The Wayhouse has a few visitors and people milling about. Though one of the visitors has stolen a chair and is seated as she speaks with one of the Waykeepers. Ashe has a cup of tea settled on the bookshelf next to her and she seems to be in a good enough mood for the moment. She's dressed in a red sweater dress and brown boots. The woman having shunned her black wardrobe for the seasons colors. Though it is likely that at least one of the Waykeepers has reported the difficulty (or annoyance) of keeping tabs of the man known as Cornelius Rex, he comes by the Wayhouse two or three times a day simply to check messages. Perhaps that is why he enters now, pushing a cracked window further open and slipping inside rather than walking around to the other side of the building to use the door. As soon as he enters, hardly a sound to be heard in the eccentric movement, he turns to push the window back to the almost closed position it was at before. A hair back, a smidge forward... Perfect. Maxwell gives a look up when someone else enters. Did someone just crawl through the window? That's peculiar. He gives a whisper to the Monarch at that. Ashe gives a chuckle to whatever is said and then she settles her hands on her knees as she leans forward, "Good afternoon." she calls to Cornelius. She at least lets him get through the window fully. Turning around and seeing not only new faces, but one wearing a crown, Cornelius gives a liquid yet alien bow. He moves as if he has no bones to limit his fluidity, and that grants him a grace and awkwardness all of its own. "Pardon the interruption," he says in a confident urban accent that all but begs a challenge. "Either you're here for me or you're not, but either way," he gives an unassuming shrug. "I'd like to steal a moment of your majesty's time." The light reflects off the gold in his eyes as he looks over at Maxwell and adds an unrestrainedly casual, "Just tell me if I'm doing something wrong, pal. Been a minute since I was in the presence and all that." Ashe gives a look to Cornelius and there's a bit of a chuckle, "I'm here for people who are wanting to speak to the Crown and pledge to the Freehold. Or for anyone that wants to speak to me." she states. "You're fine. It's just not a way we usually see people enter the house. Unless they're being sneaky." she muses. Maxwell gives a chuckle to that, "You're fine. This is the Autumn Monarch. You can speak with her if you are ready." he states as he gives a bit of a nod. "The door," the petitioner begins with a sloppy wave of an arm towards the object he mentions, "is all the way over there. So yeah." He walks away to grab an empty seat, drags it over to where he feels it should be and plops down in front of the monarch. Reaching beneath it and making quite the interesting face as he tries to find something blindly, he pulls out a bottle that was hidden beneath the upholstery. It is a wine bottle; label torn halfway off. "I'm Cornelius Rex," he states as he unplugs the half-inserted cork. "I'm from Chicago. Did some stuff there." He pauses to take a long drink, recap the bottle, and toss it over towards Maxwell. It is quite chilled from Cornelius's touch. "I'd like to do some stuff here now." His eyes finally settle on Ashe's. "I can give you a list of recommendations the length of my tail, but, well, I can tell people have been vetting me already." He leans forward as if the Waykeeper will not be able to hear him, "They ain't the sneakiest about it." Ashe watches with a bit of an amused look, crossing one knee over the other and settling her hands into her lap, "Welcome to Fate's Harvest, Mister Rex." she tells him. "And what exactly did you do in Chicago?" she asks him. "We don't really do the recommendation thing. It's your word that gives a pledge strength. Should you want to." she states. "And what would you like to do here?" she asks him. "As it should be," Cornelius says in clear approval of not trusting people based off the word of others. "What would I like to do? Frankly, traitors are everywhere. Now, now." He holds up both hands as if to stop a defense preemptively. "I'm not here to start a witch hunt, but as a member of my knighthood I'd be remiss to not have some amount of suspicion by default. Loyalists are far more numerous than I think anyone would like to admit. I'd like to carry out my work as a Knight of the Dragonslayer while supporting the Winter Court. I'm also willing to join your militia," there is mirth in his eyes, "should you be able to find a lieutenant that will put up with me." "I'm aware of the Dragonslayers. You're not the first one that has been in Fate's Harvest." Ashe tells him. She doesn't seem like she's going to clutch pearls or anything else over it. "The Winter Court here is quiet, which might not be shocking. As for the Harvestmen, you could talk with them once you have been given the laws and pledged to be recognized as a recruit." she tells him. "Alright." His eyes linger on her smile for moment before he continues. "I'm ready to pledge to Fate's Harvest, and from there things will just sort of sort themselves out." He looks over at Maxwell. "Should I kneel and bow my head, or is this more of a handshake kinda freehold?" Whether it is a serious question or teasing is not apparent. Ashe gives a chuckle to that. Then a look to Maxwell, "You've read the Laws to him and all of that?" she asks him. When he nods to her she then stands. "You don't have to kneel. My ego is very small." she chuckles. "If you will repeat after me." she instructs. "I pledge my time, my talents and my fealty to Fate's Harvest." she starts. "I swear that I no longer serve the Fae, nor will I while this promise stands; that while I am under its protection I will obey the principles and bylaws of the Fate's Harvest Freehold as ratified by Monarch and Council, in return for the support and safety they provide." "May I perish in exile, should I be forsworn." Though Cornelius is not required to kneel, he does bow his head respectfully as he repeats the words and swears fealty. When he finishes the oath, he lifts his head and taps a claw to his heart. "I trust that should any seasonal laws come to pass, someone will let little ol' me know about it." He stands from his seat and steps forward--extending a hand towards Ashe as he does so. Ashe gives a smile when Cornelius is done and the Wyrd doesn't smack anyone. Yay. "We'll post all Law changes and things of that nature, yes." she nods to that. She reaches out and gives his hand a shake, "Welcome to the Freehold, Sir Rex. Should you need anything, please feel free to ask about or find a Waykeeper to assist. Also, as a token of the season, take this pin. You can wear it if you like or whatever you like." she tells him as she offers it to him. The handshake is a cold one, but Cornelius's expression does not match it. He seems satisfied with the encounter. Taking the pin, he clips it beside the clasp that keeps his Hedgespun robe around his neck. "May our meetings always be so pleasant. Though, if we meet in a less public setting?" He steps in a little closer--likely close enough to make a bodyguard clench--and says at a volume that is not low enough to be unheard, "I'm totally gonna give you a nickname." That said, he begins his strange walk towards the door, though there is plenty of time to reply before he will be out it. When Cornelius steps in there's a bat that drops down and hisses at him. Too close Will Robinson! Ashe however looks amused, "Just as long as the nickname doesn't sound like anything my husband calls me." she chuckles. "Have a good day, Cornelius." she tells him as he heads for the door. |
