A bunch of people meet at Carnivale, seemingly at random. Interesting discussion follows.

Location

Club Carnivale

Monday nights aren't particularly busy at Club Carnivale, not like the weekends. The midway games are running, however, and there are some people on the dance floor, but the cacophony that is a weekend night isn't nearly the din that it usually is. Back in the bar area, recessed away in the space between the Midway and the Main Event lounge, is Joel. There, he stands behind the bar serving the one or two patrons who are currently enjoying some froofy drinks with cotton candy on top. He idly watches people come and go with those solid black eyes, leaning against the counter. There's currently no show going on in the lounge so the majority of people are out in the main room.

Lucky comes in through the front door, dressed in simple black attire, shaggy hair tucked neatly under a knit cap. Moving over to have a seat at the bar as he digs through his pockets with gloved hands, thumbing through a stack of bills he pulls out. A bright, "Hey, there," is offered to Joel, accompanied by a bright smile. "How's business tonight?"

It's actually probably specifically because it's not a busy hour that Misty shows up when she does. She's dressed casually, and is carrying a small backpack. She takes a look around as she walks through the club, curious and maybe not totally sure of the surroundings, intentionally 'weird' as some of them are - and ditto the performers. Past all of them, she continues toward the bar and looks around a little before she spots Joel working, and moves to the bar across from him. Lucky, who's right there belly up as well, gets a quick flash of a closed-mouth smile before her attention turns back to Joel. "Hey again... dunno if you remember, I was in here the other night."

John arrives in the new nightclub and has a very careful look around, fading into the background while observing the folk within. Knowing no one present, the easily blendable man takes a backseat as he scans those present for changelings and approaches to observe before joining them.

"It's Monday business," Joel says to Lucky with a bit of a shrug of his shoulders, and a bit of a smile. "What can I get you?" While he's waiting to take Lucky's order, he glances back over toward Misty as she moves up toward the bar. "Oh, hey. Yeah, I remember." He glances at her backpack and ssks, "Whatchya bring me?" as though expecting a present of some kind, though despite the question, it seems clear that he's joking.

The Club has actually been around for years, first owned by Joel's uncle, who retired, leaving it to him.

Lucky looks down at his available cash, considering. "Let's start with a beer?" he asks, as if somehow unsure. "Whatever's good. I'll let you decide. Just, you know, maybe something that doesn't come in a diamond-encrusted bottle, or happens to be filled with gold flakes. Middling. Maybe." This one is clearly a big drinker. "And hey, Monday business in a small town is usually good business. Every day is Friday when there's not much else to do."

It's notable, that while the crowd is somewhat light, the very act of Misty conversing with the bartender causes said one or two patrons that might be lingering around to end up staring in her direction. Her voice simply has that effect, luring and distracting. It's a mixed bag. "Hmm?" she wonders back at the bartender, and then, catching the joke a moment, gives an airy, laugh. "Oh, haha, no. I just thought uh, you know, if I was going to see about dancing here, that I'd come by and bring something to change into. Not that I had anything um, you know, like... circus-y."

Who should come in the door but a couple who are giving off all the body language of being Together even if it's unlikely anyone has seen them together in public before. That would be Kyle and Sorcha, who to any Lost are certainly more than meets the eye. It's like a couple of animals coming in off the street, with Kyle's half of that equation being a very cat-like man in dressed down comfortable street clothes of the jeans and nerd-shirt variety. When he enters he remarks in the hearing of everyone, "...and I don't know anybody here." Big grin though! It's not a problem for him.

The way that she moves beside him, in perfect pace, does suggest that yes, she's With Kyle. Or at least Has Been With. The more vulpine of the two has ears twitching to catch sounds, and her amber eyes flit about. "I like it," she says with a grin that flashes those too-long canines. Tail swooshing behind her, the body language is all barely restrained energy. "Hey, neither do I. Even footing, for a change." She's in her own jeans, a top that blends from blue to green. Her hair is a wild mass of curls, as if the wind has had a blast playing with it today.

"Pretty sure I can find you something not diamond-encrusted," Joel says to Lucky with a grin and pours him something local on tap, a rich reddish hued ale. This, he deposits in front of Lucky and says, "And true enough. There are some things to do around here, but the weekend crowds are still the busiest. People have to sleep sometimes." He then smiles over at Misty when she explains the backpack and says, "There's no show at the moment, so if you want to audition, you're welcome to give it a go in a bit once my relief gets in. Can I get you something to drink in the meantime?"

It's a Monday night and so things aren't terribly crowded. There are some people on the dance floor, a few up at the bar nestled between the Midway and the Main Event lounge. There doesn't appear to be a show tonight, so people are mostly milling around the Midway area, playing some of the games.

