Waykeepering With Allen

"I'd like to join!"

Participants

Allen, Maxwell Moreau and Maggie Locklear

2016.08.06

Allen comes to the Wayhouse to talk on joining the Freehold. A few Waykeepers talk to him.

Location

Wayhouse

It's looking to be a quiet afternoon at the Wayhouse. But there's the smell of something wonderful off in the kitchen. Someone is making chili. "I'm not putting ghost peppers in this." the sound of a womans voice can be heard before she pops her head out to look at the man sitting on a chair just outside the kitchen. "Wouldn't that be a bit of a dick move?" she asks the Wizened that's sitting there.

The door to the mud room opens and a giant of a man enters, laden with a shoulder bag and a camper's backpack; the giant, bag, and backpack have all seen better days. He looks around, apparently expecting to see a specific someone. He sighs, then breathes in deeply through the nose. A smile slowly crosses his face, but he continues to look around until he focuses on a dapper-looking changeling and the woman he's talking to. He raises a free hand in a sort-of wave that looks more like an apology. "Hello? Is... Is Gisa here?"

Maxwell gives a bit of a chuckle, "It was just a suggestion, Maggie. But yes, as you say it is a 'dick move'." the older man muses. There's a look given to Allen when he comes in and there's a wave as he stands, "Gisa isn't here at the moment, is there something we might be able to do for you?" he asks.

Maggie in turn gives a smile to Maxwell, "Figured, but just checking. You tend to be so serious." she chuckles. When Allen comes in there's a smile from her and a little wave, but she lets Maxwell due to talking for the moment, "I've not seen a Gisa." she shakes her head. "Are you in need of a Waykeeper?" she asks him. She's either a Seeminglesss Changeling or a Mortal...or really good at hiding her Mien.

Allen finds his attention divided between the dapper Wizened and the woman as they both acknowledge him. He stoops a bit more, trying (and failing) to shrink from view.

"I... Um... Well," he stammers, before clearing his throat and starting again. "Gisa was here before and wanted to introduce me to a Waykeeper, yeah," he finishes, nodding at the woman. "Logan, I think she said." He pauses again, looking at the man. "Are... Are you Logan?"

Maxwell gives a smile and a shake of his head, "No, I'm not Logan. Logan is one of our recruits though. I'm Maxwell Moreau, I'm a Waykeeper and mentor for our recruits." he states. "Maggie is also a recruit." he nods to the Native American woman. "I'm sure we can help you out." he adds.

Maggie gives a smile when she hears that Waykeepers are indeed needed, "We can help." she nods to that vigorously. "Or well, I can try and Maxwell can tell me I'm too eager again." she chuckles. "I'm Maggie Locklear." she offers. "Hopefully my recruitment time is almost up." she adds as she gives a look to Maxwell.

The gargoyle, er, VERY LARGE MAN nods at both and seems to relax a bit.

A bit.

"Um, okay," he continues, "So, yeah, hi, I'm Allen Wright and...." He trails off, almost as though he has remembered something while he was talking about something else."

"Wait, um, how... okay." Allen's pained expression seems to indicate his frustration at starting three sentences but not actually finishing any. "I'm looking to stay here for awhile and think it's a good idea to join the Freehold. It's just... How formal should I be when I do that?"

"It's nice to meet you, Allen." Maggie states with a smile. She notices the pained expression and there's a quirk of an eyebrow, "Everything okay?" she asks him. Then she quiets to listen to him. A soft nod given as he finishes, "You don't have to be super formal. Joining the Freehold is a bit easier than people realize, but it's a scary premise when newcomers come in and we start throwing stuff at them." she admits. "Generally what will happen is you'll meet with a Waykeeper, express your intent with them to join and we'll get you set up with meeting the Queen and swearing in. If you agree with the Freehold laws and all of that." she explains.

Maxwell was getting ready to answer things, but Maggie was on the ball, this allows him to sit back and watch the woman at work. When she's done, he does speak up, "If you'd like to stay here you can, we'll get you set up with a room and things." he tells him with a nod.

Allen seems to get it, though he fidgets with his shoulder bag a bit when Maxwell mentions a room. "Great, okay," he answers, nodding and looking back and forth between Maggie and the Wizened. "So... great. I... I, um...."

He clears his throat. Clearly, public speaking, even if it's only in front of two people, is NOT his strong suit. "I'd like to join the Freehold. If you'll have me," he adds quickly.

Maggie leans against the door to the kitchen and gives a smile, "We can get that process started for you." she tells him. "Oh, there's chili for dinner, if you want any. Cornbread to go with it. I'll take your name and get it to November and the rest of the Waykeepers to see who can get together with you and get you sworn in." she tells him.

Maxwell gives a bit of a begrudging smile to the Mortal and nods, "We can get you situated. Shouldn't take long either." he echoes.

"Oh, good, okay, great!" Allen doesn't seem to notice or care that his response either answers every statement he's just heard or none of them. The smell of chili brings him back, though. "Oh, yeah, um, sure, I'd love some chili. And cornbread." He pauses, an embarrassed look on his face, then asks, "Just... it's not too hot, is it?"

Maggie gives a smile, "I'll get your name over to the higher ups. I've got another one to turn in as well, so hopefully they won't take too long contacting you on things." she tells him. Then she shakes her head, "No, it's not really hot. Just a bit of spice. I don't know what everyone can handle to trying not to burn anyones tongue." she chuckles. "I'm going to get going, animals to feed and all." she explains. "Did you guys need anything else?" she asks.

Maxwell gives a nod to Allen, "Things should go rather smoothly." he tells the man as he also goes to get himself some chili.

"No, no, that's fine, I'm fine," the Ogre responds. "I'll... I'll just get something to eat, I guess, and wait for you to get back to me." He removes his shoulder bag and sets it and his backpack down next to the dining room table. "Thanks," he adds with a sheepish, slow-forming smile. "I, uh... yeah."

Maggie gives a smile, "We'll get back to you, probably won't be me in particular, but I hang out here a lot when I'm not at the animal sanctuary." she admits. "You have a good evening, Allen. Enjoy the chili!" the woman states as she grabs her hat and starts to head out.

"Thanks, I will," the Ogre replies with a half-wave to the departing woman. And with that, he enters the kitchen to get a bowl of chili himself.
