No one else believed her in that she was taken somewhere and someplace she couldn't explain, and that her brother was not her brother. Years later, on the steps of the decrepit shell that once was their family's home, Aaron (the real one), returned to look upon his childhood home. He felt a presence lingering there. Upon learning the abilities to see the dead through Contracts of Shade, he was able to see the ghost that haunted their home. Upon taking up the oath and joining the ranks of the Speakers, he and his sister were reunited. Both vowing to never leave the other again.

A Teller of Twisted Tales (Description)

Very few "characters" have ever met the Twisted Author face to face. What little pieces make up the dreams and nightmares of those Lost stronger in the Wyrd than others all agree that they have seen a single eye, like something out of Tolkein, but inside a gaping maw of jagged and broken teeth. Is it blinking those flaps of skin above and below the eye, or it is a mouth that hungers--no one can really say. It has a thousand hands...or a few claws. Or are they tentacles grouped together to look like hands? As it rarely makes an appearance to those its taken, no one can really truly define the magnitute of this Keeper.
But...

Twisted Thrice-Told Tales...(Methodology)

The tale of the self turns on itself.

It's hard to understand this at first. You have your own identity. Your own memories. Your own life.
But was it yours to begin with? Perhaps you were meant the life of a prince, a pauper, a poet.

So you test these roles out...

Or is something testing the roles out on you?
You play out these fairy tale stories.
You fight some orcs
Or pillage some villages
Or hold court in your kingdom
And then the ending comes to the story.
But it is never an ending that makes sense.
It's never an ending that feels right.
Nothing about any of this feels right.

But you no longer have a choice.
You never did.
You are a character.
You are (perhaps always have been) a tool in something else's tale.
Think Neverending Story meets In The Mouth of Madness.
Things start off calm enough (maybe)
...but the stories you're a part of taking subtle shifts
dark turns

You're always left wondering

why is this happening to me?
Why are you made to play these roles out?
Do they have a meaning to you?

Is this the you that you've always been?

Eventually, you lose the identity you thought you had.
Eventually, you give into become multiple things you are not (possibly) you
Eventually taking on archetypes of long ago tales...
With the kind of twist that would make M. Night Shyamalan cringe.

But when will there be an ending to the tales?
When will there be a final battle?
When will there be a final ever after?
When will there be a concrete the end
When will you finally know who you are?

Even after all the characters you've become
Even after all the roles you've played
Even after all the supporting cast you've fought, loved, killed, and conspired with

What does that mean for who you are?

In the end--
Was this all to discover the real you?

You knew who you were once. But that was a different tale a long time ago.

Who Am I? (Suggested Themes for Escapees)

  • Archetypes twisted and made anew - The Twisted Author is a thing that tells stories with you as the characters. Over time, you forget that you were once an individual, eventually turning into an embodiment of an archetype that gets used over and over and over again. The Haunted Lover. The Twisted Prince. The Melancholy Magician. These archetypes feel more like the you who you should have been...maybe.