Lucky nods his thanks to the bartender, taking a trial sip before diving into the mug too deeply. Though he does listen to Misty's story curiously, cocking his head to the side. "You're a dancer?" he asks, raising a curious eyebrow. "By trade, or necessity? Sorry," he says. "Just curious. People tend to be one or the other. Each of them have a different kind of interesting story." John, who has decided to hang in the background, doesn't get noticed. But the other two that came in most certainly do. Lucky turns to watch the happy couple, the smile widening a bit. "Everyone has to sleep," he agrees with Joel as he raises his beer to the (apparently new) couple, "but nobody has to sleep alone."

It's neat when you're Lost and you see someone else with obviously not-human features so you can approach them knowing you have something in common. That's why Kyle grins big at Lucky even though he has no idea who the guy is and kind of guides himself and Sorcha in that direction. "Any specials on drinks tonight if I'm seen with somebody foxy?"

"Yeah, that's cool," Misty answers, in amiable, carefree fashion. "I don't really have any other steady gig right now, so y'know, nothing but time!" Amidst the melodic, hypnotic notes of her unnatural voice, she flashes a sharp-toothed grin that is somewhat at odds with the rest of her. The woman happily takes a stool, leaning on the bar with her elbow, looking across at Lucky, though she'll finish answering Joel first: "Um, just whatever's on tap." Then she answers the other man's question: "I guess option two. I got uh... identity problems, if you know what I mean?" Wink wink. "So legit work is kind of hard to come by."

The next pair to enter don't have any such declarative body language as the prior couple. If, in fact, Gisa has any sort of body language at all, it's preceded by a few chords of Paul Simon strumming, and is sung by angsty teenagers everywhere. Only she takes it literally. The living earth being holds the door for Strix, then follows him in. "... opened recently," she explains to her fellow Elemental, "or at least I have not been here since I was back." She's got a new t-shirt on, having gotten rid of that green sweater she was wearing all the time. The shirt might be Kyle's fault, or it might just be the one she pulled off the top of the pile of new stock at the bookstore. Stretched across broad shoulders and clay biceps and hey golems got boobs I guess. Anyway, the front reads: SHOMER FUCKING SHABBAS. "There is good wine, maybe. I am out at home until tomorrow."

There's a roll of eyes from Sorcha at the foxy comment. "So clever," is teased, and she gives him a jostle with her shoulder. A familiar gesture, a warm one. Just like following where he leads seem to be for the petite redhead. But there's a bright, winning smile given towards Lucky, a flash of a wink. "I avoid doing that when I can. Harder to steal warmth when there's no one to steal it from, right?"

"Wine? Never was one for fermented brews.." Strix responds in a conversational aside on his way in, he bobs his head at Gisa for holding the door and then pauses just inside to peer around at the space. "Interesting decor." The Manikin has one strange white eye that moves faster than his amber one and the artifical lens above his fake eye shutters sharply at the new sights. A subtle clicking as the telescopic gold lens snapped shut several time in rapid succession. "Seems adequate." He starts to head in deeper, waiting for Gisa before he gestures to the bar in a silent query before deciding on his seat. The narrow shouldered fellow settles onto his bar stool with a particular, almost preening, manner.

Joel chuckles a little bit, though at what is difficult to tell, those solid black eyes do nothing to give away which direction he might be looking in, which can be a little creepy, and yet the smile on his lips is friendly enough. His head, at least, turns in Misty's direction at Lucky's question, perhaps curious as to her answer as well. He nods then and says, "Well, we'll see if we can't get you hooked up with something regular then, hm?" When Kyle and Sorcha get close enough to the bar, he nods to both of them in greeting and says, "This round is on me, for everyone at the bar." The fact that all those at the bar are Lost is probably the reason why. "What are you having?" he asks the couple.

As soon as he hears Gisa's voice Kyle lights up. He also has some happiness to Joel offering drinks on the house. "Whiskey sour, if you please sir! And my gratitude for as long as the drink lasts. Gisa!" He makes a big point of waving to her and welcoming her closer. His next words are for Sorcha. "I have to introduce you. It's a requirement." At least he sounds like it's a good requirement!

Lucky was already pulling out more money, apparently to buy a round... though the bartender beat him to it. What luck! Putting his money away, he offers everyone there a bright smile. "Depends on if you can keep her up long enough to see the sunrise," Lucky tells Kyle in return. Anyone close enough to him might notice that things around him seem a little different, like the moment right before everyone realizes something is about to fall. It's just a feeling. But it's there. "And I doubt that a, uh, vixen like yourself has many problems there," he tells Sorcha by way of response. "No offense," he adds to Kyle. Vixen because fox, naturally. He tries to keep his tone respectful. Though turning back to Joel and Misty, he says, "Legtimate work is fine. It's not nearly as -fun- as other kinds of work. But it's a good way to keep the money flowing. And stay out of jail. Usually." Though as the golem and the owl come up to the bar, he offers them a wave. "Nice to see you both again." Even if he only met one of them in passing as she was excusing herself.

