Overview

      First he was famous for good things, as an astronomer, author, and astronaut with multiple missions under his belt, including a sojourn on the ISS. Then he was famous for an apparent psychotic breakdown, and subsequently something of an unwilling poster child for how mental illness can strike even the best and brightest.       

RP Hooks: Mundane

• Fame: Astronaut - The glory days of the Space Race may be behind us, but those who've made it into orbit are still celebrities in their own right.
• Writer - His first couple books were accounts of his experiences in orbit. The later ones, post-"breakdown", were SF novels, mostly well-received.
• Breakdown - A few years back, he apparently vanished into the night while on overnight watch for a commercial satellite observatory. Lucky for him, nothing serious happened to the sat before morning shift came in...but it still cost him his job there. He was missing for about ten days, and returned apparently raving about abduction and transformation in another realm entirely. A stay in a mental hospital ensued, and he spent several months there before being deemed safe enough to return to normal society.

RP Hooks: Supernatural

• Freehold of Boston - He was more or less rescued from a mental ward by a Bishop psychiatrist, and was subsequently part of the Freehold in Boston and Cambridge.
• Something Special - They can be things which make your character unique.
