Broken Dolls:Lions, Dragons and Soldiers

Oh my!

Participants

Talbot, Iris, Miranda, Cian, Gisa as ST

11 August, 2017

A nice evening walk in the Hedge... totally spoiled. Part of Broken Dolls.

Location

H19

It's not uncommon for people to get decked out in all kinds of defenses and weapons when they go trapsing around in the Hedge, but dragons will be dragons, which is to say arrogant, and so Iris is wandering on her way to try to find the nearest market carrying no visible weapons at all, just wearing a sun dress and carrying a large satchel over a shoulder. On the other hand, the rainbow-hued dragon is also clearly a Changeling with ferociously strong connection with the Wyrd and not so human any more, so there's a good chance she knows what she's about, and just isn't afraid of whatever she's likely to find there.

In any case, she does keep her unblinking serpentine eyes alert for trouble, and her ears open for sounds that suggest things might be coming that her eyes won't pick up on. She does not, however, blend in whatsoever. With anything. Except a barrel full of rainbows, or the aftermath of a semi truck full of paint having a wreck. She just strolls down the middle of the path, bold as can be.

Trips to the Market are significantly easier for Miranda then many, one of the few benefits of having your hollow out in the deep hedge. Her trips sometimes get detoured, of course, part of the way of life of a Baroness of the Lesser Ones, so here she is out on the trod, whether in anyone's company, or having struck out on her own. She carries a backpack across her shoulders, his armed with her heavy revolver on her hip, and generally alert and cautious as she makes her way along, keeping an eye out for trouble.

Cian just never belongs where he's decided to go. Today's Hedge delving outfit is a pair of heathered grey sweatpants that almost hide his Chucks, that H.I.M. off-black hoodie and his canvas side-bag (it's a murse). He saw Iris going and well, knowing her to be a seeker of trouble, he decided to traipse along after. Staying rather quiet he just stays on the edges of vision, always flitting from shadow to shadow as he partly stalks and partly shadows the dragon. Right, because a Thief following a Dragon is a good idea.

The trod is usually... relatively peaceful at this time of the day. Or any time of the day. I mean, sure, sometimes there are roving packs of briarwolves, but isn't that everywhere in the Hedge? And not like, that often? Sure.

But something smells like smoke...

Does Iris know that Cian is there, and just not care? Or has she missed his presence? She doesn't give too much sign either way, like she isn't too worried about him any more than the briar wolves or other things that might be out here. She's a dragon. But when she comes upon another of the Lost on the trail ahead, just about the same time that she smells smoke, she pauses her stride for just a minute and then heads toward him. "I don't suppose you're starting fires?" she asks as she heads toward Miranda. "Or is that some other sort of trouble I'm smelling. It's not just me, is it? You smell it too?"

"No. There's trouble." Miranda says in response to the question posed by Iris, glancing off a bit down the way, a trail opposite of where she might be heading, "And it's back this way. Are you coming?" she asks, glancing over before she starts off in the other direction, presumeably off towards whatever the source of the stink is.

"If there's trouble, of course I'm coming!" Iris answers with a laugh, shifting her satchel so that it's resting more on her butt than on her hip, for better balance, and hurrying along at Miranda's side. She sniffs the air as she goes, and scans their surroundings, and given the way she holds her taloned hands with fingers curled she seems to be ready to rip faces off if need be. "Do you know what's usually over here?" she asks, since she's new in town and honestly has no idea.

The trod up ahead is a mess, and it's exactly what Miranda knows and Cian has damn good reason to suspect. One of those little tanks they saw at the hob village -- which would be much more comical if it weren't for the fact that it is spewing fire -- and soldiers, at, well... Talbot. And seting the Hedge on fire. That's always a good way to spend an evening, right?

Talbot being this remarkably tall figure in a leather jacket-- and with an absolutely wild mass of dark hair along his head. It's even more sou in his Mien than in his Mask, with the hair formed so deeply in volume that it is easy to mistake immediately as the mane of a lion-- especially with the vaguely feline, beastial qualities that protrude from his otherwise human face, fangs visible and everything.

...And, yes. He's having a remarkably bad day now. Who even comes along with a bloody fire-spewing tank?! You'd think they'd at least have the decency to use SABOT rounds instead, but what're you gonna do? In the middle of a gout of flame he stands-- and with a tiny goblin of a soldier held up by the throat in one clawed hand, with the thing's arm restrained by his other hand. Held in the air like that directly in front of him, which unfortunately puts him right in the path of the flames. Some of the fire still licks Talbot himself, but the soldier promoted to 'Personnel Shield' takes the brunt of it. With the midget-soldier all but turned into a fireball, the leonine man steps aside and tosses the unfortunate soul in defiance towards his comrades. With a roar, of all things. A loud, thundering sound that almost seems to echo all throughout the Hedge, the sound of a an actual *lion* rather than anything that the vocal chords of a human should produce.