"And like, though I wouldn't call myself a pro or anything, I've done it before, got some moves. I mean, I'm a pretty good draw, even besides," Misty points out, and in many ways, this is a colossal understatement. She already has some fans among the couple of people who were lingering on the bar, who look like they're hanging on her every sweet word. One is even coming up to offer to buy a drink, and half way into offering, when Joel's generosity makes it moot. Still, she flashes the unknown man a smile in thanks all the same, before looking back and surreptitiously rolling her eyes to her other Lost. "See?" And then a nod at Lucky. "I mean, if I could, I would. Just real hard filing tax paperwork and that kind of stuff, when someone else is using your identity, y'know?" The newer arrivals are then offered a welcoming, dagger-toothed smile, a general sort of greeting to her fellow Lost even if she doesn't know many of them individually.

"I'm sure there is soda," answers the golem, moving not precisely slowly but of a purpose toward the bar. The golem catches up to Strix easily enough, because she doesn't actually move very slowly, just as if every step she takes is done with purpose, with an exacting knowledge of what the consequences of that might be. The sound of her name being called causes her eye-flames to spark and the shin on her forehead to flare brightly. She taps Strix on the shoulder, gently, the gesture almost a brush along his shoulder. Pet the owl's shoulder if you want to not startle him. "Kyle is calling us," she rumbles, her voice a box full of pebbles being shaken. "Come." And toward Kyle she ambles. "Brother mine," she greets, reaching out to pet Kyle's ears absently. "You already have permission." Whatever that means. She'll order in a minute, one guesses.

"A whiskey sour sounds delightful to start out the night," Sorcha muses. There's a slight lilt to her voice, an edging of a Scottish accent in some places. "One can hope that their partner lasts until the sun comes up," she says back to Lucky. "But a lady never tells." There's a waggle of brows that suggests that maybe, just maybe, she might not be such. But then she's being told that there are introductions to be made, and she turns around to face the same direction that the cat is, looking around him so that he can see who he's gesturing to come over. "Hi," she offers, amber eyes darting over the other duo, another quick flash of that fanged smile.

The brush across his shoulder doesn't make Strix, the mechanical owl, alert but when he turns to see that Kyle is a Cat there is a flush of unspoken panic. His lack of social graces is reflexive when the feathered crest atop his head stands up in an apparent gesture of stand offishness even as he bade, "Pleasure to make your aquaintances." His tone is an even monotone, the rare inflection is only applied to give the illusion of a superior smug edge. He adds conversationally, for Misty's benefit judging by his odd gaze, "I dabble in such things, the parts of my brain that still remember what it was like to be a sheriff, in conjunction with my meticulous nature..." He hoots and folds his hands on the bar top, "A fake ID is... possible." The subtle whirring of gear in his face indicate he's considering possibilities as he adds idly to Gisa, "Too much sugar in soda. Bad for the gears."

"You also have permission." echoes Kyle to his best golem friend, as it's become some kind of secret code they share. "Gisa! So hey, I see you got a new friend with you and I really wanna meet this one, but look here. This is Sorcha. She knows me. Actually kind of better than I know myself. It's complicated and very much a story I need to share with you later." Like not in a bar. "Sorcha, this is Gisa. I met her when I came to the Freehold and she has become my best friend. We have each other's backs and there is not much I wouldn't do for her. Gisa and Sorcha, meet and be awesome together!" Then finally his attention turns toward Strix and he offers a sharp-toothed grin. "Hi! I love your look." One presumes it is very birdy and he likes birds. Maybe.

"Two whiskey sours," Joel syas with a nod to Kyle and Sorcha, and turns to fix them their drinks while the newest arrivals make themselves comfortable. Only once they've settled and he's deposited the two drinks does he turn back to Gisa and Strix and asks, "What'll it be? First round is on the house." The whole exchange of permission between Kyle and Gisa draws a curious glance from Joel, though he doesn't turn his head that way, so it's difficult to tell. Still, he seems intrigued. Turning toward Misty he says, "It seems that you're already drawing yourself a crowd. I may just hire you to sit at the bar and attract customers."

