The Broadcast

"Good afternoon, Fort Brunsett... this is Her Royal Majesty Amanda Green, bringing to you New Music Friday on behalf of WFBR, Fort Brunsett Radio." The voice coming over the airwaves is decidedly and delightfully English. This might as well be a BBC1 broadcast. "As always, I am on the airwaves to deliver to you the freshest music. Also, as always, you can call in to the station here, to request some new music I might not know about, or just to chat!" There's a pause, then the voice continues. "Let's get started... This is something I'm rather excited about. Off his upcoming eleventh studio album, titled Dark Matter, here's Randy Newman with Sonny Boy." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RR8BBJz416Q

"Dark Matter is due August 4th," Green says, as she returns to the airwaves. "And I'll not claim to be a big Randy Newman fan, but... It's a nice song for a Friday," Green says, her smile so clearly heard in her words. "Let's keep things moving... with something that's not new at all. Yet, is?" Green asks, before giving a soft laugh. "Twenty years ago, a band called White Stripes made their live debut at an open mic night in Detroit on Bastille Day. To celebrate that anniversary, Third Man Records - that's Jack White's label out of Detroit - has released the recording of that fateful first performance. Previously released in various other formats, this is the first time it's been widely available. And, as such, I give to you... The White Stripe's cover of a song originally played by The Searchers in 1963... Here's Love Potion Number Nine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqSvK54-LkQ

"I love that track. Always have. But could you imagine that...?" Green asks, as she's on the airwaves once more. "Suddenly kissing everyone in sight?" There's a laugh. "I can." Green lets those two words hang in the airwaves for a few long moments, then she continues. "Let's keep on moving... Arcade Fire has put out a new album, Everything Now. After a series of nonsense leading up to it's release - including fake websites full of fake news about the band - I'm happy to see the album out. This is the titular track from that album. Here's Everything Now." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zC30BYR3CUk

"Oh, Arcade Fire..." Green follows up with a wistful sigh. "Hello, Fort Brunsett. This is Amanda Green broadcasting from the WFBR studio, bringing to you New Music Friday. Have a request? Have something to say? Call in," says Green. "Another album has dropped today... Joywave's Content. It's Joywave. We love him dearly, do we not?" Green asks. A pause, then she continues. "And off that album, I'd like to detect a song to a certain nerdy book peddler. This is Little Lies You're Told." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_Y47QWPENE

"Once again that was Little Lies You're Told by Joywave. Now... before I move on to our next track. I have a special guest in the studio today. Miss Franklyn Garreau is the director at The Green Door theater, a Vermont native, and an absolute delight... Franky, love, would you like to say a few words...?"

<Guest> Franklyn : "Thanks for that intro yer Majesty, I'm feeling totally hashtag blessed to be here, for sure." Franklyn laughs after she speaks, but it's short lived. "Hello darlings -- wasn't that a great song? Now, I'm kinda a fan of a well placed lie -- what kind of society would we be, if everyone said /exactly/ what was on their mind /all the time/? An =excessively violent= one, I think! So here's my advice; stay safe, people - loose lips sink ships. But in the case of an emergency? If you don't got nothing nice to say about someone?... You can come around for tea. I promise I won't tell."

"Oh, blimey!" Green says, as she comes back over on the air. "You'll get Number Six all bothered with that kind of talk, Franklyn, love," Green says, her smile heard once more. "That was Franklyn Garreau, who has proven herself capable of speaking on the air without swearing. Do please go down to The Green Door and see a show. Or just see her..." There's a pause. "Here's a song called Cameo by a group called Childhood." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYLeNUCWVfg

"Speak of the Six and he doth appear," comes the lovely English-accented voice of Amanda Green. "Or call in, in this case. Number Six wants us all to know that it is lies to blame for our current situation. And though we might not see it here, in lovely Vermont, those lies are making things awful elsewhere..." Green pauses. "Cannot say I object, Number Six. Let's hope the man himself can make some progress in making society better. Not sure if you all caught it, but his opinion piece was published in the Tamarack Times just yesterday," Green says.

"Now then... I'll ask you all to rank for me where on the lie spectrum this next one falls. This is Boys by Charli XCX." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPRy1B4t5YA

"That was Charli XCX in Boys. If you've not watched the video, do yourself a favor and... watch that video. After my show," Green says, her voice light and playful. "This is Her Royal Majesty Amanda Green broadcasting New Music Friday from the WFBR studio. Next up, we have a new song by Selena Gomez, featuring Gucci Mane. I'd like to dedicate this song to-... well. That's private. This is Fetish." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R38q_C4NApE (This is the safe for work version of the video!)

The song ends... and silence. It's a good few seconds before the voice is suddenly back. "This is Amanda Green with WFBR Fort Brunsett Radio..." The voice that comes back sounds just a touch breathless. "Bringing to you New Music Friday. Next up we have Skrillex and Poo Bear, giving us... Would You Ever," she says. "I'd suggest all of you out there listening... all of you that have the question in your mind... ask it. Today's the day." https://youtu.be/r-SurvChGFk

"That was Would You Ever by Skrillex and Poo Bear," Green says. "And I have to say, this week... we've had more than a few poppy songs. Happy songs. Fun songs. Loving songs..." There's a pause. "Here's the latest from Purity Ring, titled Asido." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ivaGaT2jq0

"Thank you, Fort Brunsett, for your ears. Thank you, WFBR, for your airwaves. This has been Her Royal Majesty Amanda Green bringing to you New Music Friday," Green says. "And now... before I go... I spoke of love. We've heard about truth. We've listened to music about boys. Let's think about... Rage. I'll dedicate this last one to a man with a megaphone trying to make a difference. This is Prophets of Rage and their latest, Living On The 110." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PzAvPcM7Vw0
