse that departs back to the station as she takes the pad that's passed in her direction. "Happy to," she tells him, clicking the pen to make sure that it will write before she scribbles a quick note. 'The biggest fan here I've yet to meet, Bobby Lee Hampton.' Along with her name, of course. The pad and pen are handed back to him and she gives him a smile, nodding towards the nursing station. "I'll let you get back to work. Keep your ears open, and you may hear of some interesting events." Her head tilts slightly at the text that comes through her earpiece. Normal people? Questions for later. Olivia shifts her position slightly, moving her stance to stand in the middle of the hall to act as a physical barrier if she has to.

Bobby's clapping with excitement at that. His excitement is starting to get to be a bit too much as he watches Olivia sign the pad. "Thank you," he drones over, over, and over. It does help well enough that when he cheers with joy the distant sound from one of teh rooms goes completely ignored by the nurses for now.

The boy's shoved into the sack easily enough. However, he isn't held that way for too long. The shot claps, and when the bullet's free it ends up with the demon falling flat to the ground as blood flows from his torso. "What the fuck?" growls the beast. He starts sniffing at the air, swiping this way and that in an attempt to find the target of the sound.

"Just keep them distracted." It's a little misspelled, but to be fair, Velvet is busy moving around the room to avoid swings, and trying to get a second shot out, this time towards the swiping guy. She manages to line up another shot, taking it at a strange angle.

"You're welcome," Olivia tells him, bobbing her head slightly in his direction. If nothing else, this is providing a distraction that Velvet, in theory, is in need of. And as far as she knows, that distraction is still necessary. So while Velvet is murdering things, Liv unshoulders her guitar and begins to play quietly. Just loud enough to have people more interested in her than the other sounds going on without being too loud over the normal alarms and bells that may go off in a hospital ward. While rock is her usual genre of choice, she settles on something a bit more melodic for the time being. If she's too disruptive, she may be asked to leave. And there will be many questions for Velvet later. Many.

The furry beast is shot, and fuck does it hurt. He doesn't make too much noise save a rumbling growl as he clutches his side. He does eventually find his mark, though. His claws find purchase as he get something close enough to Velvet, and rips at her midsection. Just as he does his pocket begins vibrating along with that of the horned man Velvet dropped in one shot.

The nurses on the other hand are rather disctracted. As Olivia breaks out into sound all of them start to look up to her. Bobby starts shaking the tall woman by the shoulder, whispering, "See? See?" This causes the woman to roll her eyes, but she does appear to enjoy the show nonetheless.

She was struck! That doesn't happen very often. But she's also never witnessed a child being grabbed before either, not like this. It's rocked her. "Fucker," she growls as she drops back a few steps and then lines up another shot. He drops with that one, and she's immediately moving to grab his vibrating phone so that she can check it.

The beast drops with a light thud that may as well be a whisper on the wind. When she reaches into his pocket she finds a cellphone. The name Damian flashes on the screen. It also appears like someone named Jonathan is calling them. If she checks the pockets of the devil over there it'll be the same along with a text from someone named Cass is asking in a text, "Where are you?"

Velvet stares at the phone while she works on slowly starting to move the bodies out of the way of the door. She has a mess to clean up, and a fetch to deal with. But first things first. The call button is slid over to answer the incoming call. Her voice sugary sweet as she lifts the phone to her ear. "Hello Jonathan," she rumbles. "I have a proposition for you."

The fetch, like the boy in the sack, is knocked out cold. The IV placed into his arm and ekg read normally, and as far as anyone outside may be concerned with he's no different than the little boy that was originally there. When Velvet answers she initially hears the sound of movement. The voice that answers is gravelly and clearly upset. However, his anger is kept to hushed tones. "Who is this, and why isn't Bastien answering?"

"Is Bastien the demon looking one with the whole in his chest, or the fuzzy one with two holes?" Velvet wonders, her voice a taunting purr. "We don't take very kindly to Loyalists or Privateers trying to make this town a hunting ground. So here's the offer, and you're only going to get this option once, so I'd think long and hard about how you answer. You return to me the other kids that were taken tonight, safe and sound. I'll return to you the bodies of your friends, and I won't have anyone else hunt down and murder the rest of you. I've got your scents, do believe that you will be found, and you will share Bastien's fate. Then you're going to get the fuck out of my town."

"You bitch!" As he curses the sound of wind rushing in can be heard in the background. "You're not gonna find shit, and we're gonna kill you for what you did to Bastien and Hanz." That comes with a chuckle as the sound of wind gets greater. "We're gonna kill you, and everyone you ever loved." He remains silent for a few seconds longer. "The Prince will not be denied his due."

Velvet clucks her tongue against the roof of her mouth. "Ooooh. Well, that was the wrong answer, wasn't it, Jonathan?" Her voice softens even more, that razor's edge dancing along it as she continues to speak. "The Prince will be denied his due. Perhaps I should make sure he knew it was because of you and your little crew. So far we have you, Jonathan. We have a Damian, and a Cass as well. I'll be sure to visit all of you soon enough. I'll be seeing you soon."

Jonathan growls "The Monstrous Prince will not care. We have done as asked. That Bastien and Hanz failed are their faults." A pause comes as the wind continues rushing by. "I imagine that is no longer their problem. You have my thanks for that." Someone can be heard shouting something in the background. It sounded like, "Bank right." A second after that all Velvet gets is a, "Goodbye," and the call ends.

