Gentry/The Greenskeeper
Savagery and Civilization
The Greenskeeper is uniquely obsessed with the boundaries between civilization as exemplified by humanity - particularly city-dwelling humans, and animals though the latter are more often than not humans who have undergone animalistic mutations or full-blown hobs that may have once been human themselves. Within an underground compound surrounded by labyrinthine tunnels of concrete and metal, this often indirect Keeper communicates through monitors and speakers in a garbled electronic voice.
Within their realm of the Grand Preserve, two major sorts of people exist. Subjects, and staff. Subjects are routinely presented with a choice. Either consume the flesh of the living and stay free, or become slaves to fear by partaking of the plants nearby. Those who engage in the first, often those who are unaware that the hobs they slay are sentient, become more like predatory animals. Those who stay the course towards vegetarianism become more like prey animals, while those who attempt to take a third option and refuse the decision entirely often cleave more towards inanimate features or at the very least plantlife.
Staff on the other hand, are put through rigorous and often arbitrary tests in order to "Understand" where they fit into a bizarre hierarchy not unlike a caste system. Observers are tasked with taking painstakingly precise notes, often to be thrown away at the next moment as the Greenskeeper's mercurial suggestions shift. Likewise, punishment is no stranger to them as they are berated and perhaps even tortured for collecting "Useless" data.
Guards are subject to experimental treatments and surgeries, some of them more akin to vivisection and haphazard restoration, or ingesting strange potions and mixtures to bring out more desirable features. Even cybernetics and full-body replacements find their way into here, so long as the Greenskeeper wishes it or finds the "Upgrade" useful.
Finally, the Adjuncts are tasked with menial tasks of equal precision to the Observers. A single mote of dust, bolt, or screw out of place is grounds for similar punishment be it, "Ineptitude" or some similar accusation of incompetence. Likewise, twisting of form in a similar manner to guards can follow if the breach is perceived to be horrific enough.
Obviously, these roles correspond somewhat to the six seemings. Beasts born of those who chose predator or prey status, elementals and even the odd nature-oriented fairest from those who choose to abstain. Likewise, Observers are often Darklings, Guards are often Ogres, and Adjuncts are often Wizened. This is not a perfect correlation, as much variance does exist. Faerie is above all, chaotic.