"Strix is my friend, we are Of A Kind," explains Gisa to Kyle, and she looks over her shoulder at the mechanicowl. "It's okay. He will not hurt you." The golem stops, stands quietly, listening as Kyle explains things one to the other, fox to golem, golem to fox. "Shalom, Sorcha. It is good to have a friend that helps you remember." Another pass at Kyle's ears, a gentle gesture, which probably looks like she's ruffling her friend's hair to anyone who can't see miens, and she steps back a bit, taking a seat by Strix. Well, between Strix and Kyle. See? Problem solved. "This is Strix, this is Kyle. Kyle is my best friend. Strix is a fellow reader of books." And then she turns her attention to Joel, and her eyeflames blink off and on again. "Wine, please? Red and sweet. Or blackberry wine, of a preference. And whatever he wants. He is picky." This, about Strix.

"You ever need someone to run some kind of game for you," Lucky tells Joel, "look me up. I can help turn a pretty profit, if you cut me in a percentage." Because who does anything for free? Though the reunion between the foursome off to the side has him smiling brightly. "Yeah," he tells Kyle. "He must have great taste." Because that's exactly what you say to the cat who's staring down the bird. Turning to Sorcha, he says, "Sometimes, not-telling is half the fun." And then, back to Misty, "I've been there before. I know how it goes. Then again," he says, "I don't think I've ever been in a position to -not- lie on a tax return, so half the time I kind of don't bother."

"Well said." Strix agrees to Gisa comment of them being 'of a kind.' Strix turns a wide grin on Joel, "Its true, I eat like a.." He trails off into a laugh that suspiciously like a hooting trill to the other Lost. "Just a coffee, black. If you have it, espresso.. mayhaps." The origin of his accent is somewhere in New England, hint of Maine to the well travelled ear.

"I mean, if you want to pay me to sit around the bar and chit-chat," because, though she may be pretty in a normal, mortal enough way, that is not really anything exceptional nor worthy of such fawning attention. It's *definitely* her voice that has earned her the instant fan-club, and proves a constant distraction to all around her. "I wouldn't say no." Misty shrugs. "Though uh, gotta be careful, can end up causing fights and stuff too." She's not bragging, sadly, this is just one of those troublesome facts of life courtesy of her Keeper. "Misty," she'll offer by way of introduction, since those are going around. But then there's the fake ID thing to consider, "Might actually be worth looking into, though I couldn't pay you much for it. Though it's still hard to get work with forged info, usually. I mean, I've been through the ringer with this, and I have some contacts but..." In the end, that bitch gotta die?

The bartender isn't the only one to lift brows at the exchange. There's a bit of curiosity from Sorcha too, as she watches Kyle and Gisa interact. But then there's drinks, and the vixen turns to snag her own glass, lifting it in salute to Joel. A glance towards Misty, before she's turning back to get back to those introductions. "Good to meet you, Gisa. Kyle mentioned you, and it's niceto have a face with the name of his new best friend." A wave of fingers, towars Strix, for their own hello, as she sips her drink.

"Hey I am Not that kind of guy." says Kyle in protest to Lucky, although he takes it in stride it would seem. There's good humor there. He takes his on-the-house drink and waits for Sorcha to have hers before offering his glass to touch hers. This is all a natural motion which doesn't even necessitate him looking at Sorcha to do it. He's mainly looking to Gisa and Strix and telling them, "You look very appropriate together." There's a wink there as he maybe teases Gisa just a little." Once he's touched his glass to Sorcha's he has a drink of it. And the ear-petting and stuff? He even leans into it. Gisa is okay for doing this to him even if it may perhaps seem belittling to some.

Joel considers Lucky and says, "I am hiring. We should talk. Perhaps after Misty's audition." He then says to those gathered, "Joel," by way of introduction, "Proprietor and Barkeep." And then he is moving off for a couple of moments to go fix Strix an espresso and pour some sweet red wine for Gisa, a dessert wine of sorts. He brings both back and sets each in front of its recipient before glancing around and seeing who might need refills. He takes care of those as well as he listens to the banter back and forth of those around him.

One can't see Gisa rolling her eyes, because she hasn't got eyes, but there is a definite sense that she is giving Kyle an eyeroll and a side-eye all at once. Magic. She snorts at Kyle's teasing comment, shakes her head. "I learnt a new word," she informs Kyle. "Apparently 'besties' is a word, it means your best friend, who is also a girl. And it is different to one's best friend. Because of girl." Her accent is a soft, but distinct, Israeli accent, which probably explains why she has to explain the word 'besties.' American slang, kiddos. "I did not hear about you," she admits to Sorcha, "so I will have to learn about you." Which seems to suit her just fine. "Thank you," she offers to Joel, and then raises her wineglass in his direction. "L'chaim." Toast the bartender first, it's best luck.

Strix returns the fingerwave from Sorcha with a curious bob of his head and his odd gaze remains twisted to face the loose knit gathering of Lost on the far side of the golem seated beside him. "To Life." Strix agrees in english as he raises his little espresso cup in echo to Gisa toast. He grins his silent thanks to the barkeep when the coffee is delivered with an introduction. Gisa had already said his name and he's a studious sort, watching all of them for a few long moments as he sips his drink while its still hot.

