Participants | 18 May, 2018 Two Darklings chance upon each other in the pitch black night. |

Darkness. Beautiful Darkness. Nuit is standing on the Southbridge, the only light the stars and the moon above, and that is a thin crescent. The clouds block most of that light. Sure, out in rural vermont its easy to get away from light polution, but now all the lights in the little town are off and that makes it even easier for there to be -real- darkness. And Nuit loves it. Her ever present cyan glow has dampened down to almost nothing, and her little balls of light that usually are found bobbing around her are no where to be seen. She just stands on the edge of the Southbridge, looking north (so the lights of Fort Brunsette don't interfere) and she enjoys it immensely. Darkness draws the attention of another Darkling whose presence has yet to be seen. He moves within it as kith would with kin. The alien familiarity of this ever so tenebrous night comes with a long, contended sigh until he catches sight of Nuit by way of the darkness. "Are you lost?" he bellows without a care, as if one bogeyman shouting for the attention of another. The humans might've have seen a simple, odd vagrant, but with any maner of true sight his abyssal nature is plain to see even when cast among the shadows of a night so pregnant with darkness. Nuit turns, slowly, her hands within her cloak. Shadows cling around her in much more than a metaphorical way as she does, pulling up and shaking their tendrils about until they look like they are going to choke her. "We all are, in a way," she says in her whisper voice, that is nonetheless clear and easily heard. "I am Lost," she says the proper noun clear. "But I am not lost... much." A shrug. "I'm Nuit. You... are strong." "No, I am me. If I was just strong I'd be-" Void shrugs, clearly unaware where even he may have been headed with this. "And I wouldn't say I'm lost. I know where I'm going - always and forever." The closer he draws the more his voice carries the sounds of many more with it in a soft, lilting echo. "If you're lost you should go home, but-" He lifts his arms and spreads them as if presenting the night to her. "Or is this your home?" There is a raspy sound like sandpaper across sandpaper. A laugh? "This is not my home. I am not lost." She shakes her head, then turns and looks back into the night. "It is times like this, with no light, with the moon almost gone, that I finally feel free. Finally... alone." Never mind that she isn't alone. "Who are you?" "You're never alone." Void's eyes momentarily glow brighter than normal within a beat, and he nods as if to confirm it. "But I take it you haven't taken that road. That's probably for the best. Me? I'm the void, and this-" he stops to look around him, slowly turning in a complete circle before facing Nuit again. "This is home. It's almost beautiful. Almost." A nod of her head later, Nuit falls silent to look into the darkness, the slight reflection of stars and moon off the water below. "Alone is not bad. Alone is good. Sometimes." She shrugs then leans against the railing of the bridge, hands out of her cloak and watching silently into the darkness. "The Void. Yes. Perhaps you are. Do you know what caused the outtage?" For a being of such power he gives an almost feckless shrug in answer. "I don't know, and it's not really a concern of mine. The darkness is as it is, and it reminds humanity of what to be afraid of. Things always looking at the corner of your vision that you just can't point out. Why, though? If you want the power back on I can likely summon something that may help." For a moment Nuit eyes him, curious as to his mantle, his court, his alliegeance. She doesn't find anything worth noting, and turns back to the dark river rushing below. "Fuck them," she whispers, suddenly angry. It is an unusual emotion as her pale cyan turns into a magenta. "Fuck them all." The color shifts back to blue as fast as it left, and any anger in her voice dissapears too. "Do you care what mortals feel? Those like us, we are so far away from them. Almost as far away as they are from ants and flies. Do we care? Should we care?" Void remains silent, his gaze unblinking as he looks upon Nuit. "Yes, I do care. About some of them. The ones that find their safety in numbers so helpful. They find succor in their greed, and in turn they are of no use to anyone but themselves. I do and will watch out for each and everyone I meet on the crossroads, nothing more and nothing less. What they feel? What they feel doesn't matter since they're too blind to see the light and the darkness whether they want to or not." Nuit's head tilts to the side, curious. "Yes. Herd. I suppose this is understandable." For the darkling who travels alone (who is never alone) who fights alone and who kills alone, this means nothing. "Perhaps that is worth it enough. I do not care. But I can let others care, for me." She shakes her head. "I can let others do a lot." "Herd? It works in a way, but if they're herd I must be a dinosaur that shouldn't even be a live anymore, huh?" He laughs, a low rumbling thing along with the voices. "But why can't you care? I bet you're young enough that you got mortals still living that yo uknow." The head tilt again, a shake of her head. "I am not young." Nuit says then she shakes her head once more. "And any mortals I once knew I know no longer. Probably She Took them. She does that. If not, perhaps they were sold to her. She buys." Another shrug. "I could care. I do not. There is nothing... " she raises a hand up to her temple, waving it slightly "That does." "So you were around for the great wars too, huh? I'd ask how you got outta people asking about the draft, but our situations look a bit different." He laughs again, shaking his head as he comes down from that mirthful notion. "You said you could care. What stops you? Caring got somebody killed?" Another blink. "No." She doesn't comment on the great war thing. "No, it simply is..." She shrugs. "Not in the cards." She turns to him, then shakes her head. "The Void and the Night. What a combination. Goodnight The Void. The Night waves at you, and when you stare back it will not react." She tips her head then turns off into the the darkness. |