Swear to everything holy there was a Cian there a second ago. Without him anywhere nearby Iris hears the Wisp whisper like he was right there. A coalescance of Wyrd and then nothingness, that vacuum of sound and light shifts, and an impending doom starts marching towards the tank.

"I've never fought a tank before!" is the first thing that Iris says, but that doesn't seem to cause her even the faintest moment of hesitation. She sees some dude being attacked by a bank tank and a bunch of soldiers, and she charges to the rescue. That's how dragons work, at least if they want to be awesome, and she certainly does. "To arms!" she calls out, her voice rising above the din. "It's time for us to be heroes!" And she dives into the fray, her gloriously plumed wings spreading as she leaps headlong at the first of the soldiers and slices into him with flashing claws. She might be so brightly gaudy it nearly hurts the eye to look at her, but she moves like smoke.

Little gusts of wind start to flutter up along the trod, gathering and circling about the water elemental that is Miranda, causing the faux bustle of lace and fringe to flutter about, as well as little strands of her hair. Her pistol is held, but she does nothing with it, for the moment anyway. Gathering her power, so to speak!

The soldiers are not yet completely on Iris's train of 'let's all attack Iris'. There's a lion in front of them who needs attacking. One of them actually gets through his defense, and whacks him with a sword... but it bounces off of his armor. The gust of flame? Misses him. It lights another section of trees and vines on fire instead. Um. That's fine, right?

A slit-pupiled feline eye flicks over to the suddenly-appearing Iris first. There's a brief hint of confusion-- but it hardly persists, what with the utter fury continuing on through his whole body. Wrath. Fire. It mixes together. But his body doesn't mix with the fire of the tank, as it happens, as evidenced by him suddenly ducking down and sweeping off to the side in a lightning-fast motion, although seemingly right into the path of a sword... that just kind of bounces off his leather jacket -covered arm. H...uh. The Lion's green eyes flash with uncontrolled fury, glaring at the goblin responsible as if he's insulted even for the *attempt*. And his response to this? He speeds over the tiny distance left between him and the hob, giant fist raised up and brought down to crash straight into the thing's head. It doesn't just hit-- it brings the hob crashing down, and with the fist following through, crushes his head between the fist and the ground. Cue a sickening sound of shattering bone and splattering blood and brainbits. Ew.

Steam and oil hiss as the mechanism's heat burns them off in clunky movements. The tank for lack of a better term is rattling right along until there's a sudden squeak as everything grinds to a halt. Someone with a keen eye might have see the darkened movement inside of the tank, the spray of pus and ichor that coats the front console. Vanta-black eyes flicker with a ghostly light while the totally innocent Darkling turns on the Gunner inside. There's another sound from inside the tank, it's something like a pitched and whining wail - maybe a sob? The hell is going on in there. Whatever it is, the tank has come to a full and complete halt.

Iris dances her way further into the fray, wading into the enemies like they're just a bunch of club-goes out on a dance floor or something. She moves like liquid color, though, not like any mortal dancer, and as she passes the soldier she'd clawed before in a graceful spin she adds scarlet red to the spinning colors that surround her. Her claws rend flesh and leave the soldier in ribbons, and as she parks herself right in the middle of as many foes as possible she takes in a deep breath, exhales, and... breathes our rainbows like most dragons of legend breath fire. The light of it fills the area, shifting color and dancing kaleidoscope light. "Come dance with me!" she roars. "You can do better than this!"

Miranda doesn't actually dance or anything into battle, she just points her big revolver at one of the hob soldiers that accompany the rampaging battletank, firing off some sort of explosive grub out of the barrel and into the creature, wounding it, but not dropping it.

When these hobs die? It's ugly. It's messy. It's not like when things that are strictly biological die. They sort of ... explode. In a mess of metal parts, flesh, pus, blood, and rot. What the actual fuck?

Also, seriously, people (who are not Miranda) are going to really want showers.

Suddenly there's only one poor fool left alive, and when Iris turns to look at him she suddenly goes from dancing like wind to utterly still. Her serpentine eyes stare at him for a fraction of a second, her expression cool and dispassionate, and then she cracks a smile. "Aw, hell, I'm already covered in gross," she says before she leaps on him and nearly tears his head off with her claws as she bears him to the ground, and he explodes under her. "That is just nasty," she says, standing back up with a beat of her short wings, which sprays a bunch of that nastiness around her, and then she searches the area. "I think whoever was in the tank met my stalker, and that probably means they're all gone. Does anyone happen to know how to put out fires? I'm better at starting them."

