"Sam came home almost a year ago. Girl appeared on Floyd's doorstep, in tears and tatters.

"No one talks much about her. Lefevres don't talk much, but they don't talk especially much when it comes to her. Some say she was a mistake, but you'd never catch Floyd saying that. Truth is, Floyd was easy on her when she was a kid, like with Janey. She could make him smile.

"Didn't really fit the mold of the small town girl. Always wanted to go to the city. So she did, one day, and never looked back. Said she went looking to find herself, to become an actress, and to some day be on the big stage on Broadway.

"Great dreams. But it ain't for small town folk like Lefevres.

"No one's quite sure what happened in Burlington, but she ain't been the same. Doesn't talk much, tends to keep to herself. Some say she went soft in the head, thinks she's a boy now or something. I don't know what them city-folk did to her, but that ain't the girl that left."