"Lucky," the ungrouped man at the bar says by way of introduction, raising a hand. "Nice to meet you all." Most of the talk just sort of goes on around him, so he doesn't pay too much attention to most of it. Instead, he turns back to Misty, he says, "If he's gonna pay you to sit at the bar, you should take it. I mean, if I could get paid to sit at a bar and drink, I'd totally do it. I've gotta, like, do tricks and shit to make ends meet." And then, back to Joel, "Dude, have you seen all the pervs drooling at her?" He thumbs around the bar, as if to indicate where they might be. "I'd say she passed her audition on that alone." And then, back to Kyle, he adds, "Everyone's that kind of guy in the right scenario. Just depends on when the opportunity arises." Though it's with good humor as well.

A clink of glass, and Sorcha smiles for it. Familiar, yes, and natural. Even as her smile slips a bit at the words from Gisa about Kyle not mentioning her. "Aye. He wouldn't have," she says softly, before turning in her chair slightly, looking to Joel. "Good to meet you, and thank you for the drink. Perhaps I might drop by later, as well, and discuss. I have a background in performance, and while it wasn't quite..." A gesture, "This. It might be a good fit. Just a few nights. As you might need me. But not tonight. You already have your hands full, there." A quick flash of smile from the vixen, and it's extended towards Lucky as he introduces himself, eyes crinkling with amusement in the corners.

"I never eat anyone who can talk." remarks Kyle with an air of nose-in-the-air haughtiness to Lucky, which is followed by a clearing of the throat and a rather obvious shushing motion at Sorcha. Because he doesn't want her comments on that topic! His whiskey sour begins to disappear rather quickly though, because he likes taking gulps instead of sips, and soon is ordering a new one from Joel. This one of course to be paid for. That's how you reward free drinks, by being sure to buy one! "So Gisa, you're saying I can't be your bestie because I'm not female enough for it? What's the male equivalent for bestie?"

Maybe it's due to the overwhelming couples numbers, that Misty scoots her stool over (ostensiably amidst other general movement at the bar, as the others are finding spots) to be a little closer to Lucky, and reseats herself so she's looking back to the others, forming a faux pair on that side to balance things out. Solidarity? "I wouldn't turn it down!" she agrees with Lucky. "But I figure I ain't getting off quite that easy." She shrugs. "I don't mind, really. I've worked some shady joints, this place seems pretty... I dunno, posh? Colorful? At least a little more classy, by comparison." She'll hoist her glass in agreement with the toast, even if she can't entirely keep up with 100 of the conversations, either. But that's kind of normal at a bar, people shouting all over each other.

When Strix echoes her toast, but in English, the golem leans to clink her glass against his mug. Hopefully that's not a distaster, because they're certainly not in sync, the mechanicowl and the golem. But she's dexterous enough, at least, not to drop her own glass, no matter how Strix reacts. A swallow of her sweet wine, first, and then she sets the glass down on the bar. Her ceramic fingers clink gently against the glass. "Is Lucky your name or is it a statement?" Elementals are extremely literal, Gisa isn't being a shit, apparently, but really asking him. "I am Gisa Cohen. This is Strix Nebulosa. That is Kyle O'Dare, and that is Sorcha." See? She takes another swallow of her wine, leaning back on her stool a little, and turns her head slowly, left to right, listening and watching. A small nod to Sorcha's response is all. "I'm saying you are my best friend. That there is another term for 'best friend who is female,' even if your best friend overall is male. It is a very specific term. I respect it. It is like whether or not keys can be handed out a window on Shabbat."

Strix might come across as the twitchy sort but he's quite fine tuned and dexterous enough in his own right to weather the toast from the golem. "Lucky and I already spoke at length about that..." The owl offers in an amused aside as he remains otherwise quite silent in his perch on the barstool. "Curious, I never really understood how best friends work." Strix intones in an idle aside as he continues to seem from his tiny cup with a dainty seeming.

Lucky blinks at Gisa. "There's... rules on handing out keys through a window? Man. How do you even keep track of all that? And yeah," he answers. "Lucky's the actual name. Nice to meet you, Miss Cohen. Or, at least, formally." Last time was a bit more brief. Kyle may have shushed Sorcha, but he didn't shush anyone else, so Lucky steps up to bat. "Never?" And then to Sorcha, "You poor thing." Though he flashes the guy a wink. All in good fun, this teasing. Though as Misty scoots closer, he says, "A little work won't kill you. And yeah, this place is... surprisngly nice, for a carnival theme," he agrees. "None of the shadier types are here, that I can see. Except me, maybe." And then, back to Joel, "Can I get, uh...." He takes a quick inventory of what people are drinking, then looks at the pile of cash again. "Yeah, I've got enough for another round. And one for you, too, man," he tells the guy. "One beer on the job won't hurt you. Might as well be a part of the gang, too, even if you -are- on the other side of the lonely bar."

