Talk:Dusk Court
Influence Titles and Freehold Positions
Lets get this stuff sorted!
Note! I understand the book makes a point that the Dusk Court does not have a real formal Hierarchy. However, at Fates Harvest there is a requirement to gain Influence in the Freehold there is the requirement of Influence 3 requires holding a court position within the Freehold, such as Ranger of the Thorns. - Now we could all get positions in Harvestmen or other Freehold groups, but it be nice to have some of our own too! I tried to make these ranks as 'little hierarchy' as possible and more a general understanding that this is what the duties imply (Besides Steadfast Axe and Sergeants Black that is)
- Influence Five - The Steadfast Axe
Possible Description - The leader of the Dusk Court, the Steadfast Axe is the one who must balance both sides of the Dusk Court. Both the Gallants and the Unfettered. They must understand the sides of the Dusk Court, know that some wish to drive themselves forward for glory and legend, and others wish to loose their morals and give in to decadence and freedom from any moral responsibility. They serve the Freehold by being a foil to other powerful voices. When the Summer Wroth General Calescence speaks of Glory and Demands battle, the Fatalistic Steadfast Axe drives home caution and knowledge that all possible disastrous events are fated to happen. When the Winter Lord of Unbidden Mourning cautions patience and prudence, the Steadfast Axe must push for action, knowing that only through action can we leave a mark when Fate has already determined our outcome.
- Influence Four - The Sergeants Black
Possible Description - There are usually only 2 Sergeants Black in a given area. One embodies the Gallants, pushing for glory, legend, and leaving their mark on history. The other follows the Unfettered path, amoral and without conscious to their action. These Two Sergeants are leaders of the factions. Picked by those who follow the philosophy of their Sergeant, their duty is to represent that ideal to the Steadfast Axe and the Freehold. Not that they are always listened to though. Dusk is about free will, most often.
- Influence Four - Res Judicata
Possible Description - These Mantle 4 Dusk Courtiers are powerful in the Court, but either do not follow closely to one of the two factions, or do not wish to lead those factions. They still are expected to provide leadership for those in the court. Res Judicata means 'It has been decided,' and Res Judicata are often called upon for the less savory tasks that require a steady hand and a cold heart.
- Influence Three - The Unbroken Soldiers
Possible Description - Either Gallant or Unfettered, or somewhere in between, these Dusk Members know that their place is to continue to act. By this time a Dusk has chosen which philosophy they fall closer to, and as an Unbroken Soldier they are expected to draw upon their philosophy to further the goals of the Court.
- Influence Two - The Lightsworn
Possible Description - Dusk Courtiers of this rank must be coming to terms with the fact that Fate has already been decided. The Dusk Courtiers of this rank must be showing they understand this to advance.
- Influence One - Nightfall Conscript
Possible Description - Learn the ideals of the court. Prove your worth. Understand that Fate has been decided already, but what you do with that knowledge defines you.
Freehold Positions
- Doomcaller (Mantle 3) - It is the Doomcaller's responsibility to look for the pitfalls in the plans of the Freehold. It is their responsible to always give advice on the bad that may happen, the dark of decisions. It is their responsibility to remind the Crown and Council that their decisions have consequences, and that they must take into account these dire results for their actions if they wish to proceed.
- Free Will Ambassador (Mantle 3) - The Free Will Ambassador goal is to make sure that the individual rights of the changelings are respected. That they are not down trodden and overrun by those more powerful than them. Here in Fate's Harvest that often means looking out for those of small Wyrd against those of Higher.
- Templar Nox (Mantle 2) - The Templar Nox are bodyguards. Knowing that you are fated to die can often lead to a better appreciation of giving your life for another. The Templar Nox can be hired out by other Changelings and asked to protect them in dangerous situations - for a contribution to the Court of course.
- The Black Cat (Mantle 4) - The Black cat is a secretive position. Known only to a few - the Sergeants Black and the Axe, as well as the Crown and Council, the Black Cat's goal is to facilitate illegal activity the Freeholds members may be involved in. There will always be changelings invovled in crime. And while they may not know who the Black Cat is, he or she is the one who will be watching for their actions and to make sure that they do not harm the Freehold.
Court Roles
Gallants - The Gallants are a faction within the Dusk court who understand that because their fate has already been decided it is best to be as legendary and glorious as possible to be remembered beyond their death. They will die, but before they do they will known for their actions and their deeds. They are the Heroes of stories, and the ones who seek the glory within the Dusk Court. If in the end we all must die, say the Gallants, why not take every risk or challenge and strive to outdo what others think is possible
Unfettered - Opposite of the Gallants, the Unfettered see the burden of fate as a reason to toss their morals aside. Fate has already decided what will happen, therefore there is no need to take responsibility for their actions. They lean towards the view that, if everything is destined to destruction, then the niceties of social mores, traditions and laws are really pointless and designed only to postpone the inevitable. They tend to see those who are bound by such constraints as either sheep, slowly but surely being led towards their slaughter, or as pawns, tools and resources to be used by those forward-thinking enough to tap into them.