Blood and pus and gross shit. Everywhere. The shadow is still inside of the tank, moving around with purpose. Talbot peeks inside just in time to see a very frightened Gunner looking around frantically, waving something that might be considered a weapon. It backs up in the already dark and cramped cock pit, shadows starting to swallow its visage. A shadowy hand reaches out of the darkness from an odd angle, too-long fingers dipped in ink curl around the things mouth. Wide eyes look up at Talbot pleadingly right before it disappears in a muffled sound of bone crunching and muscle ripping. A nice big gush of pus and filth arcs to splash the ceiling of the tank, the hatch and Talbot included.

At least she's clean. Miranda puts her revolver back into it's holster and kinda frowns a little at the growing fire from the indiscriminate flaming of the Hob Tank. Her eyes close as she reaches out, communicating with the water around her.

With Talbot getting washed up by EVEN MORE ICKY PUS AND BLOOD coming up from the hatch of the tank-- some of the fury fades, at least. Not all of it, hardly so. Enough at least, that he steps back away from it, in a crouch atop the tank, and his head tips back far. ANd just like that, another roar-- a loud, victorious battlecry of a lion overcome adversity.

Iris looks around again, then focuses on Miranda who seems to be trying to do something. She watches for a few moments, curious, and then looks at Talbot and says, "nice, good roar. It's lucky for you we came along, isn't it! You're welcome! I'm Iris, and my companions probably have names but I have no idea what they are since I've never met either of them before." She looks back at Miranda with her unblinking eyes. "Have you got some trick up your sleeve? Is there anything I should do to help? Or should we all make tracks to the nearest shower?"

There is a lot of concentration upon Miranda's face, her hands raising, and the expenditure of Glamour nearly palpatable. That's when the sound of running water can be heard, at least as much water contained within a large hot tub, moving with a mind of it's own, in rather unusual ways. "I would recommend scrubbing yourself with dirt to get the muck off first." She says after a moment, directing the rush of water towards burning trees, climbing, engulfing, before moving onto the next, doing her best to control and contain the flames.

Roaring, fires, there's movement that comes from the tank and then nothing. Soon enough Cian appears beside Iris and Miranda, the wisp is drenched in whatever those things were made of, almost from the neck down basically. Whispering quietly when he leans closer, "Did we win? How can I help?" he asks.

"Rolling in the dirt," Iris says a bit absently as she watches the water leap around. "That just might work, at least for getting off some of it. Either that or it will make things worse." She looks at Miranda, points a claw at the water that's moving around, and says, "that's pretty good. I couldn't do better myself." Then she gives Cian a shrug and says, "good job with the tankk. It looks like the gunslinger has things covered for the fire. I think I'm going to go see what I can do to get some of this crap off of me, and then go to Market. Are you going to keep following me?" It doesn't sound like she minds if he does, though.

Talbot leaves back to Temp RP Rooms

New Activity ---------

The water stays well away from the gross people, but continues attacking the fire in the trees. "Mmmn, the fire will be out soon enough, I suspect. We do not want it causing much damage around here." She says, glancing sidelong towards the Darkling. "Can you put out fires? Or perhaps help clean Iris here?"

Cian takes a moment to consider his options, looking down at himself and his satchel now soaked in ick all over again. He glances towards Miranda asmiles a little, "We keep running into these things," comes his hushed voice, like low volume setting. A glance is stolen back at Iris and he tries not to blush, but instead his cheeks get a little more transluscent, almost disappearing. "I think she is capable of cleaning herself, but no, I am of no use to putting out fires," starting them on the other hand! Glancing at Iris he whispers, "I can follow you to market if you'd like me to?"

"I'll be fine," Iris says with an airy wave of her hand, not making it clear whether she means that about getting clean, or Cian following her, or what. "I don't mind company, though. Just don't bother following if you're going to be offended by a naked dragon, because I'm damned well going to get myself clean as soon as possible." She turns and starts heading off toward the market again. "You all did good today! And well, too!"

And then all the crazy rainbow lights she filled the air with wink out.

Cian mouthgapes a little like he had something to say, instead his features nearly blink out of existance as he blushes something fierce. Or well, they would if his face wasn't covered in goop. "Maybe next time," he whispers to the dragon before she goes off to be naked. No. Bad Darkling. He focuses on the fire and Miranda for a moment and smiles, "Let me know when you want to speak again, I'll be around and easy to get hold of," he promises and then he ninja vanishes.