"Mhmn," Joel says to Lucky in answer to his question, a flicker of amusement in his expression, or at least on his lips. Turning toward Sorcha, he nods his head and says, "Definitely drop by. I'd be interested to hear all about it." He takes Kyle's empty glass and within moments a new one is sitting in front of him, another of the same. Gisa gets a dip of his head, and Strix as well. "Not quite that easy," Joel says to Misty. "Though points for the compliment." And that's about when his relief turns up. The other bartender is a little older looking than Joel and is dressed up a little more than he is, in a flashy gold vest over her black blouse with her hair done up in a rainbow of colors twisted up in a bun. She smacks his ass on the way by and says, "Git. My turn." That seems to pass for a shift-change, just in time for Lucky to offer a drink. "Lonely? Couldn't ever be lonely with Stella here," he says, slinging an arm around Stella's shoulders. She smirks at him and shoves him off "Go. Have friends. Do something other than work." She seems to be having none of it, and so, chuckling, Joel lets her take care of the drink orders and he makes his way out from behind the bar.

The only response Sorcha gives to Kyle, and his shushing, is a flutter of her lashes. She's not saying a thing. "My suffering knows no bounds," she bemoans to Lucky, looking truly in pain for this situation. She takes smaller gulps than Kyle does, but it doesn't take her much longer than him to finish it off, and order her own second. Is the petite redhead going to try and keep pace with the cat? It seems that she just might. "Reid," she offers for her own last name. Which might ring a tiny bell for those fond of folk-inspired music, that may have heard of her before she's had to make a name for herself here. A nod to Joel, a warm smile. "Soon," she promises him, before leaning back against the bar, watching the shift change with amusement.

"Not exactly, but yes," Gisa answers Lucky, explaining, "Most of us do not even bother, but the Talmud and the commentaries cover almost every thing you could think of. We are a people that ask many questions and want to know all the loopholes. That is why I read agreements for others, to see if they are good. My mind is made by a people who wanted to know if a man was at fault for passing something through a window on Shabbat if someone threw it out a window at him." Go look it up, there is actual for real commentary on whether or not you can hand things out through a window on Shabbat. For realsies. She takes another swallow of her wine, and turns her head toward Strix, looking at him thoughtfully for a moment. "If it is too loud, I will meet you at the bookstore later."

"I put together a book for when I started getting to know Gisa called Jewish Friends for Dummies. This new handing things out of the window thing is so going in there now." This Kyle confesses in an aside to Sorcha. "It's kind of a habit now. I just put together instruction manuals for things that I run into and need to learn." He gives Joel a thanks as he gets his new drink and down about half of it in a gulp. Then suddenly declares, "It is time to water the bushes!" Then he begins to pick his way toward the bathroom so as to go and use that.

Strix nods to Gisa as he finishes his coffee, not being a drinker he hasn't got much of a reason to hang around the bar. "Nice meeting all of you." The persnickety birdish fellow hops off his stool and leaves a few bucks on the bar as a tip near his empty cup, saying to Gisa, "I'll be around in a few hours perhaps.." He chirps to Joel, "Thanks for the coffee." On his way to the exit just behind Kyle.

John leaves Club Carnivale.

"At least *this* kind of work won't," Misty agrees, leaving open the specter of more dangerous professions lurking in the shadows. "And you don't look all that shady." He pauses, and adds, lightheartedly, "No offense, if you're like, going for that look or something." Still, she seems open to whatever Joel has in mind, nodding along with both when the sentence seems to be earning her keep. Also, she has zero commentary on Quirky Religious Laws (tm), other than to look half amused, half perplexed by all of it. Imagine 'lol, no way' in face form.

"Oh? I look forward to proof reading Sorchas for Dummies, when you get your first draft done," the fox teases towards Kyle, amusmeent shining in her eyes. He gets up to water the bushes, and her fingertips draw down his arm, not quite a clingy gesture, but one that takes a touch where she can. "I'll have to look at the Jewish Friends one, though." Whiskey sour in hand, leaning against the bar, her gaze flicks over the people, the bar, everything. Foxes.

This is not the first time that Gisa has gotten That Look about some random example of how in-depth Talmudic observations get. It probably isn't the five thousandth, in the last ninety years walking the world. "It doesn't start out there. It starts out with a very general rule, and then over several pages and many years of discussion, in some cases centuries, we come to 'handing something out a window' and then 'throwing something out a window.'" Gisa rolls her shoulders, which rise and fall like a mountain range. The mention of Jewish Friends for Dummies actually brings a little smile to the earth-made Dawn's face. Apparently Kyles exist to make Gisas actually emote. Fact. Strix's exit gets him a nod of understanding, a small wave. "Very good, take care." She settles, to drink her wine, then.

