There's a few people still in the Crossroads Cafe this evening. Mostly people that haven't hit the road for the holiday weekend or to visit family. Signe is one of those people. The silver haired woman is sitting near the dessert case with an empty dinner plate and looking like she's pondering what sweet to get. And under her table there is a rather large hellhound asleep with service dog vest on. Because it's not legal to bring hellhounds in otherwise. Candice slips inside the store this evening, pausing to collect a pack of crayons and paper-- just because they're meant for kids doesn't mean she can't have it too, right? Humming as she looks in the box, she heads towards the counter-- but she pauses, rather abruptly, near Signe's table. Those clear blue eyes look down towards the giant hellhound beneath it. She doesn't look...scared, precisely. Simply intent. "Goodness." Only then does she look up towards Signe, curious. If she's caught looking, there's a soft smile in store for Signe!
Candice doesn't make any moves to go and pet the dog-- though once Signe mentions he's not bitey, her whole face brightens, and she looks extremely tempted. "He looks so healthy and big!" She declares, a small, affectionate smile on her lips. And then she blinks, looking up towards Signe. "Oh! Hello. I'm sure you're healthy too." She hastens to add, "I'm Candice. Candice Ellison." "He's doing better than a few months ago. His owner died so it's been a bit crazy trying to get him settled at my place." Signe tells her with a smile. "And yeah, he's healthy." she chuckles to that. "And I'm healthier, yep." she muses. Then she gives a smile, "Nice to meet you, Candice, I'm Signe Desrochers." she greets her. "They've got good food here. Dessert is good as well." she offers. "Oh, the poor thing." Candice says, crouching down near the dog. As she's wearing a modest skirt in peach with bright reddish-pink flowers, and a pink shirt, the skirt pools, hem to the ground. . "I suppose it's a good thing he's found you, then." Despite crouching down, the slight figure doesn't reach for the dog yet-- instead, when Signe mentions her name, Candice looks up, clapping her hands together, "OH! Like the bar? I do like going to that bar! The local beers are preservative-free, so I can drink them." A wry smile from the pale flower, "I'm sensitive to some chemicals, so I try to stay somewhat organic as well as I can." "Yeah, he was my cousins. I got put in charge of him." Signe tells Candice. Alocer's eyes squint a moment at her. But he doesn't seem offended. "We've been working on living together, yes." she laughs. "Did you want to sit? I'm just getting ready to order pie or something." she offers. Then there's a grin, "Yeah, I'm a Desrocher. I tend the bar when I'm not working other jobs." she tells her. "Oh. Well if you like those you'll have to come to the tasting event we're doing in a few weeks." she states. "Oh. I'm sorry for your loss." Candice says, as is dutiful and polite to say. Another slightly yearning glance to the fluffy hellhound, before she rises and nods, "I came here for food and something to drink, yes. I'll be happy to join you." She says brightly, before blinking, "A tasting event? Like a wine tasting, but for beer?" "Thank you. She died doing what she loved though." Signe states. She died fighting Audrey 2 apparently! "You can pet him. He just looks all grumpy." Signe tells her as she watches them. Then she grins, "Not as classy as a wine tasting, but yep! Just like that." she nods to that. "It's probably best if I don't." Candice says, a bit sadly. "Sometimes animals get a bit uncomfortable with me. I'd hate for him to scratch or cut me accidentally and get hurt." Him hurt? Her hurt? Ahh, the vagueness. "Besides, I think I'm supposed to have clean hands when eating. I'll just order myself something while you get dessert, Signe." And then she heads to the counter, ordering...and when she returns, it's carefully hugging a rather large pitcher of water. After all, it's heavy, and those skinny arms of hers don't seem particularly strong. Once she sets it down, she unwraps two straws...jury-rigging them into one straw, and then drinking water straight from the pitcher. "Does your...are you a poisonous flower?" Signe asks as she leans in a bit, just so she can speak quietly. "It's totally understandable." she adds. It would be weird if she couldn't see Candice and she had a hedge beast under a table. "I'll probably get it to go. Are you new to town?" she asks her. Candice colors-- but instead of a normal, all-around reddening, faint purple-pink splotches form on her cheeks and nose. She coughs, half-choking on her sip of water, and of course solves this by taking another sip of water, before looking with some discomfort towards Signe, "Not on purpose." She says, a bit helplessly. "I only-- my blood can be irritating, that's all. I'm really not-- not very dangerous." "I don't think any of us come back from that place being things they wanted to be." Signe tells her with a softer look. "But, that is a discussion for another time and not in public." she admits. Then the girl orders a piece of pie and a donut for the dog. Because donuts solve all the problems! |
