Commands & Expectations of Crowned Characters

Great! You have achieved your life long goal of being a King (or Queen). How does that affect your character, and what are you expected to do with it?

Pledge

Fealty pledges require the Monarch to invest the pledges of their vassals in a dot of their own Willpower. This will return at the end of the Season, or you may spend 8xp to purchase it back right away, and regain the 8xp when you lose the Crown.

I pledge my time, my talents and my protection to Fate's Harvest.

I swear that I no longer serve the Fae, nor will I while this promise stands; that while I lead Fate's Harvest I will obey the principles and bylaws of the Fate's Harvest Freehold as ratified by Monarch and Council, in return for the support and safety they provide.

May I perish in exile, should I be forsworn.

Boon: Vassalage (+3); Adroitness x3 (+3)
Task: Fealty (-3)
Sanction: Banishment (-3); Death (-3)
Duration: Season (+3)

Crowning Ceremony

Chances are good that your Crown will appear in the middle of some RP or other. It will not appear magically at a specific event every season.

Your first formal act as Monarch is to hold a crowning ceremony, to show yourself and to renew the pledge which keeps the Freehold together.

Staff will help you with this, and will set up the +event after consulting with you on a good date, since chances are good there will be NPCs involved.

Changes to your Sheet

  • Your 'Influence (Fate's Harvest)' merit will now be 5 dots.
  • You lose one Willpower dot to initiate the Fealty pledge. You may buy this back with 8xp.

Expectations

  • Activity. You are now the go-to social and political leader of the entire Freehold. If you are active, and creative, the entire game will be a better place.
Staff would like the game to be a better place.
See the Influence page for a detailed list of requirements. Unlike other roles, the Crown may not be demoted, as they are a leader chosen by the Wyrd, not their peers. See the Fate's Harvest/Laws page for the failsafes built into the system.
  • Meetings. Technically a part of activity, but it deserves its own section. By Freehold law, Crown and Extended Council must hold an open gathering each month.
It is your responsibility to set up the +event and to give players in the Freehold at least a week's warning before the meeting.
  • Delegation. You are now a powerhouse of RP potential.
Staff expects, and gleefully encourages, you to use this new power to further both your own interests and the interests of your Court's politics.
Staff will be working closely with you to facilitate sphere-wide plots and politics, so never be afraid to ask if an idea for something fun occurs to you. The worst staff can say is, "No."
  • Don't hoard your power. Make requests of your new "subjects" -- what do you see as most important, this season?
Should the Freehold focus on acquiring mortal-world real estate?
Should the Freehold focus on studying the strange occurrences in the Hedge around the Freehold's territory?
Should the Freehold prepare itself for war against a Keeper the Black Apples couldn't keep away?
(Etc. etc., things along this line.)

Command List

  • You are now the head of the Fate's Harvest +faction.
See +help factions2 for the list of commands

Former Crowns

At the end of your Court's period in the yearly cycle, what happens? How do you handle the transfer of power?

Typically, the former Monarch will spend the first week or two of the new season helping the new Crown get up to speed. In the case of Crowns who were already on the Council before being chosen, it likely won't take long; they will already know most of what they need.

  • You gain back your Willpower dot (or regain 8xp, if you had already bought it back).
(Send up a +req/fae to staff if for some reason staff hasn't already fixed it for you via query.)
  • You are removed from +faction head status on Fate's Harvest.
  • Your Influence (Fate's Harvest) dots are lowered to 4 (if you choose to be the new Councillor for your Court) or 3 (if you abstain from that role).