"Sooo... what -is- the rule?" The others might not care as much, but Lucky certainly is. "Like, where did they end up falling on that line? Verboten or kosh--- uh, cool?" Because the colloquial usage of 'kosher' is probably inappropriate there. As Kyle gets up to drain the lizard, Lucky looks over to Sorcha with a grin. "He seems fun." Though he does scoot over a little bit as Joel joins them, grinning at the now off-duty bartender. "So you -can- cross over to the other side. I always knew that was just a myth." And then back to Misty, "And nah, not going for that look. It's just like.... something acquired, I guess? Grew up around carnivals. There's a certain mindset that comes with it. Always getting ready to be run off by the angry villagers, or whatever. We're basically the new gypsies."

Joel comes wandering around to where everyone is sitting. When Lucky scoots over, he takes up a seat on the opposite side of him from Misty, at the end of the row of those gathered. He accepts the drink that is passed over to him, a Blue Moon, nothing particularly fancy, in a frosty glass. He too seems curious as to what the rule might be, glancing over at Gisa to see if she might explain. He waves to those departing, wishing them well as they head out, and then turns his attention to those who remain at the bar. "Soon," he echoes Sorcha, with a dip of his head.

"Ah, I gotcha," Misty answers Lucky, giving an understanding nod in the more supportive meaning of the word, than likely comprehension of the rigors of 'carny life.' Especially as she admits, "I grew up pretty normal. I only really knew this area because my dad's family still lived up here, and so we'd come up summers to hang out on the lake." Which sounds... suspiciously rich WASP-y. So kind of the opposite of a carny, or a girl looking for a job cabaret dancing to make ends meet. Such is fickle fate. And then like everyone else, she focuses on Gisa. Because obviously, we gotta know how the law came down on this!

"The answer, as with everything, is 'it depends.' It depends on whether you are Ashkenazi or Sephardic, whether you are Bete Israel or MENA." She pronounces that 'mee-nah,' that acronym. "It depends if you are American Reform or UK Reform, or Conservative, or Conservadox, Modern Orthodox, Orthodox... you get the idea. The answer is, 'it depends.'" Gisa swirls her wine in her glass, and starts to warm up to her subject, apparently. "However, if you are looking at the common American Orthodox interpretation, if you were to go by Chabad's writings: under that interpretation, an observant Jew may not transfer, or carry, or bring, or hand, objects between a reshut ha-yachid, that is, someplace that is private, and enclosed, like a house or a school, and a reshut ha-rabim, that is, public domain, like a street or a public park. And so, from that point on, people started to ask questions: what if it is in my pocket? What if someone hands me a cake out the window? How about a baby carriage? Does that count? What if I have food in my mouth that I haven't swallowed yet?" Beat. "The answer to those questions in modern American Orthodox law is: still counts, still counts, still counts, yes, and still counts."

"So you can't leave your house... with your keys or your wallet. Man," Lucky says. "Saturdays must be rough. Then again, I guess it's a good way to get out of weekend overtime, if you work that kind of job. Sit around the house and be all lazy? I'm down. Though... baby carriage? Man. You guys really do throw everything at the wall, huh?" Though he takes the time to answer Misty as well. "Cabin by the lake, huh? Definitely need one of those in my life. Wonder if anyone would put one up in a poker match?" And then, over to Joel, "Nice place you got here, man. And I'm kind of digging the clientele." A nod to the golem. "Fun -and- educational!"

"I didn't grow up around it either, really. This was my uncle's place. He ended up turning it over to me when he retired to Vegas where he's got himself another place where it's hot all the time instead of snowy and wet," Joel says. "But I like it. It suits me." He then nods to Lucky and says, "Thanks. I'm kind of fond of it, and I've found it definitely helps as far as meeting interesting people goes." Then he turns his attention back toward Gisa, listening to the explanation and says, "Interesting," as he mulls over that information, squirreling it away to be thought about more at a later time.

Misty's reaction to all of this lengthy theological-legal exposition is to declare: "Yeah, my parents were the sorts who just went to Church on Sundays to show off their good clothes and network." Evidently she was cyncial even as a pre-durance jerkass teenager. But who wasn't? "So uh... I never got much of that stuff." Nevermind the gentile part. But what does she know! She does, however, seize on Lucky's observation. "Yeah, that sounds super rough. I'd just sleep in. Like, if it's going to be such a big hassle and all of that, and I'm gonna get in trouble leaving the house, I may as well just eat breakfast in bed and watch cartoons." (And yes, this only goes to reinforce how oblivious she is to things Jewish! Watch TV, hah!) And of course, Lucky is corrected: "Uh, less cabin, more... mansion. But there was a boathouse too, I guess." Uhuh. "Does kind of fit our... extravagant kind. Probably any one of us would be good at putting on one sorta act or another."

