The Broadcast
Set in the normal, generic radio announcer voice... "You are now listening to New Music Friday on WFBR Fort Brunsett Radio with your host Amanda Green... Enjoy your new music, Fort Brunsett!"
The pre-recorded, generic intro stops, and there's a few long moments of dead air. Finally, a voice cuts in, "Oh, bloody... well!... Hello, loves. It would seem the station has decided has recorded an intro!" This all comes over the airwaves in that delightfully English voice. "Wherein they forgot to tack the 'H.R.M.' before that. I wonder if I'm not longer royalty..." A pause, then she continues. "This is Amanda Green, your host, bringing you new music Friday. Let's start off with the low hanging fruit. Easy to pick, still just as sweet... New from Weezer, this is Mexican Fender." Weezer - Mexican Fender
"Another single from Weezer. Another round of criticism and self reflection. What does it mean when Weezer makes another song? How does that affect the soul...?" Green asks, over the airwaves. There's a pause, and then she adds, "The millenial soul, at least." There's a faint laugh, and then she's moving along. "Afraid that will be the most of what I'd call known this week. We depart now... into the unknown. From their debut album, Jenks, This is The Ride by DBFC." DBFC - The Ride
"If anyone had been unaware, the '80s are back in full swing. I'm already seeing the big hair coming back... And I'll not comment on all that. No, I'll just put out a question to you all. What, Fort Brunsett, is your favorite thing to come out of the 80s?" Green asks over the airwaves. "Text the station's number. Call in. Whatever you'd like! Talk to me, Fort Brunsett. And yes, I was born in the '80s..." (If you wish to call/txt in, just do +txt Green=<Your message/phone call>)
"So, then, let's get some synths going..." Green says. "From the band Nite, this is Godless City." Nite - Godless City
"So, the '80s are not exactly unknown... But I'd be willing to bet the most of you all hadn't heard Nite before right then. Safe bet, yeah?" Green asks, as she comes over the airwaves once more. "This is another band that has a fairly small following. The song isn't exactly new, but the band has decided to start releasing to major outlets, such as YouTube and Spotify," Green explains. "And now that I've talked too much... This is the... OoOoohh Baby Gimme Some Mores..." And you'd better believe Miz Amanda Green says that band's name like she means it. "With Beat Up Kidz." The OBGMs - Beat Up Kidz
"Love it. Love it, love it," Green says, as her voice returns to the radio. "But enough about me. Let's talk about you. I've received a few texts... What do we love about the 80s? Well, one of you listeners insists I am royalty. Thank you, love. Then we have one of the most beautiful women in Fort Brunsett, she loves Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal, as well as neon. Clearly, a woman that appreciates her colors," Green says, then pauses. "Jelly shoes. Did anyone miss them? Anyone else happy they're coming back?" Green asks. "Rocking out to the Dead Kennedys and XTC. Always in style..."
"Let's keep moving along... another song that has earned my affection... This is Steven Wilson from his latest album, To The Bone, out today. This is Permanating." Steven Wilson - Permanating
"How about '80s cartoons?" Green asks, once the song ends. "Were they better in those days...?" She lets the question hang in the air for a long moment, then continues, "Let's change speeds... A decidedly modern song, this is all about moving forward, take a chance, risking it..." Green says into the mic. "From Rachel Platten, this is Broken Glass." Rachel Platten - Broken Glass
"It is my opinion that the song you all just heard is... well. Let's say a touch sophomoric, shall we?" Green asks, as her voice returns again. "Is there a problem with that?" she asks further. Silence hangs for a moment, and then comes her talk. "This is Television Romance by Pale Waves." Pale Waves - Television Romance
"I've got another listener who's insisted the previous one was wrong. About the '80s cartoons, that is. She'll argue that the 90s is where it's at," says that lovely voice, with it's lovely English accent. "I'm going to change speeds, again... This song is from last year, but it's just been re-recorded and appropriately rereleased. Now available to the masses," Green says, as she takes another pause. "This is Untitled by Bibi Bourelly." Untitled (In Studio / BOY Pt. 4) (There's a brief intro - link is set to skip that, but you might want to listen!)
"Now, in the Green household, cartoons were not allowed. Television wasn't, either, for that matter, not until young Amanda was a bit less young. And even then... no, never He-Man. But I am to understand it's a touch difficult to watch?" Green asks, as that beautiful voice once again graces the airwaves of the Fort Brunsett region. "Let's hear another sound that isn't new... But a song that very much so is. The latest from Van Morrison is titled Transformation." Van Morrison - Transformation
"I do love when fans text in... Yes, yes, it's true. For all of you that were at Cat-22 this last Friday, yes, that was yours truly up on stage, singing a little something about... getting hot?" Green asks, her tone going a touch playful. "Yours truly being, well, me, of course. Her Royal Majesty Amanda Green, bringing you New Music Friday on behalf of WFBR Fort Brunsett radio. Speaking of lighting fires, this is All On My Mind by Anderson East." Anderson East - All On My Mind
"If that didn't make you feel something, well... There might be no saving you," Green says, her accent playing over the airwaves so crisp, so prim, so proper. "Now, I've had another request come in. No, not for new music. But for an encore. For me, Amanda Green, to take the stage and sing again," says the woman with the microphone. "How about it, Fort Brunsett? Should I sing again? Bare my soul to an audience? A certain someone is, I think, a touch desperate that enough of you will say 'yes'..."
There's a pause, then Green continues. "My favorite song of today... a song about... you. About taking care of you. About knowing what you're worth. About knowing who deserves you. A song about you," Green says. "This is Lizzo, bringing us Water Me." Lizzo - Water Me
"When I started to prepare for this week's show... I had some initial disappointment. So much that sounds alike. So much that wasn't getting me where I needed to go. But, really, this might be one of my favorite broadcasts to date," Green says, as she returns to the air one last time. "I do hope you all enjoyed it as well. That is, after all, my goal... to bring to you all a bit of passion, feeling, curiosity... emotion," Green explains. "Sadly, we're about out of time. So I'll be signing off now... This has been Amanda Green bringing you New Music Friday. Thank you, WFBR. Thank you, Fort Brunsett and the surrounding area... And to play us out, here's a new one by a little band called LCD Soundsystem. This is tonite." LCD Soundsystem - tonite