"He doesn't abide failure well," Velvet offers in return. She knows full well his wrath. By the time the phone is hung up, Velvet is already starting to move. She's taking the bodies and wrapping them up in whatever she can find, cleaning up blood and then very carefully swapping out the sleeping boys until the right one is back in his place on the bed. She stares down at the other one, brows knitting as she brushes hair from his face. They're so well put together that even she's struggling with this. She just lets them both sleep for the moment as she finishes cleaning up the mess and loading the two bodies into the closet for a moment.

Back in the hallway, Olivia is still crooning and keeping the nurses occupied. The rat once in the hallway is long gone, and in its place a slight mark it scratched into the wall. Something like a cross. In the second room she finds a sleeping little girl, and two scents that lead her to the now closed window. The same comes from the third room where a little boy rests. Each scent leading to the window in the same room. From the smell of things, that's also how they arrived.

All of the scents are memorized for the moment, the fury that Velvet is feeling just bubbling up inside of her until it's little more than a white, hot rage. If she weren't so careful, she already be going after the scents. But for right now, she's going to get the bodies and the fetch out of there. She moves back out from the room, giving Olivia a little warning about what's about to happen before she tugs the fire alarm. She waits for the door of the room with the bodies to be opened, and for the boy to be wheeled out in the evacuation. Once everyone has started to leave, she starts working on getting the bodies down from the window and into the shrubs beneath. From there, she'll get them into the car, then the fetch. This is not going to be easy to explain to Olivia but she'll worry about that later. The orders are to get them to the lakehouse, just leave the bodies in the car and bring the boy inside. Velvet has some hunting to do.

As the fire alarm sirens start ringing throughout Olivia gives Velvet a slight nod. Smoke starts coming from the stairwell further down as the sirens sound. Hastily and quickly the Utridge concert ends. The nurses are rushing away from where they once lounged, and start rushing all of the children out. Parents help where they can, and in the chaos Olivia makes her own exit. For the time being, at least, this gives Velvet a few moments of privacy and silence after everyone in the wing is rushed out.

With Olivia's help and distraction, she's able to get it all done. The bodies are dumped in the trunk, the boy wrapped up in a blanket in the back. She can't bring herself to kill it yet. Olivia takes off with all the details of what to do as Velvet once again vanishes into nothingness. Her nostrils flare, nose lifting as she works to catch the scent of the men in the air. Her senses hone in, starting to move in that direction. Thanks to her seperation earlier? She is /fast/.

When making her way outside she can hear the distant sounds of sirens approach. The noise is only a slight distraction this far away from things. The scent goes from the window, and she travels along it never onces touches the ground. No, the scent remains in the air the entire time. From the way things are going it's easy enough to approximate where it'd lead. The trail heads all the way to the Tam, and from there it goes north and west somewhere into the natural lands of the surrounding area.

Running and leaping, Velvet is actually making pretty good time as she makes her way along the trail heading towards the Tam, following the scents. She leaves no trace of herself, footsteps silent as she weightlessly races across the landscape. Maybe, just maybe, she can manage to get to those other children in time before they're given over to the man who was responsible for her own torture for so many years. Or maybe it's a trap. Either way, she has to try.

She has to beat feet for a long time to follow that trail. It leads her out of the city, and eventually to the wilderness. Once there she finds no sight, sign, nor trail of the loyalists. The trees appear undisturbed, the ground clear save the tracks of the animals to be expected around this time of year. However, there is something snagged on the tree. It'd be missed by almost anything and everyone else. A few flecks of blood on a higher branch in a tree with a scent on it similar to what she picked up from one of the bedrooms.

Pausing when the trail seems to stop, Velvet glances around, nose lifted towards the air, trying to catch the wind and any scents on it. She spies the flecks of blood and prepares herself. With a single bound she's up and into the branches, pulling herself up and onto one thick enough to steady herself. She reaches out for the thing that's snagged, studying it.

As she climbs further and further up she draws the attention and fear of a few of the creatures here. While none can see her in her current state, they can just as easily hear and smell her. In the case of one squirrel that's hurriedly running away they can see her ascending movements. When she does reach her location its amid a bunch of leaves and brances in the tree. The thing she finds snagged in there with the blood looks to be a piece of cloth, or might have to any mortal onlookers. The way it moves and shimmers in teh light tells her it was from something of hedgespun design - the product of starlight and children's fears.

Velvet doesn't seem to care about spooking the animals, so long as she gets to her destination. She tugs the clothing from the tree and brings it to her nose for a deeper sniff, eyes narrowing on the trees around them. How did it get up here? Unless they were flying somehow. From this height she starts to sniff again, focusing on the blood to see if there's a trail.

From where she sits she can make out something of a disturbance off in a clearing much further ahead. While the scent of leads to it there appears no trace of anyone passing here. The only thing of note are car tracks that lead here and from another direction. The majority of scents associated here are difficult to make up - either new or ruined by the smell of exhaust. Following the tracks leads her back to town, and in turn just in time for the rising sun. Following it still leads to a warehouse in the southern part of town. Going inside reveals nothing more than that this was the origin of the scents of all of the captors, the unknown scents, and whatever vehicle travelled all the way out to the woods. Further back and on the wall she can make out a symbol painted there she's seen enough times. A sun, five rays from the sun, and three stars below it.