"Well, shomer shabbos do not exchange money or drive on Shabbat, either, so why would you need your wallet or keys?" Gisa rolls her shoulders at that, a geologic movement. "Well... Lucky... it is a day of rest. Rest is kind of the point." She finishes her wine, slides her glass across the counter for another. "A cabin in the woods sounds very nice. Or by a lake. Swimming in lakes can be very nice." A small curve upwards of her mouth and she tips her chin up toward Misty. "No electronics, if you are shomer shabbos. I ... " she pauses for dramatic effect, or at least what the golem might think is dramatic effect, "... spend time with people. In a place where there are more of us, it's no fuss. When I was in Israel I walked to services in the morning, and then there was breakfast, which you paid for on Friday afternoon." Where there's a Jewish rule, there's a Jewish loophole. Trust.

Lucky can't help but grin at that. "See? Now that's my kind of story," he tells the others. "Figure out a way to make the rules work in your favor. Even if you have to maybe cheat a little." He gives Gisa a bright grin. "I'm already glad I met you. For real, this time." To Misty, he says, "Man, I've never understood mansions. So many rooms. So much -cleaning-. Like, sure, you have a staff that does it for you and whatever, but what a waste of effort. Get an apartment. Maybe, like, a small house. Unless you've got your very own tribe, why bother with something bigger?" And then to Joel, "So you got your very own bar when your uncle decided to move to Vegas? Nice, man. Good for you!"

"Okay but, can you leave the house in your clothes for services if you can't bring anything out? Or do you have to slip out naked, get dressed in clothes you left outside, and then go to services?" Joel asks in a contemplative tone, as though he were figuring out some way in his mind that one could come up with a place that was not private and not public to change so as not to carry clothes from a private to public space, and ends up giving himself a headache. He takes a long drink from his beer then, before looking over toward Misty and says, "I think I'd prefer a cabin -- more cozy, less, uh.. being afraid to touch the furniture." Stella swoops in to grab Gisa's glass and bring her a refill, all with a quick glance to Joel who indicates what she was having so that she can bring her another without having to interrupt the conversation. "Yeah, I worked here for him before that. He still technically owns a portion of it, but for the most part, yeah, it's mine." He nods in a general upward direction and says, "Work, home, entertainment.. all in one."

Misty makes a sad face when her saturday morning cartoons idea is predictably shot down. "I guess that's nice, though, having a little encouragement to hang around with other people and keep yourself from boredom that way. Though it'd suck if you couldn't lock your house and you got robbed or something." From mansions to her now dubious life, where petty crime is a more omnipresent concern. Then, for both Joel and Lucky, she has a shrug. "Well, you don't have to worry about it now, and neither do I, 'cause I can't go there anymore anyway, without that bitch catching wind of it." Her tone tinges a little bitter at this, though largely directed at the invocation of her nemesis, than at them. But maybe a *little* at them, for so casually writing off something she's lost. "I do miss being able to see my family, though. Most of the stuff, the houses and all that, are my aunt's. But she doesn't know what happened, thinks I married some nice rich guy and everything, neat and tidy."

"So go take the rich guy," Lucky tells her in turn. "Reclaim your, you know, birthright or whatever. Unless that would be more complicated. Which could be a problem. We can work it out." He gives her a smile, leaving money on the table for the drinks. There's even enough for a tip, even if it doesn't quite come out to what it should with the math. "Nice meeting you, man. I'll be sure to hit you up later if this whole 'illegitimate sources of income' thing doesn't pan out."

Joel dips his head to Lucky as the man moves to head out and says, "Or even if it does." He then looks over toward Misty and says, "So, come show me your act? It seems the crowd is thining out and the night is dwinding down." He finishes off his beer and then steps away from the bar, nodding toward the theatre.

"Why would I want him? I never met the dude. Plus there's, you know, a..." And here Misty has to look around, and then lower her voice, because while talking 'stolen IDs' is one thing: "She looks old enough to be, like, my mom now. Wouldn't exactly work out." Nothing is ever easy! Still, since Lucky seems on his way out, she gives a smile. "Maybe you'll catch me here next time, while you guys work out your shady business." Because it seems she's thinking exactly what Joel is, with the crowd thinning and him off the clock. She hops off her stool and hauls the bag. "Sure, I'll go find a bathroom and change. Though I don't, uh... Like, the places I've worked before, I was really just a dancer, so the big theatrics, I don't have much experience. But I figure I can learn?"
